link - rather worryingly, the next tranche of payments is being framed as a loan which could end the season as far as clubs are concerned......

link the beeb now picked up on this. Suppose the other option is a pause and then continue when fans can come in like when we were in tier 2. If new cases in Torbay follows the last lockdown and the data suggests it is with rates now 10 to 20% below the peak then locally we will be back to very low levels again by mid February with the top 4 categories also being protected at this stage. Technically, the season could be finished in March, April and May, 13 weeks, 2 games a week but the bar only needs to be set at 30 or 33 games.....

link - 3 options rumoured to be on the table, clubs take out a long term low interest loan, the National League will do so and distribute as a grant to clubs. Finally, suspend the season until crowds return, The very good news from our point of view, is for the moment, null and void of the season is not a option. 😀

Good news. Suspending the season not a bad option.

I personally do not believe the season will be abandoned it would create more problems than it remedied with the knock on effect through the divisions. Also the physiological benefits of looking forward to a football match for so many locked up in their homes should not be underestimated
The loan/grant issue is no doubt a stumbling block but what also should be happening is clubs and authorities should be looking at every option so all clubs can fulfill fixtures while fans are excluded from attending. A little more imagination and lateral thinking perhaps. It could mean Sunday matches, matches at odd times, matches at different of day and flexibility when re arranging fixtures with clubs that are able to jump in and play a fixtures at short notice. Sounds a bit daft but these are daft times and It even crossed my my mind to make the match time shorter 30 minute halfs to enable fixtures to be closer together - two day break between fixtures - three games a week. Ok sounds crazy and would likely never happen but better than abandoning a season if fixture build up becomes an issue and little different to a penalty shoot out to decide a game. Hopefully no extreme measures will be necessary with covid infection rates slowly heading in the right direction, and hopefully crowds soon be able to return.

Thanks petef...totally agree. I understand the high cost of a furlough scheme for NL clubs is also a strong incentive to complete the season if possible. Fingers crossed.

Thanks petef...totally agree. I understand the high cost of a furlough scheme for NL clubs is also a strong incentive to complete the season if possible. Fingers crossed. If the clubs opted for suspending the season until fans are back then the clubs would furlough their players (at least up until April). So perhaps there may be government pressure on the FA not to approve that decision if made. I can't see the clubs, not the majority at least, going for a loan, no matter how cheap or how long the repayment period. That leaves the NL borrowing the money and handing it out in grants. If this was the chosen option I would expect a lot of arguments over who gets what. Should the high spending full time clubs get more than their cash strapped part time brethren as happened last time? This isn't going to get settled quickly, hopefully we can get our games in against Notts and Sutton and take the points before the proverbial hits the fan.

link - Dave Thomas makes a couple of good points about the impact on the relationship with the EFL and how it could jeopardise the two up, two down principle plus whether this will effect the league’s elite status which has its pros and cons.

Possibly their headline is a little misleading. From what I have heard, and it is not necessarily accurate, a significant number of NLN chairmen have signed an open letter demanding the season be stopped. Two clubs in the NLS are refusing to play on Saturday, Concord and Slough. I don't think any NLP sides have shown their hand yet. I'm not that concerned about what happens in NLN and NLS because I cannot see why the NLP shouldn't continue even if the part time clubs decide to throw in the towel.

Be interesting to see if our FA Trophy game goes ahead away to National League North Southport. May get a bye and save a long trip. ⚽️
