Time to resurrect this thread with the conventions now starting in the States. I don't know about anyone else, but I am glued to the CNN news programme well into the small hours every night. Of course, I can do that as I am 74 years old and don't have to get up for work, or anything, in the morning.
Could we perhaps start with what appears to be the general theme tonight? Biden is a decent man, Trump is not. Does that matter? I certainly think so.

Biden is just another cardboard cutout in a long line of cardboard cutouts...Trump isn’t. Obama is now slagging off Trump, and one of the things he is saying is that Trump is lazy...this comes from a man who spent his entire tenure in the Whitehouse on the golf course! Trump stated this week that God spoke to him, which of course he didn’t, but how many millions of votes will he get on the strength of that? Trump is a leader...Biden is just a follower. Were you ever in a Special Forces unit Stewart, because anybody that can sit and watch that American rubbish all night, must be a very tough guy.  |

Those are the qualities of a boorish dictator, not a leader who cares about, and does his best for, his citizens. By laughably contradicting the findings of his medical experts, if he has led his country into anything, it is hundreds of unnecessary deaths and an economic disaster, which he is happy to overlook as long as he is re-elected. Barack Obama was spot on in everything he said last night, and the American people will get exactly what they deserve if they vote Trump in again. |

I've just watched the whole of Joe Biden's speech. Very impressive, obviously written entirely by himself and perfectly delivered.
(Footnote to Register: you don't have to have been in a special forces unit, or be a very tough guy, when you suffer from extreme insomnia, as I do).
I'm now really looking forward to watching Trump, head down, trying to read notes written by his aides and stumbling over that. What on earth he will be able to find to say is anybody's guess. Undoubtedly "Sleepy Joe" and how he (Trump) has made the virus disappear will be part of it. Then, of course, he will say that if he loses then the voting must have been rigged!
The American public have surely had enough of his bluster and lies and also his undignified whining on twitter.

Great song, I liked it when you first posted it. I think it was about the time that the Iranians were grabbing those tankers in the Gulf...or wherever. A sticky situation, and what did Trump do about it...nothing! Can you imagine what would have happened if Bush and Blair had been in power! They’d have been rubbing their hands together thinking about all that oil... and money! Then those people who have the weird conspiracy theories would be correct...the World would indeed be flat! |

I must admit I have enjoyed the resurrection of this thread, reading about Stewart and the Special Forces, watching Rob come and agree with the other person, whether he actually does or not...always amuses me that! Sadly, as in all aspects of life there must be a winner and a loser. Foolishly, I used my Trump Card (oh stop it Reg, if you keep laughing your Piles will pop out again) far too early in the debate, and Stewart has realised his mistake and is now Rooting (thought I’d add an Americanism there) for Trump! |

Decided to watch a couple of hours of the Republican Convention, and so far it's been a series of paid actors reading lies on autocues.
"President Trump's prompt action when the coronavirus appeared saved millions of lives". Really? By suggesting that they inject disinfectant, then saying that the virus will soon disappear on its own?
"President Trump has restored order on our streets through our fine police forces". Really? By having them murder people like George Floyd and shooting Jacob Blake seven times in the back?
As for the couple who threatened peaceful BLM protesters with guns and called them criminals and terrorists, words fail me.
I've had enough, I'm starting to feel sick.

It gets worse and worse over there.
Trump has said, and believes, that:
The virus was never any worse than normal flu and is now under control, so people should go about their daily business without worrying about masks or social distancing.
The police force are not systemically racist and he has seen no signs of any brutality. People demonstrating on behalf of BLM are looters, arsonists and thugs.
Soldiers who lose their lives or are captured during conflicts are losers and suckers.
The fires currently raging along the West coast are not down to climate change, but because of forest mismanagement.
It really does make you wonder about the mentality of Americans who are intent on voting him back into office, no matter how many lies he tells.

So let’s break that down a bit: Trump thinks the virus is like flu and wants people to get on with their lives-Boris has put a six person thingy in place which 90% of the country thinks is a load of bollocks. I’d even go as far as to say most people think the virus is no worse than flu! The police are racist and brutal-what you don’t see is the other side of the coin, the police getting all the shite on a daily basis. My good lady’s late husband was in the Met...I’ll give you some of his stories when I’m not putting bitumen on the kitchen roof. Most of the clips you see of the BLIMP protesters, are of them looting, burning or kicking the shite out of someone. Maybe trump is a follower of Japanese traditions when he talks about soldiers. Wasn’t the fire on the west coast started by someone doing one of these “gender reveal” things? Don’t worry though Stewart, Rob will be along shortly to agree with everything you say. 🤙🤙 |
