The whole situation isnt ideal - and as I said earlier, puts both parties in an awkward situation. The situation isnt helped by the two statements released by the respective parties - each statement seems to blame the other party (depending on how you read the TUFC one that is) lets just say neither of them shed much light on the exact situation.
So what needs to happen? Well, certainly the next step by either party needs to be thought out properly, maybe even the two parties releasing a joint statement, perhaps reassuring everybody about the shirt sponsorship situation, and that a further statement will be made at a later date regarding the current state of play. What CANT and MUSTNT happen is for the information to come out in dribs and drabs as this just makes each party look worse....the problem we currently have is that part of the story has come out and been released to the local media (it is a blessing I suppose that the Herald dont speculate as they could make a lot of assumptions)
It is a case of ALL of us fans having to sit tight, trust in the currrent set-up of the club (a mantra that is often used by many on this site) and hope that when the story eventually comes out (hopefully in the right way) that it gives the full facts of the case, and what is going to happen going forward. One hopes that whatever happens, the youth set up and current good work going on in the background of the club is allowed to thrive and not die away - if it did it would take a very long time to get things going again.

To be fair though Dave, I would guess that you have only heard the story from one persons point of view. Lets not forget there are 2 sides to every story. Yes I do fully agree with your point Jerry and as my birth sign would suggest, I try to take a balanced view. In this case the facts can't be disputed, knowing what they are, I feel I have no problem being able to except every single word I have been told. The person who told me, sure did not want to have to do this and Is shocked about the whole episode.

If an employee of the club has acted in such a way as to lose a major sponsor, isn't this grounds for dismissal?
Surely this would have been a better course of action than losing all the funding for the youth set-up?
Although, surely if Citylink signed up to a 3 year (I think) deal to support the project they can't just walk away from their commitment?

Scott, If I'm honest I would say I do not know how this really can be sorted out. One person really would like to tell It all and wants everyone to know, but as you know, people have to listen to what their legal people say.
What ever our views, I think Its sad that after all our hopes about our board and sponsors, It now has fallen apart. All I will say Is that when the facts do come out, I firmly believe you will take a different viewpoint toward a certain person at the club. Lets hope that everything can settle down soon, the team Is doing well and the youth set up Is still running and will continue to do so.

Sounds very possible that that there could be 3 sides to this story?? The trouble with not bringing it out in the open and leaving people to speculate, which is exacerbated by people saying they know stuff we don't and know who else is involved etc, is that people will do just that, SPECULATE. The longer it goes on the more speculative some of the suggestions get. Building new stands, going bankrupt etc and i am sure there are even more bizarre scenarios out there?? Far better for everyone involved to say it as it is, out in the open, done and dusted, news for 24 hours and then forgotten by the majority of us. Most people then move on, if we haven't already??

Jerry I said in a post a little while ago that the board could take action, but asked If they had the balls, part Of the problem Is that some Of this is not just club related.

tufc01 yes in a perfect world, but then there are these legal people, who put their hands over your mouth, just when you want to speak.
This Is not going to be over in 24 hours, but when I get the nod I will have no problems telling all.

I notice on the other site that the forum head has an avatar with Colin Lee crossed through and is stating that he wants Colin Lee out. he must think that he knows it is lee who is the problem then, do feel this could harm the way fans see those on the board if they do not sort things out soon. I wouldn't read into it any comment on what is happening at the moment. This relates back to a previous incident when Colin Lee behaved in an incredibly rude manner towards the man who was sponsoring him at the time. That sponsorship was withdrawn when no apology was forthcoming.

I'm not so sure that we will hear anything more from the club on this matter though. Like I said earlier, I would imagine it's far more likely for Sean to go public on the "dispute" than anyone at TUFC.
The only thing I would say is that surely the very fact that the club has allowed things to go this far - is an indication in itself that they are backing their man (whoever the employee is that was in dispute with City Link) over the issue - as surely they would not have allowed matters to go this far i.e. lose a major sponsor - if they felt that the "employee" had behaved in such an unacceptable way that his very position at the club had become untenable?
After all, whilst I don't know the exact figure involved, it's fairly obvious that we are talking a very considerable amount of money being involved in sponsoring the youth system over a three year period - and if the actions of an employee at the football club had resulted in that money being lost to the business (TUFC) directly as a result of his actions, then would that in itself not be grounds for dismissal?
I feel that this "issue" will probably just be allowed to be swept under the carpet - unless Sean Melhuish decides he wants to go public on it. For the sake of the football club, it may be best if the matter is now closed and we move on.

I still don't see how Citylink are able to just pull out and walk away, a contract is a contract so surely thay are legally bound to honour it?
Maybe this is what was meant by the club statement when they talked about "taking steps to ensure that all outstanding sums due to the club from City Link Builders are paid as soon as possible"?

For the sake of the football club, it may be best if the matter is now closed and we move on. Much as the club might like it to be "swept under the carpet" I can't see that being possible. Too many people seem to know the details of what went on so eventually it is bound to come out. Until the "facts" are known the fans will just continue to speculate and come up with ever more fanciful ideas about what has happened, this can only be harmful to the club and all the parties involved. It is obviously in the best interests of any "innocent" parties in this that the truth comes out, so I am sure the details will be "leaked" by someone before too long!

Crispygull, Is correct In saying that the club, will not be the ones who will go public on this story, If It does come out then yes I believe It would be Sean who would make It public.
Can It be swept under the carpet? the real questions Is, should It be allowed to be.You see I said that If It came out It should be everything and not just one part and I had good reason to say that.
The first problem was between two people and when I talked with someone, I did point out that many fans would just ask the question, what has this got to do with the club and why should It effect any sponsorship.Because If that was all that was put out in public, you would be forgiven for asking that.
It Is part two that for me Is the real problem and the one that would concern fans and It Is the one I feel the club would want to make sure It did not come out, If It did then It really would have to look hard at what action It would have to take.
As we type away our thoughts on here, you can be sure meetings, phone calls are going on and It Is possible that all party's will agree to keep this quite. I really don't think we will see the sponsorship deal being put back on, that Is only my view.
Jerry asks about contracts? well I do not know the ins and outs Of such contracts, but I would think any sponsor has ways Of getting out Of any deal. You see It happen all the time when a company does not like a change In image etc In what they are sponsoring and just stop the sponsorship.
There are people In this with strong wills and that may just get In the way, such a shame all this Is going on, when really with our team now doing much better, that Is all that we really should have to talk about.

I'm totally baffled by the whole situation. If the issue is a private one between the sponsor and an employee of the club (i'e not involving TUFC at all), how can the club be held accountable? And if the club aren't considered accountable, i don't understand how the sponsorship can be removed? If on the other hand, the employee was acting on behalf of the club at the time this disagreement occured, and is as obviously culpable as we're led to believe, why hasn't he been removed? With a lucrative sponsorship deal in jeopardy tht would have been the sensible option would it not? If the club are standing by their man, and waving goodbye to those much needed funds, does it not indicate the 'blame' is perhaps not as clear as some might indicate...? It's a very unfortunate turn of events either way. And all very confusing.

Purist I can fully understand how confusing all this must seem, on the one hand the first Issue would not really be a club issue, well not In my books, but the second one that Is linked to the first one,was then a club issue.
Now you wished you didn't ask, because it seems even more confusing now ;D I really don't think the club will act, I think If everything I have been told Is spot on and I have no reason not to believe It Is not, then my question Is why has nothing been done.
Its a mess and one that has done no good all all concerned, but one I hope comes out with what he Is due.
