Dave,
I would hazard a guess that he doesn't like it when he is shown to be wrong. The defense mechanism being to repeat the errors ad nauseum in an attempt to attract negative headnodding. It happens at matches all the time. We've all seen it. They then headnod themselves to anything negative thereafter.
eg: points deductions/Buckle won't take us up/failure to sign in transfer window etc...etc..

Buckles recent record is as follows: - Rushden (A) Lost York City (H) Drew Cambridge (A) Lost Crawley (H) Lost Exeter (Play offs) Lost Ebbsfleet (FAT) Lost ------------------------------ Histon (A) Drew Woking (H) Won Ebbsfleet (H) Lost Why do people want to give him 12 games - we saw how tactical useless he was last year and his love of 'HOOFBALL' - nothing has changed. The board should now be looking for a replacement (but not Rosenoir) Watched the game on Setanta (exile) and it was an embarrassment to be a Torquay supporter watching that shite Would you care to enlighten us on your current state of mind Al? Merse - my current state of mind is good, all the better for PB & the team getting us back into League 2 and to renew my acquaintance with the wonderful numpties @ Barnet. He still plays 'Hoofball' (now in lower case) - but now has to assemble at least 6 new players for us to stay in this division. At least he is better than Rosenoir.

I really do not see the point of dredging all this up again. Straw polls on the popularity of the manager fluctuate wildly through the season. We have been promoted therefore the manager as figurehead of the team is popular: not necessarily a better or a worse manager than he was in September, merely more popular.
I’ll leave Merse to cling to his specious ‘post hoc ergo propter hoc’ emoticon-happy point scoring and look ahead to next season.

specious post hoc ergo propter hoc Pretentious twaddle. Bucks has what is called a 'proven record of success'...look that up in your latin dictionary if you like.

We've a successful manager with an excellent record. That's all that needs to be said on the matter as far as i'm concerned.

The point I was trying to make before the pretension police got involved was that it is very difficult to draw a straight line between the malcoordinated mess we were in August / September and the team which brushed aside Cambridge in May.
Exhuming this thread is merely cheap and misguided point-scoring.

I agree, and have already stated, that there was little point in bringing this thread back up, but there are still disbelievers out there who continue to ignore Paul Buckle's league record as a manager.
2008-9 P49 W25 D14 L10 2007-8 P48 W27 D8 L13
TOTAL: P97 W52 D22 L25
Add in two fine FA Cup runs, one FA Trophy run to the final and the figures would be even better.
Please name for me the last manager to accomplish that sort of record at Plainmoor, ignoring whatever level of the game we were in, for not even the biggest of disblievers can lay being in the BSP in Buckle's lap.
I'm not usually one to jump into the world of historical statistics but surely this is more than enough to prove how well he has done - and yes I was one of those who was unconvinced until the start of the unbeaten run in September.
And the list of managers who has got his team out of this division in two years is very, very short.
Kudos where it is due, and time for me now to start looking ahead - no more dredging up old crap for me.

Nice to see you have all been getting on so well today on the forum we all have our own views on things and we should be able to express them without getting heated with each other. Its so easy when things have turned out fine in the end, to go back and have a go at any that doubted it would do, most on here are wise enough to know that moods and views will change during any season and the results on the pitch and where we are in the table will play a big part in those views. Those who felt back at the start of the season that Bucks was maybe not the man to get us up are all big enough to say they got it wrong, so why was there a need to bring up this thread and target a post at just one who felt Bucks was not the man to get the job done. Does it really matter what any fan felt or said back then anyway? who really cares because all that should matter to anyone is that Bucks got us back up. To be a league team I would have taken a crap performance in the final and Cambridge scoring a home goal, it is the prize we won that is important, not that so and so got it all wrong back at the beginning of the season, because he did not share the faith others had. How angry do you get merse when anyone dares to remind you how you supported Roberts? is that the reason you felt you had to bring this thread back up? Bucks is our man of the moment, Leroy once was in our last promotion season, Bucks can next season maintain the hero status, or end up a villain, he could move on to a higher club and be so fondly remembered, or get sacked as we end up fighting relegation. I believe that getting TUFC back into the football league and from the hardest to get out of division, ranks as the best achievement by any TUFC manager ever and I thank him for making me feel proud that we are a league club again. He knows as well as anyone how things can go in football management and will be mindful of the fact that fans one day will sing your name and the next demand that you leave. Its the nature of football and the fans because like it or not it will always be a results business. Get the results and fans on the whole will be happy, fail to do so will see threads that ask if you have confidence in the manager, such threads will remain for all to read months and years later. Those who read them then, need to take into consideration how things were out on the pitch and the position the team was in the league back then and should not look to take anyone to task because of the views the held at that time.

