If - when the retained list is announced - and it’s announced that Hall, CLE, Little, Wynter and Lewis are all departing, then it will really mark the end of something in the sense that relegation to the NLS and the rather sublime and enjoyable football that followed on and off since September 2018 has marked some of my most enjoyable seasons as a Torquay fan. There have been better years obviously but after such a prolonged period of being awful (basically from January 2013 until September 2018) Gary Johnson and that group of players gave us something I wasn’t sure we’d ever see again and so it will be sad when they go.
GJ’s interview was revealing and hopefully with a decent length Pre-season he will get the players we need but I’ve no idea who they could be.

I would agree with this. I went to Maidstone in Jan 2017 and saw a dismal 2-1 defeat, an absolutely dreadful performance that should have been a 6 or 7 goal thumping for us. The next game I saw was the last game of the season at home to North Ferriby when we could still have been relegated if results went against us. We won 2-0 but it was far from convincing. That was that for me until almost two years later when I was persuaded to make the short trip to Hemel Hempstead in February 2019. OMG (as the kids say), it was light-years better than the dross served up under Kevin Nicholson. We played with pace, we passed accurately, we moved into space, we used the width of the pitch, we played intelligent, skilful football. I hadn't seen anything like that from a Torquay United team for years. In the team that night were Shaun MacDonald, Ben Wynter, Asa Hall, Connor Lemonheigh-Evans and Jake Andrews who is technically still our player but is undoubtedly on his way. Yes, I know it was only NL South, but that season re-awakened my excitement for this club. It's not so much the players, it's the way we played. At Southend on Sunday it didn't seem like a Gary Johnson team at all, but then again you could say that about a lot of games this season. I hope I will be as excited by the new recruits as GJ is implying he is, we could be on for a good season after the summer holidays. [fingers crossed]

Being reported that Dan Holman has gone. So not all doom and gloom then.

I get where Hector and Rags are coming from. The last game I saw under Gary Owers tenure was a 0-2 home defeat against Dover and I have to say it was one of the worst performances I had seen in 40 years. Then I was diagnosed with cancer and quite frankly didn't care anymore not even when the relegation came. Then after a long recovery a mate said to me it was really going well under Johnson and asked me to go up with him for the Welling home fixture. It was simply amazing, here was a team who actually knew how to play football and actually looked like they hadn't just met for the first time ten minutes before kick off. It seems a long time ago now, but then again we were robbed of seeing most of last season's heroic effort (it simply doesn't feel the same seeing it via the web as compared to being there live). I actually thanked my doctor for keeping me alive long enough to see Torquay actually win a trophy, so yes it feels like the end of era, but hopefully a new dawn also.

Have had a few local Aldershot supporting mates tell me tonight that they believe their skipper is on his way to us. Lewis Kinsella. He’s a left back. Thought I’d bung it on here. Might well be agent fuelled nonsense to up his earnings. I did say that we are not Moneybags FC and ours get poached these days as was seen last season with the exits and incomings, as every possibility someone earlier in that food chain decided we are ‘moneybags’, so therefore we are who might pinch their better players. As opposed to the Club’s who do splash the cash. He’s a decent player, though. More here on the subject www.shotsweb.co.uk/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=54063&sid=9554c9004ddb2860decf0850d822a48a

There's no better manager that Torquay could get to come here and I think that when he does go his tenure will be seen as a golden era. Yes, it looks as if we could be losing some stalwarts and better players but GJ is more than capable of replacing them and putting together a promotion side.

I’m with you, but only part of the way. I think GG IS capable of putting g together a side that will challenge - but only for a final play off spot.

Players that have not been offered a contract are Klaidi Lolos, Louie Slough, Scott Piper, Chiori Johnson, Joe Felix, Dan Holman, Marcin Brzozowski and Jake Andrews. We appreciate all that they have done for the Club, and wish them well for the future,” said Johnson.
The Gaffer also went on to confirm that thirteen players from last season’s squad have been offered new deals for the forthcoming campaign.
“Ali Omar, Dean Moxey, Asa Hall, Dan Martin, Tom Lapslie, Olaf Koszela, Alex Moyse, Danny Wright, Ben Wynter, Shaun MacDonald, Joe Lewis, Armani Little and Connor Lemonheigh-Evans have all been made offers of a new contract. Mark Halstead, Gabby Rogers and Keelan O’Connell are still in contract.

Note the order the players being retained are in on the list: with the five players most likely to be moving on being named last!

It beggars belief that Gaby Rogers is on a two year contract. I'm not impressed, how much money is tied up in the three on long term contracts who are rarely used and then offering new contracts to Wright and Hall who are both physically past it.

Indeed, looks like the Old Guard are all being kept on, surprised at that although all have given a lot to the club. At the other end well done to Alex Moyse on a renewed contract offer.
