Is Mansell's contract up or does he have two years? 2 years, which helped swing it.

I confess, I do sometimes only skim read your posts, AJ, when I can filter out, all the right-wing rhetoric, so I must have missed it amongst the proclamations for UKIP etc Yes as I have always suspected ... not willing to read let alone consider anything you do not agree with Having re-considered the post I made before I had my Corn Flakes, I would add that I do think Hector you have said some sensible things in recent posts on the 3 different forums. I have been shocked!!

I have been shocked!! That's nice of you to say publicly, Stefano, and when you eventually do the same, and post something sensible, I will acknowledge it in the same way. All the best and be careful with those cornflakes at your age - they can easily be choked on

KEV THE UNDAUNTED !
A 'one off' return of the ever (un)popular 'Legend Watch', in order to mark the occasion of Super Kev's first game as manager of the mighty Gulls. He may be inexperienced at the management game, yet this weekend Kev was already able to emulate Jose Mourinho who also saw his side lose by a two goal margin at home. The cash was flowing in as almost two thousand turned up to welcome home one of the club's all time greats, as Nico sets about putting right some of the serious problems facing the club.
Billy Bodin and Cap'n Manse spent their weekend hitting the back of the net at Football league level, while Aaron Downes was demonstrating his inspirational captaincy as he lead his Cheltenham players to a 7-1 victory at Halifax. But we've shipped out all those players, and so it's now a case of attempting to climb out of the relegation zone with a young bunch of lads lead by Nico and Cap'n Angus.
The defence was deemed to be so badly in need of an experienced older head, that a partially fit Exodus Geohaghon was being strapped up and pushed out onto the pitch by previous Managers. The first huge benefit of bringing in Player Manager Nico was that Exodus can now concentrate on recovering from injury while Kev's defensive experience could be brought into the back line. Having watched from the stands for the recent Boreham Wood game, Kev wisely decided that on this occasion he'd learn even more about his players by working alongside them as part of the team. A valiant effort from Kev's young side wasn't quite enough to win them a point of this occasion, but the positives were there for all to see, as Kev remarked “I am pleased with the way the lads put themselves about and didn’t stop. We didn’t cave in at any point".
It had been a week of news conferences, Fans Forums, and all the usual distractions facing a newly installed manager, and all the more reason to remember that once a little normality is established and Kev's magnificent coaching skills have had some time to flourish, we will soon see the corner being turned; as Super Kev himself was quick to reassure us via renowned local journalist Dave Thomas in his post match interview: “Once they get to know me and how I want to play, we’ll be fine" link -WMN - 'Kev The Undaunted'
Let's look back on these first days of Nico's managerial reign and remember that while his first task towards gaining some points is to get his players smiling again: “We’ve got to get them smiling again, take the world off their shoulders a bit and get rid of some of the frustration they are all feeling”, if our support for legendary Kev remains undaunted, we can rely on him to also get us smiling again soon, as he gradually builds us a new and improved TUFC side.

You get forgiven for resurrecting this thread on this occasion, Joe. A nice rallying call, which got me thinking that I need to stop being so morose and start giving Kev a chance. He only had 5 days to start sorting things out for Saturday, which is a mite early to be writing him off. COYG!

A LEGEND RETIRESThe end of the 2016/17 season sees the curtain come down on one of the most legendary football careers; that of the great Cap'n Manse. Wembley and promotion hero at his current club, and as we all know, one of the all time greats at his previous club Torquay United. When Luke Young collected his Player Of The Season award on Saturday, I'm sure I wasn't the only one thinking that it was probably King Kev's inspiring tales of Cap'n Manse..... telling young Luke about the Legend's total mastery of the midfielders craft, that will have gone a long way towards inspiring Luke towards fighting back from injury, always battling away for 90 minutes while proudly wearing the yellow shirt, hoping to one day reclaim that Captain's armband and go on to have a career maybe almost as glorious as Manse achieved. Taking up a role on the Bristol Rovers coaching staff (they were never going to let such an inspirational character leave, were they ?) The Cap'n, with his vast knowledge, patience with the youngsters, and smiling encouragement, will continue to be a huge asset to Bristol Rovers. Well done, and thank you again, Cap'n Manse.

Fair play to him. He's done well since walking out on us. Hopefully he has set himself up nicely. He must have matured considerably to be trusted with that particular coaching role. Well done Lee Mansell.

Fair play to Lee after turning down our one year contract in search of a two year League contract. I guess this puts paid to him coming back

Even though Rovers were still Conference. Its impossible to rule out Mansell coming back here at some point. Recent history might suggest it's almost inevitable, although the Judas aspect of leaving to our then most local Conference rivals could stand in the way.

Judas, I'd forgotten that Rob... I didn't like the way he departed but I'm not a dweller, and you can't turn the clock back. If it did transpire that he may come back, I think the only criterion to be applied is whether his return would improve the club in anyway. Agreed. I'll take a useful Judas.

Mansell a legend ? Sorry, not for me. You would have to go back to the 1950s and 1960s to find any of those, players who made a difference and stand out in the memory, players such as Sam Collins, Don Mills, Colin Bettany, Tom Northcott Robin Stubbs, John Bond and John Smith, plus Mark Loram and Paul Dobson from the 1980s. Mansell, on the other hand, was full of effort and endeavour, but never contributed any of the quality of these players, in fact in the majority of the games in which I saw him play, he did nothing more than run around like a headless chicken.

I think there are players like Alex Russell and Rodney Jack, of the more modern era, who I think can qualify as legends, even though it is a widely overused term, these days.
