Ankle ligaments - 3-6 weeks out from start of problem. Cheers - tackle (or assault) happened just in front of me, nasty.

Last summer, we lost a few key players but managed to keep quite a few too.
The problem with being near the top of the table is that the earning power of your players goes up. We can't compete in a bidding war with say Notts County or Stockport but I bet we ended up paying more to the players we did keep. Not surprising that we bent over backwards to keep our better players, but that meant what was left of the budget was not enough to bring in more players of the same quality and we ended up with too many "fillers". We might have got away with it with good luck with injuries but as it was we ended up having to rely on players who were either just not good enough or not yet good enough.
My hope is that this year we have spread the budget a bit more evenly and will not be totally dependent on the best eleven being fit every game. That's the hope that leaves me "cautiously optimistic". Just cannot see us in the race for the title, but playoffs should be within our sights. If we hadn't had that awful start, we probably might have scraped into the top seven without setting the world alight.
Would be nice to have somebody (Corie Andrews?) knocking in 20-odd goals. That could make the difference between underachieving (bottom half) and overachieving (top six).

Looks like a decent squad...think we might surprise a few people.

This happened four weeks before our first game of the season so touch and go for him and he won’t be as fit having missed virtually all of the preseason game time. Also see that Asa and Tom have sat out the last two games with knocks after playing at Buckland and their preparations have been disrupted too. Hopefully they can play at some point next week. Not sure if a game can be arranged for the blank Saturday after the Exeter game. Absolutely no sign of both O’Connell and Rogers and suspect they are not in Johnson’s plans and are perhaps looking for another club. If they leave or go on loan it would leave a squad of 20 including 2 first year pros and suggests more incomings. Possibly another loan signing or two which always come very late with managers making the call at the end of pre season training, maybe towards the end of July?

Odd theres been no mention of either O'Connell or Rogers. Both were rushed in to boost the squad most of us surprised on two year contracts something we as a club have to be really cautious of when they dont come up to scratch and drain precious resources.
Lapslie also on a two year and a great little terrior of a player but does appear to rather fragile and has been injured and missed games far to often for my liking.
I sense GJ 's philosophy has adjusted somewhat this year and really looks intent to get these young players playing in his style pretty quickly. He seems to be relishing a clean sheet and fresh challenge with a new and exciting group of players most of us hadn't heard of but have obviously been scouted and monitored for a long period and perhaps gone under the radar of the bigger clubs at our level. After all those club supporters will demand big known names. Wrexham for instance were reported to be in for a Bolton player and had offered £500k. The only way we can ever hope of being competitive is by being hard working and shrewed in the transfer market and having the johnson brothers with years of experience and library of contacts can only be good for our club.
We've experienced far to often the pitfalls of inexperienced managers who simply dont have the contacts or respect in the lower league football world. Absolutely crucial at our level to have a focused and hard working management team in tune with the realities of a our small budget.

Actually Lapslie renewed his contract although it was speculated that he was on a two year deal. Lots of 22 year olds or under signed. Suspect on 1 year deals to reduce liability but with compensation due if they do decide to move onwards.

It's always a gamble isn't it, but I sincerely hope that those who show real promise after three months, assuming they are on one year contracts, are persuaded to sign extensions well before the end of the season. That aside I am cautiously optimistic because the recruitment appears more thought out than last season, although I don't necessarily expect promotion this season. We've practically got a whole new squad and Buckle and Leroy took two years to get their charges over the line and that is what I am expecting here.

link - bit more on O’Connell leaving the club on TUFC website. link - all those cliff path training runs and Dave Thomas channels Ian Twitchin who used to jog to and from his home in Teignmouth and still win those runs. There is a Ian Twitchin trophy organised by TUST for the player who put in the most minutes on the pitch during the season. So far Davis, Sherring and Wynter have been the worthy winners with Ben hopefully able to get his award later this month. Apparently Johnson is just thinking one more forward will complete the squad line up. May mean Evans will cover wing back more or even ending up playing there as his de facto position if that is the case - link

link - Will Goodwin signs on loan from StokeCity. Two months younger than Olaf Koszela, makes me wonder what the future holds for Olaf. Although it doesn't say how long the loan is for, GJ implies that it is for the entire season: " ...but we’re pleased to say he’s agreed to join us, and he’ll be a major part of our squad, and obviously our season." So does GJ think Goodwin is Olaf's replacement?

I suspect Koszela is destined to play a bit part at best this season, maybe even loaned out again. To be fair Goodwin offered more in 45 minutes today than Koszela has in our other psf. Just my opinion.

So does GJ think Goodwin is Olaf's replacement? According to the Stoke City website the deal lasts until January. Surely if Koszela has a future with us he is either going to regularly be in the match day squad or loaned out at National League South/North level, otherwise why was he given a new contract?
