As we get deeper into the season and with the more and more cases of Covid affecting fixtures all over the country this question is bound to pop up. In a worse case scenario for the clubs ahead of the game like ourselves and doing well it could spell disaster if the season is declared null and void. Already there are clubs who have played 6 or 7 games less than ourselves with those struggling at the bottom likely to call for a null and void season if given the opportunity. As far as I know there is no definitive cut off point for games played when promotion and relegation can be decided as it was last season which saw Barrow promoted on a points per game basis after playing 37 matches.
Of course there is the big picture where many are still dying form this bloody awful virus. For ourselves and a purely footballing point of view it would be devastating after making such huge strides and dominating the division but as the days pass with no decline in cases and increasing death rates it must be a possibility and many are starting to ask the question, should we continue?

Never say never but my feeling is that we will come to some sort of conclusion even if not all games are played. Any football below elite level though is now more likely to be declared null and void which includes the women’s team of course. From the national viewpoint, I think this will be the worst month as we have the fallout from the festive season working through the statistics and the vaccination programme is yet to make an impact but think things will start to improve and quite rapidly from next month.
We still have 20 odd weeks of the season left with 28 league fixtures left so not even a midweek game every other week for us although there is the trophy to also factor into. I recall our first season in the national league under Buckle when we ended up playing Saturday Tuesday Thursday Saturday for one week so shows what can be done. Taking the Premier League precedent when either 2/3 or 3/4 of games played will be enough to constitute a season then that is either 30 or 33 for us which we could feasibly achieve just playing in April and May!

Some form of truncated season seems likely at the moment. From our point of view the percentage of games played necessary for the season to be valid could be critical.

I thought I would wait until somebody else started a thread on this topic rather than run the risk of being called a doomsayer. I cannot for the life of me understand why the various leagues hadn't already decided what the cut off point for a viable season should be when the season was started. Given that season started without fans, and also started late in our case, it was obvious that covid planning was still going to be an issue. I am certainly not going to say that football matters more than other people's well being and safety, but it would be pity (and nothing more) if the work that Gary Johnson and the club have put in this season was to go to waste.

Whilst I would normally be enthusiastic about the FA Trophy (well more than most people at any rate) I cannot understand why this season's competition went ahead whilst the final of last season's competition is still outstanding (and due to the passage of time one the finalists is actually a Football League club).

It is not difficult to foresee a situation where all football outside of the Premier League is suspended. Worryingly, it suits Premier League clubs in the bottom half of the table to have no promotion or relegation this season. In the words of Bob Dylan...Money doesn't talk..it swears.

I think we can safely say that there are two possibilities here...a) TUFC will be top of the league, or b) TUFC will not be top of the league.
Should a) be in place if a cancellation of the season takes place, it is 100% certain that the season will be null & void. Should b) be in place if a cancellation of the season takes place, it is 100% certain that the top team will be promoted.
Which brings me to the Grail! As has already been mentioned by Pete from Plainmoor, why the hell did it even take place this season? It was insane to have started...it is even more insane that any team would want to progress to the second round...and it is totally insane that any fan of any team that did progress to the second round, would want it to happen! 🙄

The FA have begun canvassing clubs from step 2 down (ie National League North/South) as to their views on whether the season be declared null & void, be rolled over into next season, or continued and decided on a PPG basis. If PPG is to be used the FA offers two options as to how much of league programme must be completed, either 66% or 75%. If this exercise were to be extended to step 1 we would need to play at least another 13 fixtures for promotion/relegation to apply.

If the Trophy matches in this round aren’t completed by Tuesday night, I wouldn’t mind seeing that competition scrapped and for last seasons finalists (it didn’t get played) to just play out a final at some point. One presumes mostly National League sides may be left after this round. Not necessarily so. And a glance at our League table already has the feel of a Sunday League table with a few grounds having a ‘bottom field’ location. Those below our level who may remain in the competition are already talking PPG or null and void and may make even less sense for them. Get rid for a season and play the final that never was. Also - not snowing in Borehamwood presently. Our cancellation was nonsense and don’t believe a word of it. ‘Weather might be bad’. Give over. Gut feeling is Boreham Wood may declare someone has the sniffles on Tuesday and await test and to pull out of competition. Whether wrong or not, the reason for today’s postponement seems highly unlikely to be the official reason given as I see it.

Totally agree...FA Trophy should be scrapped. 50% of games played for season to be valid not a bad option either. In retrospect...it would have been smart to have scheduled two " half seasons"...every team play every other team in first 22 games...reverse fixtures in second "half" of the season. Season valid if first 22 games completed.
