I dont necessarily think the problem is the possibility of a Saints recall, its more about the very real possibility that a league club could come in for him in the January Transfer Window and buy him on a permanent basis, thereby leaving us (again!) scratching around in January for a new number one! I'd be fairly happy with a season long loan, if we are now looking at trying to secure him in January. Yes there is always the possibilty of a league club after him, but who's to say he hasn't already turned down a league club this summer to come here. And as we've already proved, just the fact that a club is "football league" dosn't automatically mean players no longer want to come here instead. If we are up and around the top of the table come January then in a further six months we to could be back where we belong in the league and everybodys happy anyway! In a perfect world, that would be a great scenario to happen, I would agree with your views, that we have attracted players here, who have turned down, offers from league clubs, to come here. It does show that our club, has been able to sell a package to such players and they have liked what they have seen and heard from the club. I would also agree in part, to the idea that if we were top in January, that Poke might consider, that signing a contract then, might be a very good move, even more so with the chance of getting back to league football. The problem is, that the game is all about money and any young player, firstly considers where best, he can progress is career, but also how much money he is going to get paid. Unless players reach the top flight, they do need to look at how long they can stay in the game, and how much, in financial rewards, they can take out. I'm sure Poke will be able to play much higher than our league and will be looking to secure what he thinks is best for him.

Looks as though Poke's move will finally be made official in the next few hours. He is training with us ahead of tomorow's game, according to the herald.

Deal confirmed on .com now - no mention that I could see of a recall clause originally, but there is one, although apparently the rules governing goalie recalls are 'strict'
Welcome back Pokey!!

I think now and only now, can a realistic assessment be made of our chances this season. The million dollar question that now needs answering in my opinion is just who will be the vital central defenders and in my view any pairing that doesn't utilise the maximum height available amongst those who are contenders will invite problems in this league that above all else has an over proportionate amount of goals scored from re-starts. Domination of our goal mouth and the area immediately in front of it from such situations was uppermost in Buckle's selection of Robertson at right back at the start of last season as he could be utilised to lend his height to defending such restarts..............in effect a third central defender when the need arose. Such prioritising of such things might not appeal to the "aesthetists" but is essential in establishing a solid platform from which to push on from in the first twenty games or so. Also, for the first time in years and years we had a central defender who was lethal in the opposition's area on our own re-starts and that person was Chris Todd who got more attempts in on the opposition's goal than Steve Woods has done in his whole Torquay career. So that too needs careful consideration. As for the make up of our very well numbered midfield contingent and the striking department I'll happily leave that to the manager, as I feel that for the first time in recent memory we have a sizeable and high quality squad with which to challenge for success - personally I can't wait for the season to start and I haven't felt that way for many years!

Well it is really good news and I did say some time ago that we would be getting Poke, I still wish it was under a proper contract, but hope that he won't get recalled.
Now we can really start to look forward to our season, we have every reason to have high hopes and I for firmly believe, we will go up this season. Sometimes in life things won't happen just when you want them too, wait long enough and it will happen.

It's a great relief to finally get this deal concluded. Unfortunate that despite all our efforts there is still some kind of recall clause included, but i suppose we'll just have to keep our fingers crossed that Saints don't have any cause to activate it.

That is always the one big worry and you know if it was to happen, it would be at a time, that some games had to be won. Still we can't worry about what has not happened yet. lets hope by Xmas we have so many points on the board, we will be able to send Poke away on a world Cruise ;D ;D

He will be fine, but sadly it will only take a few mistakes for fans to start having a go at him. We have seen it to many times before, lets hope he shows the same form that impressed up last season.

He's a good young keeper. He's not going to be our saviour. It's a team game and he's only as good as the defenders in front of him. I welcome him in. When Rice is there, I welcome him too! Goalkeepers always get the stick and that's why they're always mostly mad. I've seen some bad'uns in our team's shirts, so I'll just be happy we've got two who will commit to the cause.
Play-offs is what I hope for at least. Automatic is Nirvana. Get going boys and good luck!

No Poke is not our Savior, but he is the final part of a very important jigsaw. Out of Poke and Rice, who would install the most confidence in any defense? I'm sure Poke has benefited from some much better coaching than Martin, he also has played in games where he himself must have gained plenty of self confidence.
If Poke had not signed(on loan) who is to say that Rice would not start the first 5 games with a clean sheet. Well to be honest, I would not expect that to happen, but it could. He would them be seen in a different light by the fans. On the other hand he could let in 5 per a game, then you might just see the end of Rice in the pro game. The point really is that players as can managers can be hero's one day and villains the next.
It could happen to Poke as well, yes we all believe he is the answer to our goal keeper problems, but watch what will happen, if he starts to cost the team games.

Good Point Dave R. The Exeter fans last season and the relationship with Paul Tisdale highlights this one. For the first half of the season most fans seemed to be against him and articles featured in the Express and Echo rang along the lines of "Will he go?" , "Can he cope?". Then what do you know, the Grecians scurry up the league to grab a last minute promotion place and inevitably go on to win (oh what horrible days!) and hey presto the fans think Mr. Tisdale is an overnight hero!
