BUT If I was being called a C*** for 90mins I wouldn't give that side any 70/30 decisions, let alone the 50/50I know the referees would always never admit to any favoritism but having reffed a bit in my time myself it is human nature to have some form of opinion on the two sides even if it is only subconsciously. If that is the case, and you were an official referee; then you were a bloody disgrace. If you can't rise above that, even worse; descend to that level of idiocy then you should never even contemplate being a referee! I would love to hear Merses views on what Paul Buckle and also Leroy felt about why the ref sent off Dsane.

I would love to hear Merses views on what Paul Buckle and also Leroy felt about why the ref sent off Dsane. I know where they're coming from and to a degree there is an element amongst referees who prefer to have a game finish evens, situations to finish evens and NOT to have the home crowd on their back. But I don't think that equates to having deliberately "evened things up" as they said (and I think Bucks could be taking to task by the FA for saying what he did) nor subconsciously doing it. This is because they mistakenly believe that some form of low key, everybody happy sort of syndrome is conducive to them being well received and their performance will not attract critical comment.

Sorry merse but as you felt the views of jmgull and also stuartb were ones that had to be right(not just because they happened to agreed with yours ) then I'll in this instance stick with my views, that both Leroy and Bucks agreed with, well by your argument on here, they have to be right.

Well the Oxford fans sure like to let the ref know how they feel and a few choice words they do like to sing, but guess what, no c word song, so it must just be our lot who do it.

Well the Oxford fans sure like to let the ref know how they feel What an utterly, utterly pointless video....................grasshopper high views of the players and constant glare from the floodlights. Oh yes, there's the constant abuse for the ref, that's what the moron who spent his admission money on looking through the viewfinder of his camcorder to preserve for our pleasure....................he might as well have used a tape recorder in his bedroom and moronically sung along to the telly Nothing gets on my tits more these days than observing in nearly every crowd shot of football pillocks texting, fools using their mobile phone cameras - anything but watch the bloody game...................no wonder we get so much rubbish posted about it!

Not a pointless video Merse in the context of what this whole thread was about and that was in case you forgot, the c word song we have sung at refs in our ground.
So while it shows no football action and you should have worked that out by its title, it shows the abuse Oxford fans gave the ref and just what songs they were singing.
Without people like Chris Hayes and Romfordkev having cameras with them at grounds they go to, we would not have all the great pictures we do on the forum, mind you not having them would make you happy as the forum would not be stretched for you, while everyone else are so glad they did as they really add so much to the forum.

I didn't mean "pointless" from the view of OUR use of it, that isn't what the maker of the video did it for; it was the futility of paying all that money for an admittedly crap view of proceedings anyhow and then effectively "missing" the game to play with his camcorder. The content and standard of photos on here are second to none and don't deserve to be put in the same category as that rubbish which is in reality an homage to silly adolescents being big pretending to be "Ultra" and provocative. Setting MY resolution renders print too small for my vision, so just leave it to me to put up with as I value the ability to read the written word above all else so kindly do not insinuate I would be "happy not to have them"; I think they are marvellous.

I would love to hear Merses views on what Paul Buckle and also Leroy felt about why the ref sent off Dsane. I have followed with interest the debate over whether officials are influenced by factors such as the crowd. I think my conclusion was that they shouldn't be influenced by the crowd and that maybe the very best ones are not, but that the majority very probably are - because as others have said they are human beings. People make all sorts of behavioural adjustments to adapt to a work environment - but under pressure nearly everyone reverts a little to type. After all the theoretical discussion, yesterday's match was a cracking practical demonstration of the issues we have been discussing. Six pointer, live TV, with a hostile 6,000 crowd. Two-footed, studs-up lunge from home player. The ref would have known that a sending-off would earn him a pile of abuse, but it was a clear-cut case and he made the correct decision. Well done to him on that one. Then Constable clearly kicks Hodges after the ball has gone. Obvious red - but reducing the home team to nine men might cause a riot. In fairness, I'm pretty sure the ref did not see the incident. If he had, would he have done what he should have done or settled for an easy life? He's probably glad he didn't see it. Then Dsane comes on and makes a silly, clumsy challenge. Superficially, it bore a passing resemblance to the earlier incident - but not two-footed and not studs-up. Yellow card at worst. But the ref gave a red and everyone sensed that he might - not because the challenge merited it but because of what had gone on before. I don't think the ref CONSCIOUSLY made a bad decision. I don't think he CONSCIOUSLY thought "I'll have to send off one of theirs to even things up". But he had to make a quick decision under enormous pressure - and I do believe that SUBCONSCIOULY he took account of what had happened before and the crowd's reaction. Obviously Leroy Rosenior and Paul Buckle felt the same and so did quite a few posters here. It's a shame Dsane didn't think like that or, as others have said, he would not have put the ref in a position where that subconscious pressure could come into play.

