Most are no doubt aware of the utter incompetence of this Government and that Johnson’s days are numbered. Not sure we need to know more than that.

petef Whether there was to be any football this weekend, was dependent on a political decision. It's a vastly different scenario to the start of past seasons. After my post, rjdgull provides two links, one with 'government' in the title, and the other with 'Johnson'. But not even a hint of politics in those links or their content ? It's a fact that the football would almost definitely not be going ahead without taxpayer funding. It's not an argument for Right Wing or Left Wing causes, it's a simple statement of fact .... so why the reticence in acknowledging it ? But as you're so quick to join in Pete, inform me what you think rjd is actually labelling 'rubbish' ? I've written 3 lines. In the first I say the the cost of the football games given the go ahead will be covered by the taxpayer. If you don't agree tell me why, don't just shout 'rubbish'. In the second line I say that the best way to start the season would be with a win. If you or rjd don't agree, just explain why, as 'rubbish' gives no clue. In the third line I indicate that the Government now provides the financial means for the game to be played, while also imposing the restrictions that stop us going along to watch it. Again, just take a minute to say why you don't agree rather than just rant 'rubbish'. Rjd's talk of percentages and decimation of historic clubs are separate issues which I'd probably have no disagreement with him on, and in no way invalidate anything I've said let alone make clear what he thinks is 'rubbish' ! And incidentally, opinions expressed that Government should lean on the Premier League to provide money to clubs in other leagues is a political point and a political opinion. Of course no one objects or says keep politics out then do they. I mention the taxpayer funded reality without indicating a pro or anti position on it, and that's introducing politics. Lets have a clear explanation on who can say what, who can link to what, because it's crystal clear that there's a desire to apply the criteria selectively. Plus it wouldn't hurt to consider that the info gleaned from a radio interview at 8am, and the good news rushed to this Forum for the benefit of readers, is not going to have the detail on percentages of funding etc that might be in the public realm 4 hours later. So why not delete all earlier posts as 'rubbish' as new updated information comes on stream ? Robs link posted 5 hours ago, and put up soon after my post, provided a link last updated 59 minutes ago. It has more and different information to what Rob gave us to read 5 hours ago. Can we justifiably shout 'rubbish' at him for the scant or lack of information it contained at 10am ? Those piling into the lunchtime 'rubbish' chorus needs to take this into account. It's an evolving picture which will probably be fleshed out further as the day goes on. Nothing to do with the subject matter Alpine its the politically biased overtones through many of your posts - not necessarily from your last post- that grinds my gears on a football forum. We have plenty of mainly right wing propaganda being rammed down our throats from every angle of the media at the moment without having to read more politically biased opinion on here. The world is a complete mess at the moment watching narcissist self interested idiots in charge of the major countries saddens and scares me and for the futures of my children. Anyone who dared watch last nights so called American so called adult election debate to realise how f**kd up the world is politically and otherwise. Keep it to football mate or find a forum that will listen to your words of wisdom.

Let's get the show on the road. The Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport will be permitting taxpayer funded football. What better way to kick off our new season in the DCMS National League than with a home win against Stockport. Boris's Bolshevik's bring football to the people .... even if they do have to keep the people at a safe distance so that they can't actually see it Rubbish, it is temporary support for otherwise viable clubs and will only be for a percentage of revenue. Decimation of historic clubs is in no one’s interests. Alpine - it was “Boris Bolshevik’s bring football to the people” that led me to think you disagreed with this support package hence the rest of my paragraph. Probably read too quickly as I do not now think this was the case and I apologise for rubbishing your comments.

Oh no, please, not this forum as well. Political shite of every persuasion. Who the hell is interested in other peoples political views. Can't even have a thread 'Starting the new Season' without someone wanting to get their bit of political dogma across I've almost given up on the forums.

I quite agree that this is the last place I want to read political bigotry. It's not very often I post on any forums but in this case I couldn't hold back. On the subject of FOOTBALL full marks to the club for the excellent streaming of the PSFs so far. I think £9 for league games is a fair price to pay. The only negative is whether DT will still be wandering down memory lane as is his tendency. Does anyone know if any of the away clubs will be doing the same. It would be great if we could access them as well.

