All up in the air still - are we kicking off the season Saturday week or aren't we? Seems to be the information streams that were regularly coming from the club have also dried up with little or nothing regards injury updates or player progress. Little, Warren and Liam Davis come to mind, all key players - we just have no idea how long these players will be out do we? Disappointing as fans need to be kept informed to retain interest especially at times like this when many will potentially lose interest all together.
Was there a friendly match to report today?

link - bbc article on the issues with potential collapse of the league structure. PL have a meeting today but their stance is that it is the government that have stopped crowds coming in and therefore they need to pay for any support package. They haven’t really twigged how obscene the contrast between paying tens of millions of pounds for players while one decent transfer fee would sort out the lower league viability problem.

Former player Jamie Sendles-White expresses concern over possible non start to the season. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54346542No decisions and yet more dilly dallying with just a few days before the delayed start. A bloody shambles.

No decisions and yet more dilly dallying with just a few days before the delayed start. A bloody shambles. Incredibly frustrating and not sure I know where this is all heading. Can see the majority of our division wanting to carry on but not sure about the two regional leagues. Where would that leave York City for example? Two years ago and that could have been us. Only similar situation for us was 1939 - and at least crowds were allowed in then. The answer then was to rip up player contracts, and pay per play in regional competitions. Hope we don't get to that, but could be time to rip up the fixture list and redraw some kind of emergency competition for those willing and able to compete. Or maybe some funding will turn up from the government, the Premier League, Father Christmas or the Tooth Fairy. I wish I was an optimist.

link - another meeting with the National League tomorrow with the word being that Government will provide the necessary support. That would be great news and once/if the season is confirmed then lots of issues will need to be resolved in a very short space of time. From a fans’ perspective, live streaming arrangements will need to be made available and what about those with season tickets? Refund or live streaming package as per the t &c’s? With a later finish in May it is possible that limited numbers may get into Plainmoor at some point during the season so would prefer to keep my season tickets, even though with four of us in the same household would be an expensive way of watching the games....

Let's hope so. Will be interesting to see how this works if it happens. I see Macclesfield are now formally expelled, so that is one less home game. I think most people buying season tickets did appreciate we might be in this position, but chose to support the club anyway. I am more interested in still having a club to support next season than having a refund - and I am sure many feel the same. Difficult for the club to promote streaming until they are sure they have something to promote. Let's hope they can crack on very soon. Pitching the price for streaming is tough. Not sure how price sensitive streaming is compared to live games. The product is not the same, but can the club afford to drop much below match prices? I see other clubs are offering a choice of prices - which makes sense. If you think streaming is only worth a tenner, you can pay that but if you appreciate the need to pay full price to keep the club alive you can do that.

BBC news at ten sounded positive about government support for the National League. Nice feature on Stockport County!
Seems Football League is looking to the Premier League with no positive news so far on that front.

Let's get the show on the road. The Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport will be permitting taxpayer funded football. What better way to kick off our new season in the DCMS National League than with a home win against Stockport. Boris's Bolshevik's bring football to the people .... even if they do have to keep the people at a safe distance so that they can't actually see it

A welcome but temporary reprieve for NL clubs. Not open ended just a financial crutch with some clubs sure to be still teetering on the brink. Anyway it looks like a proper competitive match will finally be played at Plainmoor for the first time in seven months.
No news on streaming or if we are actually permitted to stream with BT holding the cards on that one - or have I missed something? In any case torrential rain is forecast for all of Saturday so would prefer to be sat at home watching in the dry to be honest. Not convinced we are properly prepared in what has, predictably, been a disjointed pre-season with GJ not once able to field what he believes to be his strongest lineup but then again Im only guessing with no home report or line up on the friendly v Exeter. Did any of the formerly reported injured players take any part? Stockport seem to be one of the tips for promotion and looking at who they have signed I'm not surprised. This will be a tough opening test for us played in what looks like a day of appalling weather.

Decimation of historic clubs is in no one’s interests.

Absolutely - trouble is the incompetence of this Government is slowly decimating the country.

Why Alpine has to continually try and convince us all of his anti socialist pro right wing bias and politicising on a football forum is beyond me. The world is in enough turmoil as it is and its not a joke any more with democracies under threat. Talk football not bloody politics - not interested even with a wink smiley.

Whether there was to be any football this weekend, was dependent on a political decision. It's a vastly different scenario to the start of past seasons.
After my post, rjdgull provides two links, one with 'government' in the title, and the other with 'Johnson'. But not even a hint of politics in those links or their content ? It's a fact that the football would almost definitely not be going ahead without taxpayer funding. It's not an argument for Right Wing or Left Wing causes, it's a simple statement of fact .... so why the reticence in acknowledging it ?
But as you're so quick to join in Pete, inform me what you think rjd is actually labelling 'rubbish' ? I've written 3 lines. In the first I say the the cost of the football games given the go ahead will be covered by the taxpayer. If you don't agree tell me why, don't just shout 'rubbish'.
In the second line I say that the best way to start the season would be with a win. If you or rjd don't agree, just explain why, as 'rubbish' gives no clue.
In the third line I indicate that the Government now provides the financial means for the game to be played, while also imposing the restrictions that stop us going along to watch it. Again, just take a minute to say why you don't agree rather than just rant 'rubbish'. Rjd's talk of percentages and decimation of historic clubs are separate issues which I'd probably have no disagreement with him on, and in no way invalidate anything I've said let alone make clear what he thinks is 'rubbish' !
And incidentally, opinions expressed that Government should lean on the Premier League to provide money to clubs in other leagues is a political point and a political opinion. Of course no one objects or says keep politics out then do they. I mention the taxpayer funded reality without indicating a pro or anti position on it, and that's introducing politics.
Lets have a clear explanation on who can say what, who can link to what, because it's crystal clear that there's a desire to apply the criteria selectively.
Plus it wouldn't hurt to consider that the info gleaned from a radio interview at 8am, and the good news rushed to this Forum for the benefit of readers, is not going to have the detail on percentages of funding etc that might be in the public realm 4 hours later. So why not delete all earlier posts as 'rubbish' as new updated information comes on stream ?
Robs link posted 5 hours ago, and put up soon after my post, provided a link last updated 59 minutes ago. It has more and different information to what Rob gave us to read 5 hours ago. Can we justifiably shout 'rubbish' at him for the scant or lack of information it contained at 10am ? Those piling into the lunchtime 'rubbish' chorus needs to take this into account. It's an evolving picture which will probably be fleshed out further as the day goes on.