hi all, nvq training underway, 8.5 hours of classroom yesterday, have not worked that hard since i left the forces, lol i have now read through some of your comments left here and have time to respond firstly to davepougher, i can see where the mis understanding comes from as i have re-read my transcript, firstly the use of my words "looks like" and "there is talk of" was my way of informing you all that, this had been discussed at the post match de-brief, by the safety officer who had been summoned to the referee's changing room. however to clarify, we as supervisor's and stewards, can not and do not act as individuals, our instructions come from a higher level, via the safety officer to us. if we are told 2 warning then remove or 1 warning then remove this is what i meant by my comment, i hope this clarifies the issue, (however i have not been told of any change in policy as of today) also to fonda, re swearing fans, as i stated in a previous message that it is not the fact of distinguishing between true fans or not true fans, it is the use of the c word song that is being addressed, however as someone who is attempting to resolve the problem without ejecting anyone, i can state now that if i am told by the safety officer who receives his instructions from the club, to approach and advise the offenders of any use of swear word will result in ejection then this is what i have to enforce, whilst i am a supervisor at plainmoor then i feel that what i am tryong to acheive here is to please the majority of you all form the pop side and attempt to remove the use of the c word from the ground which was the original problem. please be confident that i will act as always within my remit and hope to draw a workable conclusion to satisfy you all. many thanks steve.

Apart from my ten year old daughter getting her little fluffy puppy dog hand bag searched I think the stewarding has improved massively, could have been quicker with the Oxford situation as well, but over all I think you guys do a great job! with reference to this incident, the search team has a remit to check all bags entering the ground, this is for bottles, cans and of course weaponry, however i do see that this may have been a bit of an overkill on a 10 year old, i apologise if this caused any offence but as i have stated before we do have to act on instructions from above. outside the pop side we are monitered by cctv and i believe the night in question our stewards were being nvq assessed however i do agree that it is not what we do, it is the way we sometimes do it. i do thank you for stating that the stewarding has improved and i will continue to strive for us to improve even further. I think the stewarding at Plainmoor is the worst its ever been, you get them walking up and down thinking they are the torquay or something. I agree with the swearing thing there is no need for it especially the C word, sometimes though in a song you may get a swear word and this is i think acceptable.
Also if you watch carefully at half time you will see a couple of stewards go round the back of the away stand and have a cigarette, surely this is not right.
The stewards are jobsworths and i dont think have ever been to a football match.
Last tuesday against Forest Green, i entered the ground at 7.30pm, walked along a bit saw a friend who said hi i stopped for literally 20 seconds a steward came up and said i have to move on!!.... i told him he had better move on as he was causing the obstrution not me by standing in the middle of the path, where i was standing up against the metal bar. They really have not got a clue, and the sooner we get real people back the better.
Rant over

Snakey wrote "Last Tuesday against Forest Green, i entered the ground at 7.30pm, walked along a bit saw a friend who said hi i stopped for literally 20 seconds a steward came up and said i have to move on!!" the reason for this has been discussed previously, at present we have stewards undergoing NVQ assessment, they are being monitored and marked, on several areas of the job, including maintaining yellow safety areas, this includes the zone in front of the barriers and the yellow stairways. I'm sorry that you felt that you had been moved on so quickly, however this is a club rule and a health and safety issue we are enforcing, and as such it will be of benefit if you would like to stop and chat this is done behind the barriers, especially now whilst we have the NVQ assessors in the ground, on the note of the worst stewarding you have ever seen, if you would care to speak to me either before the game or via the forum then i can hopefully resolve all of your issue to a satisfactory resolve Steve 004
