Rob
If only there were some means of enabling the others to have a voice, rather than it being left in the hands of millionaires, who, as Rob rightly points out, will still be millionaires whether or not the UK remains a member of the E.U
So let’s take a look at what exactly it is about this specific issue of the EU that the ‘others’ have been griping about.
Well you listen to the radio news programmes this morning and it’s the boss of the CBI holding forth on why the multinationals want open borders and cheap labour and protectionism, and lots of regulation to prevent competitors coming along and threatening them.
You’ll might forget to notice that Joe Bloggs from Hartlepool wasn’t and never has been asked his opinion by the BBC or anyone else.
Well never mind Joe, I expect the Eurocrats in Brussels give you a fair hearing, rather than serving the wishes of the cash laden globalists.
Let’s check with
The Guardian to see if that’s so:
Lobbying is a billion-euro industry in Brussels. According to Corporate Europe Observatory, a watchdog campaigning for greater transparency, there are at least 30,000 lobbyists in Brussels, nearly matching the 31,000 staff employed by the European commission and making it second only to Washington in the concentration of those seeking to affect legislation. Lobbyists sign a transparency register run by the parliament and the commission, though it is not mandatory. By some estimates, they influence 75% of legislation.Oops, doesn’t look like they do, does it Joe. Seems as if big business has the ear of those unelected Eurocrats….and are able to splash billions of euros for the privilege.
Hmmm, well there’s only one thing for you, and the ‘others’ like you, Joe….you’ll have to speak to your MP and tell him to vote us out of the EU.
What’s that ? You and the ‘others’ have been doing that for decades, but the MP’s are stubbornly in favour of the EU and just dismiss your complaints ?
I wonder why that is Joe ?...any ideas ?
You think that today’s politicians hope to emulate the likes of Kinnock, Patten, Brittan, Mandelson etc, and eventually get a place on the EU gravy train, spend a couple of years abroad, and settle back with a gold plated EU pension for life. Or else they are on the look out for Directorship with a Merchant Bank company Or like Nick Clegg head off to work for Facebook when their parliamentary time ends.
So what you’re saying, Joe, is that these MP’s have more incentive to feather their own nests, to do the bidding of the big corporations that are safely within the EU’s protectionist fold. That ‘vested interests’ are listened to far more carefully than you or an equivalent Joe Bloggs in Doncaster ?
And that’s before we even start to consider all the millionaires such as Starmer, Cameron, George Osborne, Rees-Mogg etc.
Frankly you’re buggered, Joe. These guys have got a damned sight more influence than you. In fact if we add the influence you have together with that of Joe Bloggs in Doncaster, and Joe Bloggs in Romford, it still amounts to nothing compared to these rich guys.
Let’s face it Joe, when it comes to EU membership, your voice doesn’t even make a blip on the radar. You and the others just don’t have a voice compared to those EU loving parliamentarians and the global capitalists.
Hang on, you think you’ve come up with a radical idea that might answer Rob’s question:
‘What about the others ?’
OK Joe, but I bet it’s going to be some wildly outlandish left wing solution.
So your solution as to what to do about 'the others' is, and correct me if I’ve got this wrong, Joe, …..is to give them a voice, to ask them, but not only that, but to actually give every single one of 'the others', an equal voice and equal influence as each of those millionaires, and each of those MP’s.
Complete parity. One man one vote. Be you millionaire or ‘other’ you just get the one single vote. The ‘others’ vote has equal weight to the millionaires vote…….yes I think we get it Joe…..and your system of empowering the downtrodden ‘others’ will be titled ‘Referendum’ !!!
Oh yes, Joe...catchy title as well…..Rob will love it.
What’s that ? Not more conditions, Joe, surely ?
It’s important that the working classes don’t get mucked about by this. No lesser figure than the Prime Minister must solemnly declare to the people that it really is their decision, and what’s more the politicians will see to it that it’s implemented.
So a choice of ‘Leave’ or ‘Remain’. Once in a generation decision. No going back. And you want the Prime Minister and the Chancellor to spell out time and again…..that ‘Leave’ means we’ll be out of the Single Market and the Customs Union, etc etc.
Wow, so Leave really would mean ‘Leave’. But what about all the Labour voters up and down the country ? OK, so they should have listened to the Prime Minister, but surely the added clarity of Mr.Corbyn spelling out what Labour considered ‘Leave’ to mean is necessary…...after all we don’t want any ambiguity creeping in AFTER the Referendum do we ?
Let’s get Jezza to be crystal clear as well.
Jezza 'Choose between Remain or Leave completely'Great stuff Jezza; Remain or Leave COMPLETELY……...can’t get much clearer than that.
That sure is a proper voice you’d give 'the others', Joe. Strange thing is, I’ve a funny feeling that Rob would turn his back on the ‘others’ and refuse to listen.
