As so often happens, the truth invariably starts to seep out, and that's now beginning to occur in Gloucestershire in the aftermath of the short but catastrophic reign of our former legend PB. Those who questioned why Bucks should be stopped from dragging Cheltenham headlong down the table after only 79 days, will have had a further answer to their question today, with the back page of the Gloucestershire Echo having the banner headline: 'CHELTENHAM TOWN PLAYERS ARE NO LONGER DREADING TURNING UP FOR TRAINING'. So what are you telling us, AJ? Sounds like the Quat Goose Lane rebellion to me.

May I be the first to congratulate Manse and Rovers for being top of the league?

May I be the first to congratulate Manse and Rovers for being top of the league? You'll probably not be the last, so yeah, why not fill yer boots. Here seems as good a place as any for Judas adulation whether it gets on people's t*ts or not. Picked up another booking and lucky not to be sent off, I heard. His central midfield partner must be a shoe-in for Conference player of the season etc...

CAPTAIN ON TOP!
Let's hope it won't be long before Cap'n Manse is passing on congratulations to his old club on reaching a Wembley final. We've a tricky 2nd leg of the semi yet to play, but Manse's successor may yet be holding a trophy aloft this season.
Contrasting fortunes for our old friends last night. Six hundred turning up to watch Kev play; six thousand to see Manse. In the North East they preferred Neymar to Nicholson as only 620 hardy souls ventured out to witness Gateshead's 2-0 home win. Given Harriers difficulty in finding the back of the net, it is starting to look as if even a play off place will elude Kev this season.
Coming South to Bristol, and 6,471 opted to give Messi a miss, preferring to go out on a cold February evening to pay to watch Cap'n Manse display his skills. A fourth straight win as The Captain powered his way to the top of the League.

Barton Downs
Some definite similarities with Seale Hayne, but also enough important differences to suggest that Cheltenham can recover from those 79 days of legendary management and avoid relegation. Although Alan Knill didn't exactly hit the ground running when he arrived at Plainmoor, in the eyes of many he did at least take enough occasional steps in the right direction to help keep us up that season. In contrast Bucks appeared to be selecting reverse gear within days of getting his feet under the table at Whaddon Road.
In late 2013,when Nico and Manse were spearheading the popular uprising, it struggled to get off the ground because it wasn't, errr, particularly popular. There was still a significant minority of Knillists among the TUFC support, and they've never been properly purged. Even to this day it's not impossible to spot the odd one popping up to bemoan: 'If only we'd given Alan more money'.
The rebellion against Bucks in Cheltenham was like a wildfire in comparison. In no time Bucks had managed to unite the playing staff, the club, it's supporters, the local press, and what appeared to be like the whole town against him. Bucks ability in being able to unify the whole community in striving for his removal could be the vital ingredient that can save them.
(above) Uniting the town....PB style !
Removing a manager after 79 days is highly unusual and very expensive. Not an action the Cheltenham chairman would have taken without the assurance that wherever he turned there was full backing for such an action. Now it's a matter of building on that unity of purpose in order to retain The Robins league status.
As a strong Tory Town, even the pre-school kids are taught to recite the famous words of Maggie & St.Francis:
"Where there is discord, may we bring harmony. Where there is error, may we bring truth. Where there is doubt, may we bring faith. And where there is despair, may we bring hope."
Having sent the cause of the discord, error, doubt, and despair back to the United States, the club can go about mending itself and staving off relegation.
Unsurprisingly, they've adapted a more up-to-date Tory mantra to signify the post Buckle era of unity:
'What started as words on social media has become Cheltenham Town’s mantra and Matt Richards insists that there are more than words to the notion of being “all in it together”.
Since fan favourite Russell Milton took charge of the toxic embers of Paul Buckle’s regime the focus has been on building a sense of togetherness and team spirit in the camp again.
Fans, players and staff have taken to twitter using the hashtag #allinittogether, when talking about the fresh start and improved mood under the new boss.
And Richards believes than there are more than just words to that mantra – he insists that the club is now a completely different place to that of the divided and miserable Buckle regime'.

Someone had better tell their electorate, as they've had a LibDem MP for over 20 years now. It was Mansell's Gloucester that went back to Blue in 2010. The Judas.

Vote rigging, and the sympathy vote for the last 15 years. With such sharp incisive analysis we can only look forward to Alpine Joe's General Election Guide.

I see Mansell was left out and Darrell Clarke is talking in the Bristol Post of getting replacements for the run-in, alpine.

Good thinking by Manse, get the bookings out of the way, leaving him ready to lead the Play Off charge, unless they go up as champions.

Just wondered why alpine's gone quiet on this one. At least a bad word about Judas has perked up chelston's interest in the thread again.

True, but the thread and Judas etc has now (IMO) run it's course

NICO/FLORIDA ALLIANCE
With the league season rapidly drawing to a close, those clamouring to see the final curtain brought down on the 'Legends' thread won't have long to wait. But wouldn't it be nice to finish with photos of Cap'n Manse celebrating a championship win, or savouring play-off victory at Wembley ? Unfortunately at TUFC this season, Chris's young team, who appropriately enough are on 'pocket money' wages, couldn't manage to sustain their excellent start to the season and so we'll wait to see what next season brings. Will the club have to be shrunk to a size that can be sustained by new owners of restricted financial means, or will there be funds available so that a realistic promotion challenge can be made ?
Well, it's not always dependent on the amount of cash you can splash on the team, just as the ability of a Manager can't reliably be judged by the number of coaching qualifications he's acquired.
"Come and see my coaching certificates - they're called the European Cup and league championships" - Cloughie probably hadn't attended too many F.A coaching courses, but his ability to do the job in an effective an successful way didn't take long to establish. As soon as the coaching badges question was raised in this thread back in early February, Floridagull was quick to remind us of Cloughie's answer to that one.
When Radio Devon broadcast an interview with Nico during the half time interval on Tuesday night, our legendary left back had only just started outlining his future hopes for a career in football management when he was asked 'where's yer certificates ?', and while Nico is well along the way to completing the necessary coaching badges, he was quick to point out that F.A badges are not 'the be all and end all' when it comes to making a success of managing a football club:
"I've learnt a lot - a lot of good and a lot of bad - and I think experience and how you use that is a lot more important that badges to be honest"
Nico's Management Dream
Ably assisted by Cap'n Manse who would take the majority of training sessions, the Nicholson/Mansell combination surely has the potential to follow Clough & Taylor into the history books as one of the great management duos. I'm certain both Nico and Manse both intend to pull their boots on for at least one more season as players, but a little further down the line, who's to say that those legendary playing careers won't be followed by them earning equally legendary recognition in football club management ?

Alpine Joe is nothing but resilient.
You wonder if he should have been given that Lazarus shirt rather than one of his "legends".
