I maybe reading between the lines dyselexically but whilst there is an understandable wish for the part time clubs to end the season does this mean that a large majority of clubs in the premier division voted to carry on?

Be interesting to see if our FA Trophy game goes ahead away to National League North Southport. May get a bye and save a long trip. ⚽️ Certainly will be interesting to see what happens. It seems Southport have indicated their reluctance to carry on is due to concerns over player and staff safety, not down to financial reasons. Would be slightly hypocritical if they chose to carry on in the cup against us.

And if they are still in it, play a different one.

link - The majority of national league teams want to keep playing. This opens a schism between steps one and two with the latter now suspended and the majority of these clubs not wanting to take on a loan. Hard to call where this will end up but my gut feeling is the National League will keep on playing. I think it is that tight that every club above the relegation zone has a chance of the play offs and the bottom three who look more and more likely to stay within the relegation zone will be especially pleased if step 2 is voided. What we can do as fans throughout the National Leagues is contact our MPs to try and get more support in place. Locally that also means Totnes and Newton Abbot if you live in those catchments.

I see the Notts County game is our fourth game on the road in a row and if the Southport game does go ahead then that means we would have played 6 out of 7 games away broken only by Tuesday’s Sutton game at home.

link - good letter from Kevin Foster written to Oliver Dowden. Let’s hope it has a positive effect.

What’s frustrating is that we could be in tier 2 crowd restrictions by April / Easter and we are only 3 games off the half way point now.

A football match is stopped if either team has fewer than 7 players on the pitch. How many teams are needed for the National League to continue?

OB - clubs to vote on formal resolution on continuation of the season OB - vote for steps 1 & 2 to be separated.. OB - statement by 16 step 2 clubs The excellent Ollie Bayliss has tweeted on the latest situation with Nigel Huddleston MP talking to clubs this morning prior to the national league sending a resolution for voting upon to clubs on Monday. There seems to be less of an appetite to continue at step 2 clubs and at this point in time I would guess that the national league will continue but North and South will not. It may mean that those clubs near the bottom of our league will be less motivated in that scenario but overall I think this is good news for us and reflects the gap between the two steps in terms of professionalisation. More on this in the also excellent Nick Brodrick’s Fan Zone column in TUST updates.

link - Good response from Altrincham about continuing the season and how hard fought getting those promotion places to the EFL was.

It wasn't so long ago there was no automatic promotion between non league and football league. I remember very well that clubs who finished bottom of the football league, League Division four as it was known, would only have to apply for re-election and it was almost a forgone conclusion they would be readmitted. One or two failed, Bradford pk Avenue and Workington Town come to mind but generally in the 1960's and 70's it was unusual to lose you status as a league club. The "old boys network" no doubt controlled that one! A pretty ridiculous system that discouraged serious competition in non league. To now have two places up for grabs has really added competition and raised the standard of football at our current level with the division now made up of many former league clubs. In reality I see the National league is in effect the equivalent of the old fourth division both in the standard of football and professionalism along with some of the quality grounds now looking like football league standard. The Holy Grail of regaining our FL status is what keeps fans attending football matches to watch live competitive football.
Every competitive sport needs a prize, a light at the end of the tunnel for the sport to survive or the whole exercise is pointless.

Whilst we clearly have a horse in the race this season, that has to be right, Pete.
With PPG last season and this debate re this season, the notion of a League 3 and Elite status gets further away and instead struggling EFL sides will no doubt cite that if they fancy pulling up the Sky money ladder in future seasons and reversing the progress of two up two down to football’s pyramid.
I think most National League Premier sides see it the same. I think the Altrincham owner sums it up perfectly. I do hope so.