It seems that each club will get the revenue for their home games so actually TUFC should get off to a flying start with the Stockport fan base looking to see their team return to action,

The only negative is whether DT will still be wandering down memory lane as is his tendency. Does this mean that the same commentary will be used for both streaming and radio? If so, it won't really work, because radio commentators describe everything, which is annoying when you can actually see the game. Not a complaint by any means, just an observation.

If so, it won't really work, because radio commentators describe everything, which is annoying when you can actually see the game. Not a complaint by any means, just an observation. Your quote button was easy to find, Stewart A radio orientated commentary when you've got pictures, is indeed most annoying. 'Bloggs cuts inside and is thirty yards from goal, he's got two defenders facing him' etc, isn't necessary when it's staring you in the face as you look at your screen, but vital for the radio listener. I can't see we'd tailor the output to those availing themselves of a free service, to the detriment of those paying to get pictures. He who pays the piper almost always calls the tune, and for good reason. There will either need to be separate commentaries, or those listening in will have to count their blessings that they're getting anything at all, given there's no compulsory charge to follow the game via the radio.

If the commentary is shared with the radio one it's quite easy to switch it off and just watch the game. If we were at the game we wouldn't have one, we would just watch, swear or cheer

Re your earlier post, Stockport, as mentioned, are doing a home games streaming service. Wrexham, Hartlepool, Dover. I suspect most, if not all, will have announced they are doing the same ahead of their first home matches. AJ - I’ve often wondered what the point is in playing the wind up merchant and then getting all of a lather every few months when it’s challenged and dished back? As a non-local, it is somewhat of a bonus to be able to see us play on screen every week. It’s good to read about replays and interviews to complement the service. The reports of those viewing the pre-season friendlies suggests we will get a decent package for home matches. I’ll probably turn the commentary off after a while. Not at first, but probably by the second half of the first game. Depends also on DT. Good in print. Not on a Saturday, for me either. And like you atherington, the odd cheer and swear will inevitably come with the viewing.

We are all going to miss that live match day experience as for the time being we become armchair supporters. However, big win for non locals and even locals can see all the games now, suppose money spent in ground will now be spent on streaming for away games. If this is replicated generally then our club should get a boost in income from away support at least.

Rob Blimey, you’ll keep on wondering about a lot of things if you totally ignore the answer after it’s been provided. I’ve tried to explain that the ‘challenge’ as you term it, was so vague that I couldn’t connect it to my post, nor have been able to understand the justification for the responses it has received. The post was nothing more than essentially relaying the information given on the radio sports desk that morning, With the addition of using my favourite amusing (to me at least) nickname for this Government. Even delaying breakfast in order to get a predominantly good news story out to the forum, quite some sacrifice ! It’s just a fact that the Football headline that morning was to report on a political decision, one that had important ramifications for Torquay and for non league football, and that had a greater bearing on the start of our season, and whether it would start at all, than whether Olaf is on form, or whether we like the new kit. However, those far happier answering their own question are more content concluding that it was me forcing politics into the issue, and me deliberately playing the part of a wind up merchant. Now whether your goal is to ignite further bad feeling and force this back to square one, or something else, I’ll keep my conclusions to myself, other than to say when it comes to the art of winding people up, or keeping a pot unnecessarily on the boil, I can recognise those far more adept at it than me

For once technology could be the saviour though I do wonder just how many supporters will be paying to view a league game. This opener, just like a normal start to a season will attract a few extra and depending on how we perform may hang around and continue to pay if the entertainment value and results are up to scratch.
My guess is there will be under a thousand £9's spent with a percentage sure to share the cost and watch together. Would love to believe many more would pay to view but there are sure to be a number of supporters who may not be up speed with modern technology and cannot be bothered with making the effort and will choose to listen to matches on the "wireless" for free rather than stand around on a cold terrace. Its possible I could be completely wrong, in fact I hope I am and maybe this could open a up a massive revenue stream particularly if exiled supporters tune in. Surely if streaming proves to be even a minor success and when supporters are allowed back into grounds must be looked at as a possible extra income to gate takings though I do see a danger of attendances being affected when the weather is poor with some may even be quite happy to continue watching at home if they have a choice. All unknowns of course but if revenues can be gleaned from the large number of exiles around the globe then it surely has to be researched.
