Indeed and I always thought they thought they were the top dogs in terms of the various sites. Seems to me some of the comments expose a certain lack of sensibility which decries their perceived status!

my understanding of a potential land deal is that Westlands gets Plainmoor (council-owned) & the developers get Quinta (currently used by Westlands School ) which is more suitable for higher-priced housing. I don't know the area, so can't elaborate on that. developers also get to develop Nightingale park for sporting use. So Plainmoor won't be available for purchase by the TUST. Not sure where the ACV comes in, in all of this. Perhaps that's where the hold-up is !!

I think it is incredible you want to invade the least read forum True, but then some forums are just folk posting how much they hate dislike Lee Mansell and I'm sure some blame him for the delay in building the South Devon Highway I do.

Not sure where the ACV comes in, in all of this. Perhaps that's where the hold-up is !! Yep, I heard something similar, let us speculate for now.... Westlands school is now Spires Academy, they of course hold a lease in Bristow's bench. Babbacombe school is also up there and is part of St Christopher multi academy trust, not sure who owns what but long leases can be granted on council land when schools convert to academies. Good land values are there though and may just be enough to keep everyone happy. So win for LA, if they can find alternative playing fields for Westlands and can sell land to help their cash strapped budget. So win for Spires Academy, playing field right next door to their site plus other facilities, some of which they already utilise. If a new lease is granted and the freehold is not sold maybe that won't activate ACV protection? So win for GI, they will get share of profit for Plainmoor from a minimum investment, pity for them we didn't get relegated as may have to build a bigger ground but will they build at all? So we get Nightingale Park which has been earmarked for community, sport and leisure use. Dodgy land there though. I am sure all the relevant contamination and structural assessments have been undertaken to assess impact on new building costs. I am sure a new design has been approved and independently costed. Good communication links particularly with the new station and acres of space out there but a big project. No consultation though for what would be a community project. Out of interest, where will we play while the development is undertaken - could the ground be shared with the school in the short term? Drainage would have to be improved....

If the football club were owned by fans, any property developer would have to negotiate with the club to get a fair return for their work on any land deal.
If we are stupid enough to just hand ownership of the football club to property developers, then we can hardly be surprised if they keep all the spoils to themselves. They would be perfectly entitled to do so and we would have to beg for a few crumbs from their plate.
I am sure that Gaming International can hardly believe their luck that anyone would be so gullible as to hand them all of the cards before the game starts. Like taking candy from a baby.

Many thanks to everyone who posts on this site. Hearing little from the club it is good to keep up with what is happening, albeit that much is speculation. At the risk of being naive and ill-informed may I propose a more optimistic scenario? I think many of us had reservations about the wisdom of the board in making the KN appointment. Happily we were proven wrong and the board got it exactly right. Is it possible we have all got it wrong again in questioning the motives of our prospective new owners? Is it possible the board has got it right again and the new "owners" will inject much needed investment and act in the best interests of the club we all care do much about? Wishful thinking no doubt but surely at least a possibility.Or is this a case of a drowning man grasping to straws?

Is it possible the board has got it right again and the new "owners" will inject much needed investment and act in the best interests of the club we all care do much about? Wishful thinking no doubt but surely at least a possibility.Or is this a case of a drowning man grasping to straws? I think it is becoming apparent that the takeover hinges on GI being able to undertake a development opportunity which I don't like but makes perfect sense as they don't have the club's interests at heart, just their assets. We have discussed GI's track record on this which does not inspire confidence: From the latest Gaming International Ltd accounts: The principal activity of the company is the operation of gaming and leisure facilities (including greyhound racing) and PROPERTY DEVELOPMENT. The emphasis is mine. The man behind this company Clarke Osborne has now set up a new company "Riviera Stadium Limited". Gaming International Limited was once known as Bristol Stadium PLC. Clarke Osborne was a director of Bristol Stadium PLC when Bristol Rovers could no longer afford to pay them the rent in 1986. Rovers were forced to play in exile in Bath for ten years. Osborne was Chief Executive of Bristol Stadium PLC when Eastville was sold to Ikea for £19m. There were promises that a new greyhound site would be found in Bristol - but it did not happen. I think Reading has suffered a similar fate. I am sure that the new owners will lend the football club enough money to keep those fans who don't look beyond the end of their nose happy for a couple of years. My fear is that the day will come when they will want everything they lend back plus a return on investment. They are not fans and they are not a charity. I hate to say it, but I fully believe that Dave Phillips is about to sign the club's death warrant. I have some sympathy for the current board as they were suckered in to Dean Edwards' ego trip and left holding the baby, but I cannot be an apologist for their current course of action. I don't buy this "they saved the club" and "there is no alternative" stuff. They were the first on the scene of the accident and administered CPR. They then said "Don't call an ambulance, we've got it all under control". They are now saying "We haven't got time for an ambulance, call the undertakers". The fans of this club could have saved the club given the chance - just as the fans of Newport County were given that chance. My blood boiled when the board refused to even listen to how James Mathie achieved that. My fear was that they would sell to a property developer instead .... Indeed Jon, I've done some digging. The parallels with Reading and what could happen to us are stark. Basically, they wanted to move the Greyhound/Speedway to another site (right next door). It seems Gaming International negotiated a reduced-term lease on the stadium so they could pay yearly... then they shut the club down. The thing the company was interested in was developing a super casino as part of the stadium but, once that was turned down, they just feigned interest for several years and, to this day, the sports have been in exile from Reading. www.getreading.co.uk/sport/other-sport/smallmead-stadium-set-shut-october-4250686There are lots of articles over recent years which contain sound-bites from Clarke Osbourne about how they "can't wait" to get started on the new stadium! Sadly, they don't really give a toss. I used to go to Reading Speedway on Monday evenings throughout childhood, into adulthood and attended the last meeting there in 2008. Torquay United and Reading Racers. Those were my two things. One has gone. I am worried. Here's an article in April 2013, with Clarke Osbourne quoted. www.readingspeedway.com/news.php?extend.1747And here's an article from this month regarding trying to set up a supporters trust to get speedway back into the town. www.readingspeedway.com/news.php?extend.1754And here is an interview with Clarke Osbourne for Radio Berkshire reported as transcribed in February 2013. 5 years after the gates closed and two months before the less optimistic story of April 2013 linked above. Audio available also. www.readingspeedway.com/news.php?extend.1746There are plenty of other earlier stories on pages 2 and 3 of latest news on that site, post closure, with Stadia UK representatives, mostly Clarke Osbourne, variously quoted. The doors have been closed for eight years. I try to find the positive in most things but just cannot find any here.....

n.? i have not bought season ticket. and for the record i dont trust him. nichollson contract has more lupos then second hand dartboard. just like GI. For a newcomer you hear an awful lot of things. You obviously don't like Dave Phillips. Do you know him ? I do; only from the terraces though.I would remind you that had it not been for him & a few others a year ago, all this discussion would be entirely academic because it is highly likely that we'd only just be rebuilding a team from scratch. I've bought a season ticket, & I'm hoping that I can trust him. Again, you seem to have some insider information about Nicho's contract. We await further developments to see who is right; but if you're going to keep trying to knock people down with no substantiation, you might find that people may get quite put out by your assertions.
