Starting to look like that fans will not be allowed back next month  - link with the National League saying that there will be no start until fans come back where does it leave steps 1 & 2? Talk about government support and could that bridge the gap with live streaming? |

Talk about government support and could that bridge the gap with live streaming? Where indeed. The decision to press for "elite" status to let daft play-offs take place bites us on the bum. "Elite" sport with no, or next to no, "elite" TV revenue and no grass-roots crowd income. Worst of both worlds. |

Announced this morning that the proposed start for supporters from October 1st has been postponed. Not really surprised the way things are going.

A complete restructure of the game's finances needed if clubs like ours are going to survive. Football without fans is unsustainable at our level.

A certain inevitability about this decision with whats been happening of late around the country.
Watched a bit of "Hashtag utd" v Soham plenty of fans intermingling and no signs of mask wearing or rigid segregation typical of whats been happening in pubs clubs etc.
This is the price paid and I fear we could lose a few clubs when the furlough ends and clubs attempt to survive with little or no income streams.
Now is the time to ensure the live streaming service is permissible and available.
Its worked well for the friendlies and just needs a few tweaks though maybe the cost will increase for proper competitive league games.
Potentially it could be a lifeline for all clubs until the all clear is sounded.

Potentially it could be a lifeline for all clubs until the all clear is sounded. Technically streaming has proved its worth but I fear it may not be enough. I don't think we will see 2500 individuals sign up for it each match and where say a family of four might have attended a game paying for two adults and two kids, they would presumably pay just one subscription to watch the game together at home. I haven't seen anything about how this affects the non elite level of the game where limited crowds have been allowed back. As for our level I believe I read somewhere that the National League will now not begin on October 3rd because of the ban on crowds; since the covid situation is going to worsen over the winter months that surely means that the 2020/21 season will now be cancelled altogether. The future does indeed look bleak. |

Just one of many hurdles that looks daunting from our current standpoint. But let’s remember we’re in the very early stages of imposing the ‘new normal’, as we welcome all the things that the caring surveillance state is doing to keep us safe.
Just consider the direction of travel, how it might evolve, and some early possible solutions will spring readily to mind. These can of course be refined and improved once we’ve all come to accept ‘new normal’
For a start, at kick off, and at a couple of unspecified times during the game, a warning would flash on the screen, giving you 5 seconds to switch your webcam on, thereby allowing Club officials to monitor how many viewers were in the room looking at the match…. and crucially not enough time for the kids to hide behind the sofa.
It would all be factored in, and a condition of sale in return for receiving match streaming facilities, would be agreement to surprise visits during the match to see how many of you were watching. Club’s would most likely contract this task out to local Covid marshalls. A locked front door, and your contract terminated for the next 3 matches if it’s a first offence.
Initial teething problems for sure, but there’s always a way if the will is there to keep the local club alive, and as the benefits of a secure ‘new normal’ become apparent to us all.

Swings and roundabouts, with our exile base we may do better than most with streaming. If government is going to pause crowds coming back then you would hope some sort of support package can be provided so that we can play behind closed doors - Link - after measures have been announced today then National League will consult with clubs and make a decision on Thursday. |

link - Richard Hughes has a regular phone conversation with Johnson (Gary that is!) on a Tuesday and has printed his initial thoughts on the situation which can be summarised as get playing behind closed doors, live stream it with government financial support to make it all viable.....,

I'm only asking this because I can't find an answer anywhere, but how will clubs at step 3 and below be affected, will they still be able to accommodate crowds of 300?

link - quite complex issues going on with government saying that elite sports must adapt to support themselves. At the end of the day you can’t have footballers on contracts worth millions of pounds and expect to be balef out by government. I suppose the question then is how is that revenue distributed throughout the pyramid in a way that enables clubs to continue to function? link - the word coming out is that the National League will start as planned on 3 October but to be confirmed....
