Very difficult to score if you are not on the pitch. Replacing Wright should be a top priority. My sentiments exactly, Wright may be a good player on the pitch but he rarely sees the pitch…except from the stands. If Wright has been given another contract it will show our intent for next season…he might be a little Poncho to keep the rain off, but he’s hardly a Marquee! Don't think lack of game time is the issue with Wright, only 6 players have started more games than him this season. Unfortunately he only managed 5 goals in his 32 appearances!

Surprised by that: note to self…must try harder. 🙂

It probably takes two years to get a promotion winning squad together, certainly did for Leroy Rosenior and Paul Buckle, so if we were to be serious contenders for next season we would have needed to retain the core of our best players from this season and that doesn't look like happening. Big question is does GJ feel he's got at least another two seasons in him.

Agree entirely Pete but we are fortunate enough to have a manager who can pull rabbits out of the hat and has all of the attributes to perform one last miracle. In Buckles days you could pick up fair to middling non league talent and put a side together that could compete and challenge. Now you need football league standard players of a reasonable level right through the side. Odds on us will be well against us with the quality and standard improving season on season and much bigger clubs than us slipping into the National league which for all intents and purposes is now League div three or the old division four. Its demoralising when you see your better players leave, its always been that way down here and remember the mass exodus to Bournmouth of many key players in the late 1960's that quickly saw our demise as a top division three football club. Success for a club of our stature has its drawbacks and a reason why were constantly on that success /failure rollercoaster. You have to have hope to support your club but I'm more of a realist these days and understand more than ever what a difficult job any manger has down here but lets all hope GJ stays fit healthy and driven for one of his sure to be last efforts to get us promoted as I fear he will be very hard to replace.

Would expect MacDonald, Wynter, Lewis, Little and Lemonheigh-Evans to see what else is on offer before committing to us. I would not blame them for doing so. We would be lucky to keep two of the five.
Moxey, Hall and Wright are all the kind of characters you want around the club. If money were no consideration, it would be nice to keep them all and accept they would put in limited appearances. In the real world, we have to have our bigger earners playing regularly. Can’t see Wright staying but would keep either Moxey or Hall. Either might be more value as a wise old head in back three rather than haring around as a flying left back or a midfield dynamo.
Omar has definitely earned the chance to continue his education. Martin possibly, Johnson or Felix but maybe not both.
Halstead and Lapslie thought to have another year on their contracts anyway.

I've just had a quick look at Wikipedia and it says that John Bond applied for the manager's job when Frank O'Farrrell left. What a case of what might have been.

I wonder if that is because it was felt you needed to offer a longer contract to lure a player away from an EFL club? Pretty sure that Lapslie and Halstead were both released by their previous clubs so probably didn’t need luring away, unless there were other clubs in the EFL looking to sign them but probably not. I’ll be sad and sorry to see Little, CLE and Lewis go - which I’m sure that they will do - although I’d be more optimistic about retaining MacDonald and Wynter. The aforementioned trio are too good for this division and as such too good for us but I hope they find an EFL club and don’t join Notts County. The striker at Poole might be worth a punt but you’d think that at 26, he’d have broken through by now it players have developed late in the past so there may be something worth considering. Hopefully, the relationship with QPR will continue. Turning points of the season have coincided with initially the arrival of Sinclair Armstrong and then taken up a further level with the acquisition of Stephen Duke-McKenna. Lee Johnson looks like he might get the job as manager of Hibs but I can’t see them having many players that would come down to us. Not sure how Lee Johnson keeps getting managerial jobs. He’s managed bigger clubs than his father without even a modicum of the success his dad has had.

Wow - that's a damning indictment of the current squad by Gary Johnson in his post-Southend interview. He sound like he's long given up on the current squad and is already thinking about the new players who haven't even arrived. And I interpret that as meaning the thoughts he articulates have been his thoughts for a long time, not just the last few games. torquayunited.com/gaffer-reacts-to-final-day-draw-at-southend/

An honest and to the point assessment if ever I heard one from GJ in his post match interview. I predict a long list of departures good and bad. Sounds like its going to be a pretty major rebuild job but I do hope the players he thinks he may be able to bring in are viable. We all know that the better players who become available can afford to wait for he best deal and that's not likely to be here.
