We are all now aware Of the statement that was put on .com by the club yesterday.
Its with regret that Torquay United have to announce that City Link Builders have said they are no longer willing to maintain sponsorship of the youth development scheme and other ancillary arrangements.
City Link builders shirt sponsorship agreement remains uneffected.
The Club are taking steps to ensure that all outstanding sums due to the Club from City Link Builders are paid as soon as possible
In todays Herald all we are told Is that there Is a problem with one person at the club, but who? Before I ask further On this I want to take you back to the beginning Of the sponsorship deal.
The day the new sponsor was going to be announced at an event at the Grand Hotel, I, on behave Of this forum was pleased to be able to do an Interview with Sean Melhuish Of City Link Builders Ltd, the new sponsors Of the nearly reformed Youth setup and also the shirt sponsor.
I hope Sean will forgive me for saying this, but I felt like I was talking at times, to an over excited kid, who had just had sex for the first time.He was on cloud nine and the main reason was he felt so proud that he was able, due to the great success Of his company, be the main sponsor Of Torquay United the club he loves.
A club he loves as much as any other fan, just that he was In a position to be able to offer the club, Its biggest sponsorship deal In the history Of the club.So the real question Is, why and what has happened for him to now to feel that he can't continue sponsoring the club. Has he fell out Of love with TUFC? Is there a problem with his company? the answer to both those questions Is a very big NO
So my first question Is this, why has the board Of TUFC put a statement Of .com stating
The Club are taking steps to ensure that all outstanding sums due to the Club from City Link Builders are paid as soon as possible
Are they trying to imply that City Link have simply not paid any money due? Or Is there a suggestion that City Link has been unable to pay? The problem with such a statement and as Merse pointed out, no one had put their name to It, Is that some will read all the wrong messages and could do harm to City Link, If some felt It simply was not able to pay what was due.
My second question Is this, who is this other person? what job does he do at the club?just what has he done or tried to do that upset the main sponsor so much, that he felt the only action he could take, was to stop the sponsorship. It could be that Sean acted not just as a sponsor, but also as a fan Of the club, unhappy about what someone was up to, who knows and we will have to wait for the facts to come out, before we really can answer the questions.
If there Is nothing to hide then the club needs to make the full facts known to the fans, because they are going to know anyway, lets have an open and honest statement from the club, as to what has happened to make the sponsor who did the biggest sponsorship deal the club has ever had and one that was responsible for the new Youth setup, decide to end It.
No, I'm not Sean's mate, In fact I have had a few run ins with him, when he has not been happy with some Of my views, he knows that I'm a man Of principles and you may just find that over these matters, he also has plenty himself.
All I ask Is that everyone waits until the club does the correct thing and makes a proper statement and put ALL the true facts in It, before you start putting two and two together and getting the answer all wrong. I would add that I know Sean has been very hurt at the treatment he feels he has received and the way the club has handled these matters.
If you ever get to meet with him, have a chat, you may just find he Is not the bloke you may think he Is.One thing for sure he loves TUFC and nothing would ever stop him being a fan and still doing what he could to help his club.
Over to you the board we are waiting.