It's really sad that at this time, which should be one big summer of celebration some feel need to look back and massage their ego. Some people must be so used to backing losing horses, when they see an opportunity to point score they just can't resist. For only the third time in my supporting years we have got promoted ffs. Throughout the season all fans made judgements and posted opinions based on what they really felt about a club that they desparately wanted to see do well. I look forward to the dredging up of repeated posts made throughout the season implying that Benyon and Stevens are not worth their place in the team - Those two players did as much as anyone during our run in to get us into the play offs and subsequently promoted.
For what it is worth..........and very little I would suggest, our record of two play offs qualifications, one trophy final (pointless though it may be), two excellent FA Cup runs and ultimate promotion over the last two years has been fantastic. Does Buckle deserve credit? Of course! Could another Manager have done the same - In my opinion, yes. Could another Manager have done better - in my opinion, probably. The big test for Bucks will come next season - he won't be playing in a league which includes part time oppostition, he won't be playing in a league where TUFC are among the top eight payers. He will be playing against more clubs who also have strong back room staff with goalkeeping and fitness coaches. He won't necessarily be able to poach the best players direct from our rivals as he did with Wroe, Thompson and Brough. He will have to come up with a 'Plan B' many more times next year as the threat from Sills may not be as potent as it has been over the last two years. He will need to be far more tactically savy.
I have no problem with Bucks in general - He got the Play offs spot on..........we should have been assured of our place way before the last day of the season but we made it. It was interesting to note a slight change in the style of his comments as the season drew to a close - he actually accepted that he makes mistakes and is learning from them. If he can accept this then why can't some of his old aged body guards on this site accept it rather than throwing a hissy fit every time someone dares to critisise? I had far more respect for his later approach compared to his "it was the fans fault, no it was Weymouths fault, no the refs fault, no the pitches fault" excuses.
Given the support that the board has given, I think many Managers would have achieved similar results over the last two years and as such they are the real heros - They have backed Bucks until his nose has bled like no other previous TUFC Manager - for example they gave him the green light to bring in a striker on transfer deadline day and he brought in an overweight chump like Christie. From what I hear, with a certain amount of reluctance, they backed him again when suprise, suprise Christie got injured and he brought in a player with an injury record which makes Alan Hay look a decent signing.
Like I have said before, I have not yet been convinced that Bucks played the massive role in our promotion as many on here seem to think, certainly not enough to justfy the Dad's Army protection squad! He has many questions to answer and hopefully he will. Some on here have suggested that if we have a bad start next year then fans will be on his back - they maybe - particularly if Bucks ignores pre-season and decides to play Hargreaves at centre back - However, I think the snipers will be far less vocal next year whatever happens - merely because people like me would happily settle for a dull season of consolidation where as failure to make the Play offs last year would have been a sackale offence.
Anyway, the club has moved on......and maybe it is time that some of us fans did the same.

Another spot on post Enzo and as always you have stated your views in the correct way, I have nearly always agreed with your view points and I think you have got things spot on about next season.
Will fans get on Buckles back next season if things were not going that well? I stick by my views that they would, we have to many fickle fans who are experts at making knee jerking posts whenever a game is lost.
I see no reason to believe they will act any differently next season, but like you I'm only looking for a season where we just cement our place in league two.
We all know that a great start would see expectations rising far higher than they should and we all know that so many fans suffer from expecting rather than just hoping.

Dave, i think we were entitled to "expect" last season. However this season we're back with the professional league. So, a period of consolidation would be fine. But if we're struggling and things are going wrong then, quite rightly, questions will be asked. I don't believe this will be the case tho, i think we'll be comfortably mid to top half and i'll be happy with that. I don't think that's unreasonable.

He still plays 'Hoofball' (now in lower case) - but now has to assemble at least 6 new players for us to stay in this division. At least he is better than Rosenoir. I deliberately targeted Jaildodger aka TB1 aka as well as Alan Pike as he is my friend (yes, I do have one or two) and fellow CG. We travel a lot together, socialise together; consumately take the piss out of one another and as you can see for yourselves he hasn't any problem with my "dragging this up" unlike some of the pretentious, supercillious and petty minded on here who seem to be suggesting we should import Sausage Geezer in order to lock threads at a whim. Selective memory Dave, is what allows you to throw "supporting Roberts" at me whilst ignoring the FACT that I was one of the so called "Gang of Four" who later called a vote of No Confidence in the guy. Remember how myself, Rob Chandler, Chris Partridge and John Lear were pilloried and accused of all sorts of treachery towards the Trust and it's credibility over that? Like me, Alan Pike is old enough fat enough and ugly enough not to go whingeing and whining when others take a pop. He and I disagree strongly over Paul Buckle and his tactical approach. We don't let it bother us and we will probably still be at it at the CHAOS Cup social coming up soon. So really take your pretentious Latin and shove it where the sun doesn't shine ~ carry on with your age obsessed and "superior moi" brand of sarcasm to your heart's content.........I really couldn't give a monkey's shit. I'd be more concerend that one amongst us reckons that what he saw from the team against Burton, Stevenage and Cambridge was "hoof ball" if I were you!
