Benjamin Franklin...who also said...A penny saved is a penny earned. Indeed it was. I also see from another forum that two new signings are being lined up. Well, that's according to those with inside knowledge. Time will tell....

Some good points made in your previous post Rags. I think in light of the transitional period we had I was hoping for a horses for courses competitive squad that would be in or very close to the play offs and we are probably slightly ahead of my expectations. Not forgetting it is a completely new side as well which takes time to gell and something that Wotton is no doubt working on.
However, our new owners are ambitious and continuous improvement is required and that is achieved both within and without the squad. Having someone like Warnock on the board is invaluable to help get the right personale in either on loan or permanant with the former sometimes leading to the latter which may tie in with your timings.

Yes Rags, I have been told there are 2 players coming in - a midfielder and striker. I have been told their names but it will be wrong of me to reveal them. I will be meeting Michael Westcott today at Torquay Talk so I will try and find out when they will be revealed officially.

I will be meeting Michael Westcott today at Torquay Talk so I will try and find out when they will be revealed officially. I can't think of any valid reason not to announce a signing if the terms have already been agreed. Any loan can be of an indeterminate length so the date of announcement shouldn't make any difference to the duration of a loan. A short-term loan is minimum of 28 days, a long-term loan is a minimum of 93 days, and both can be up to the end of the season; so if the lending club is happy for them to sign with us (or they are a free agent) then let us know now assuming the deal has been agreed. In any case, it's positive news for us fans who ave been concerned by some of the points that we have seen our team drop. That's the same team that is in 3rd place just 1 point off the top. It's almost unbelievable that we could be top had we not thrown away wins at home to Aveley and St Albans. And still there are some fans complaining about a weak squad with players not fit for purpose (I paraphrase of course). Happy days so far...

Yes, you’ll never please some, sadly, Rags.
Strengthening our forward options - I’ve read the tall powerful midfielder scores a few - and increasing the length of Carson’s contract underline a very proactive approach for me given some of the strengths and weaknesses seen to date.
One point off the top after 10 matches with a solid defence despite a number of injuries, is a very handy position to be in. From Wotton’s comments, we may have been struggling this weekend given how many defenders could have been missing.
Would have snapped the hand off of being one point from the top after 10 if you’d asked me back in the spring where we might be now. Am guessing we all would have.

link - Collins leave Plainmoor. Not a starter and hints at further rejigging of the squad.

Squad evolution. We have to try and capitalise on a decent start. Collins was steady though not at all creative but we need more than steady to push on. Fair decision for both parties. Glad the management have acknowledged our shortcomings and are being proactive to try and improve the areas that we need to strengthen. With the departure of Booth and Collins and the loan out of Crosbie, it gives the manager room to bring in some fresh faces. Players have been lined up to bolster the areas that are short of the quality required so expect some news anytime soon.

It’s been suggested elsewhere that 6’4” midfielder Isaac Fletcher (Spennymoor) and 27 year old forward Offrande Zanzala (Fylde) have been training with us with a view to a move. Zanzala was on the bench for Fylde, under a new manager, this Saturday just gone. Fletcher just won Player of the Month for NLN.

I know context is everything, however Fletcher has a better goals-to-game ration than Zanzala!

Yep. Context. Nouble’s goals per game ratio, also in divisions above, wasn’t all that great. Yet he was an absolute belter of a signing, albeit a fair bit older than Zanzala when he came to us. Here’s hoping for some concrete news by or on Saturday of reinforcements.
Edit: That said, same source of discussion saying both have fallen through as signings. Loose lips sink ships? Who knows. Fingers crossed for some news soon on the areas identified by the Manager and DOF as in need of improvement.

Of course, there could be a myriad of reason:fitness, contract negotiations, fit with the squad, better offers elsewhere, etc, etc. But I always wonder what people gain by spreading rumours and naming names. If they sign, they sign. What is the advantage to anyone to be able to name a player training with the squad if he doesn't sign a contract? Even if he does sign a contract!

And of course: goals-to-games ratio is irrelevant. Goals scored for Torquay United is the most important stat, and no previous record with another team can predict that.
