There's no doubt that this is a good signing for the club, but as there is a catch we will all be biting our nails come January. I truly believe that the sell on clause poses(?) more of a problem than being recalled. As has been mentioned above, if he performs well with us there's a big chance that a league club will come in for him and we simply would not be able to match the offer on the table. Happy we've secured a keeper till January but judging by the amount of talk about his signing in the first place, January's going to be a long month.  Let's hope we've got it wrapped up by Christmas!! ;D |

One thing I have learned lately in my life, is not to think to far in front, this has been a major change from the person I was, who always planned years in front. I say that only because we do not know, what the situation will be in January, so I believe its best to concentrate on the months and games up until then.
I'm sure the club, will monitor how things are going and i think they will be more prepared by then, if they will need to bring in a new keeper. But lets hope as you say, we are so far out in front, it won't matter what happens.

Fair point and personally I won't be losing any sleep up to Christmas, but there will always be the possibility that we will lose him and suffer if we can't source a replacement. I know it's all hypothetical, but we all know to expect the unexpected as supporters of TUFC. January is an uncomfortable month anyway but with so much potentially riding on one position. . . . . |

Yes we all know, what can happen and how hard it has been at times being a fan of TUFC and really its the merry go-round of emotions we go through, that makes it so additive. One day on a high, then the following day a downer.
It may be a big problem in January, I just don't think it will be, I think Poke will be here to the end of the season. You talk to Sean and you can sense the commitment that is in those who run the club. I Know they will be prepared, if Poke was to leave In January.

Is this sell on clause something that we should let the club know about? Sorry, been hit by the pedantic bug tonight.  Edit... On another note - These Red Thai Curry Kettle Chips are bl00dy lovely. I could eat another 2 of these bags if I had them.  One 150g bag is not enough. Serious snacking food here folks. |

I bet you eat THREE wheatabix in the morning and your the guy I see walking away from the carvary counter with his plate, piled up to the ceiling ;D ;D This is what you may find will happen, I do know Poke wanted to come here, as I said the talks were about a permanent deal. An agreement was not reached, so the talks went back to a loan deal. If Poke really proves himself over the first half of the season and knowing that he wanted to join under contract, who is to say that in January, the club will not go further and better their offer to Poke. The club by then will be sure he is the man to have and while everyone worries, he will want to play for a higher club, think on this. Poke would not want to go to a club, where he would be no2, here he will be no1, play most games and can use his time here to progress his own game. Poke will leave the club at sometime, that is a fact, so will every player we have now, some will just move on, others sent to the Knackers yard. Worry when we need to worry, but that is not now. |

 I think the worries about the January "window" can be linked in a way with the article on Spurs' whinging chairman. Perhaps Daniel Levy is just trying to create a smoke screen over the fact that HIS club consistently fails to challenge for the very top in a league HIS club were very keen to set up. Every genuine football fan and his dog told them that greed, disregard for their fellow competitors and manic chasing of the dollar would eventually lead to a sham of a competition where even the perceived "big" clubs of the time would become "small fry"in comparison to the eventual VERY big ones. I seem to remember that it was Spurs, Everton and Manchester City to name but three "fringe" clubs within the Premiership (not the real one) who avariciously wanted to caste aside clubs such as our own in the early quest for TV riches way before Sky was ever conceived and now their chickens have come home to roost whilst the lower echelons of the game that we operate in have re-grouped, consolidated and made a decent fist out of their lot. What has this got to do with Poke's loan and the January "recall period"? Well, forget the "recall" aspect for a minute; what happens if the lad puts in eye catching performance after eye catching performance and Spurs come knocking at Rupert Lowe's door offering their Sky TV money to sign the lad on and stache him away in their Third team? Won't HIS head be turned just like Keane and Berbatov? That's just how it is I'm afraid and we all just have to get on with it. So take a tip from Dave R and don't allow worrying about the future too much interfere and diminish your enjoyment of the present. After all we do know that the present is here whilst we don't know if the future will even arrive!

Don't have me down as a doommonger, as i am as positive as they come normally. Just playing devils advocate. You can't say that with the amount of time this deal we took should be completely happy with the caveats. As i said previously, i won't worry about it until January and all the speculation starts.

I think it is possible to be very positve about this news. We have got Poke for at least 5 months of the season and maybe more! I was very impressed with his performances at Plainmoor and I am looking forward to seeing how he performs against league opposition today.
There is now plenty of time for PB to line up a goal keeper from a higher league who is fed up with warming the bench, on a 90 day loan as a contingency. That would leave Rice to cover for injury and maybe even the FA Trophy final!!
