Normal service resumed.
1-0 to the Torquay boys.
This formation is good, isn't it?

Jon Deliberate attempts such as that to aggravate & further inflame our Dark Agers or 'Questioners' as they prefer to label themselves will do nothing for TFF unity While some are interpreting Martin Lings decision to single out our lone front man Rene Howe for special praise after the Crawley game as being his way of saying 'piffle, twaddle & bollocks' to the 'Questioners' it just has to be accepted that they will never be happy unless there are 2 or preferrably 3 members of the team spending the entire match 'up front'. We've got to be inclusive & the solution could be to show re-runs of old Buckle matches on a big screen in Boots & Laces in the hours leading up to a game. Neither are we the only Club with a section of fans grabbing the hands of the clock in a desperate attempt to wrench them backwards. I read today that Bradford City boss Phil Parkinson has been reponding to his own Dark Agers who follow the Bantams. 'Parkinson has been criticised by some fans for the 4-4-1-1 approach he has used in recent games. ' reports the Bradford local rag. Parkinson added: “Look across the country now and teams very rarely leave two strikers at the top of the pitch. “Even if it’s two recognised strikers, one of them will drop in defensively to tighten up the midfield. That’s all levels and every team. “If supporters watch games on TV, they might have seen Alan Pardew talking after Newcastle went to Tottenham and lost 5-0. He had Cisse and Demba Ba up front and it was too open. “You see teams at our level and one striker will drop back in. Southend do it a lot and Cheltenham have played that way all season and had a lot of success. www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/sport/9570836.Bradford_City_boss_Parkinson_goes_on_the_offensive_over_tactics/r/?ref=rssWhatever the system used I expected us to fall away much more than we have done as a consequence of losing Bodin. Too expensive to buy & finding a replacement with all Billy's qualities who is not being used by his Club & who wants to come to Torquay on loan is one hell of a task. The solution of course could be to set your team up in the way advocated by the 'Questioners', but for the moment at least it seems that Ling, Parkinson & others will continue turning a deaf ear to their pleas.

I agree that it would be a dull forum without difference of opinion, but it is the plethora of forum members who seem to know so much more than Martin Ling and his team, and no coincidence that the same culprits knew so much more than Paul Buckle and his team, that are the reason I'm no longer a regular on here. Stewart grew up watching Eric Webber's teams winning games 8-3 and enjoyed that more than he does the current team. Jon, thanks for your appreciation of the different ways in which supporters have viewed the team's performances throughout several decades. However, despite all the undoubted success which Martin Ling has gained this season with what I consider to be defence-based and cautious tactics, there is one thing which cannot be denied. The 8-3, 6-2, 5-0 etc. results from the 1960s guaranteed that the game was won long before the end, and we were mostly spared the nerve-wracking, scrappy and hang-on-for-dear-life 1-0 wins which are so common now. In those days, a team with better players won matches, in the modern era one with better tactics seems to prevail. Perhaps it's a debate which will never have a satisfactory conclusion ?
