Rumoured that we go ahead on October 3 behind closed doors. Bath pulled out of Saturday’s game. I see Hartley Wintney are free. - bit of a blow to our preparations when you consider a few haven’t started and others with only 20 minutes of game time. Can something be organised? Unless the season is cancelled, we are desperate for a game. Four games looked too few anyway and the team looked far short of ready in the Chippenham game. It is possible to fix a game up and if at Plainmoor streaming revenue would offset costs. Not easy to find opposition as everyone is fixed up. An under 23 XI (Bristol City, Southampton, Bournemouth, Exeter, Plymouth) might be possible. Two Southern Premier sides - Hartley Wintney and Beaconsfield have no game. Nor do Western League Keynsham. None of these are a decent replacement for Bath but beggars can’t be choosers. Bath will be off our Christmas list for letting us down so badly. We had the last game against a National League standard team on purpose and lower level opposition at this stage is not really what we want.

Is the captain of the titanic not reorganising the deckchairs because he knows something we don’t?

I was hoping with a settled side and a bit more experience we could have hit the ground running but a really poor preseason’s preparation of just three games suggests we will start undercooked.

link - on the up side looks very likely the season the start. The upside of elite status being the schedule won’t be effected by restrictions being brought in on a local, regional or national basis.

I was surprised we started later than Aldershot when people were talking about them playing when our first was still a week, maybe 2 weeks?, away. But then again, we got done over for those too and they had probably organised those lower levels team(s) whereas we had EFL opposition booked.

No doubt about it the crisis is as serious as it gets for lower league football clubs. Just when you thought we were on the home run and emerging out of the fog we slide down the snake and back to square one. This second wave of infections is going to leave a devastating hole in finances for many clubs and I fear many will have to pull the plug unless there is help and cooperation from government though personally I hold out little hope that this lot will be helping out the small clubs in any meaningful way. If a new wonder drug emerges to cure this plague I doubt even if fans were allowed back in next week with unlimited numbers many would choose not to attend either through fear of infection or lost interest and lethargy. You only have to look at the average age of our fan base to realise that a large percentage would feel vulnerable attending even if strict guidelines were imposed. No simple answer to any of it - it's a waiting game and a long wait at that. Not sure if any club has had a great or well prepared pre season though we do seem to be at least couple of games short of being where we want to be in terms of preparation. Not sure about Stockport who appear to be one of the favourites after making some key signings. Wrexham, Notts County and Yeovil, all big clubs, will also be serious contenders with a few other surprise packages like Boreham Wood who have just signed a previous loanee Shaquile Coulthurst who imprssed when here and still only 25. Poromotion or competing at the top of the division would be an achievement but survival would be a bigger one for many clubs and that perhaps includes us.

Not sure I can see any upside to elite status at all. If season was allowed to continue behind closed doors I can see more than a few clubs collapsing. If too many clubs go to the wall during the season then the league surely has to be declared null and void. That I think will be the end of the National League/Conference leaving the surviving clubs (hopefully including us) to apply for membership of their respective regional leagues, but without doubt automatic promotion and relegation between the EFL and non-league will end.

If too many clubs go to the wall during the season then the league surely has to be declared null and void. That is the downside, hence why a support package is required together with clubs being able to maximise their resources in this environment. Not sure no season is an option either.....

link - several notable figures have also written to government about the precarious situation clubs in the lower elite levels of the game now find themselves in with many likely to go to the wall without some form of support. Needs to be two pronged though with the top level of the game still awash with money and only a small proportion of this needs to trickle downwards to make a big difference.

link - good to see Devon Live lead with the TUST statement on the consequences of the season not being able to start with adequate support in this very difficult situation many clubs find themselves in.
