What a fantastic result. I know it's only the first game from 8 in a tough month but it breathes confidence back into the team and fans. The perfect place to bounce back.
BTW, can we knock this whingers thing on the head? James and Rags, there arn't any. It's a myth perpetuated by the bedwetting Buckle lovers cos they can't get over being wrong.

Maybe, CG, but the fans who have (and I quote) "concerns about formations, playing style, signings, lack of signings etc etc" are not trained in professional football. No more comments or observations from me then.

I don't think most neutrals would have looking at the pre match odds. A draw would have been a fairer outcome today, but sod fair. McDonald looked surprisingly composed for a young debutant. Feel very assured we have him as cover. Nice work Lingy. The stand out thing about today was the state of their pitch, which from a distance looked very much the reason why the unchallenged Stevens went down with what I would guess as an ankle injury, possibly knee. It didn't look good. Great clumps of turf were ripped out every time there was any sort of challenge. Ryan Jarvis, Danny's replacement (He went right and Morris switched to left) looked ok. Didn't do anything wrong. Didn't excite either. Work in progress. They were cheats, but we all know that anyway. Their number 7 being the main culprit, but thankfully his diving was being ignored in the second half from a poor ref who gave them everything in the first half, including a ridiculous yellow card for Oastler. Bobby collected everything against a surprisingly toothless Crawley attack, who were second best to Ellis and McDonald all game. Their best spell was at the beginning of the second half when our midfield looked worryingly as if it may be overrun by the Torres injected Crawley midfield. But we rallied and from about 60 mins, the sides looked evenly matched and it seemed things would peter out to a stalemate. Not to be. Cool finish from Eunan on the rebound central to the goal from the edge of the area. Olejnik 8 Oastler 7.5 Ellis 8 McDonald 7.5 Nico 7 Jarvis 7 Lathrope 7.5 O'Kane 8 (MoM) Mansell 8 Morris 6.5 Howe 7.5 (Clever effort with keeper off line early in second half) Think Rob has summed the match up rather nicely. The only change I would make to his obsevations would be to give Ellis a 9.5. I thought he was absolutely immense! Best Evans chant of the day (albeit sung by only one person) 'You're just a fat Bobby Davro' Wonderful! ;D

Thought the BBC League Show game coverage was poor - generally there was excitement about Oxford, Cheltenham and Southend and mentions that Gillingham are moving up but very little on TQ. The match footage didn't really show much and failed to even mention the poor pitch or injury to Danny. The only positive from this I suppose is that we are being treated as underdogs and we are not seen as contenders and and the up side of this is that every dog has its day! If we can get through March with perfromances and results like yesterday's then I am happy if we do not have too many plaudits!! Is Evans the love child of Ossie O - does he wear eye liner?

Not sure we get many 'whingers' on here - possibly fans who may have concerns about formations, playing style, signings, lack of signings etc etc. It would be a dull forum otherwise shirley? Maybe, CG, but the fans who have (and I quote) "concerns about formations, playing style, signings, lack of signings etc etc" are not trained in professional football. Martin Ling is, as is Shaun Taylor. Their decisions, so far this season, have been criticised, ridiculed and second-guessed on this forum; yet Martin Ling's decisions have turned out to be the right ones. I agree that it would be a dull forum without difference of opinion, but it is the plethora of forum members who seem to know so much more than Martin Ling and his team, and no coincidence that the same culprits knew so much more than Paul Buckle and his team, that are the reason I'm no longer a regular on here. Unless any player, especially any player signed since June 2011, scores a hat-trick, saves a penalty or clears five off the line in a 10-minute spell (okay I might be exaggerating) they are judged as not being good enough, lacking in quality, not as good as [name of favourite]. None of this is objective, it is all subjective. Subjective is fine if its constructive, but not when its self-rightous, unfounded, myopic, innacurate rubbish that is spouted either to gain some bizarre status on this site or to demean one of the players of OUR club who we are meant to be supporting. We're in 5th place, for goodness sakes, 8 points clear of the table position that misses out on the play offs. Honestly, how can there be anything negative to say about this season; the season that was supposed to be about rebuilding?! I might not have had my required intake of pops and spinneys this week... Have to say a very good post and well put. In the Half Moon before the game yesterday myself and many travelling fans spoke about not getting another point this season. Most of us still felt that this would still have been a fantastic season but what would have been the reaction on here?? We are far exceeding any real expectations whilst keeping a strict eye on the spending. All this whilst not being able to attract any extra supporters into our ground. I think everything has been said about ML and his small squad these last few months and it has been an admirable effort. Through thick and thin................COYY

Honestly, how can there be anything negative to say about this season; the season that was supposed to be about rebuilding?! I might not have had my required intake of pops and spinneys this week... Since when has anyone needed to have been trained in professional football to hold an opinion on any subject relating to the club they support? This is a forum Rags and one that has always felt each and every member has a right to have an opinion and they certainly are not required to hold any qualifications to do so. People pay to watch games and if they felt the manager played the wrong formation or made the wrong substitution then what is wrong with them posting those options on a forum. If you feel that member has got things wrong then you debate the reasons you feel he or she has, that is how debate works and the way it should only work. Gone are the days on the TFF when we had one or two posters who believed no one else other than them could be right or have enough knowledge to hold any viewpoints. Gone are the days of members being put down and their views rubbished and the poster also being subjected to what was no more than bulling and personal abuse. Yes the TFF may be a bit quieter these days but at least now members can post without fear or ridicule or personal abuse. Forums have always had members who see the glass half full and members who see it half empty, that’s just how it is and it all comes down in the end to the person’s nature. Some people are generally very positive people and some very negative. Yes those very negative members can wear us all down at times and even more so when they never give praise where it’s due. The day anyone needs to have been a player, manager or director to hold an opinion is the day there would be no need for forums to exist. Even managers have in the past put their hands up after a game and said they got the tactics, formations or substitutions all wrong, so they don’t always get it right despite all their so called training. I can’t think of anyone on here who fits the bill as far as what you are claiming, are you sure you are not getting your forums mixed up? I would agree looking at the whole picture there really is not too much the fans should find to moan or complain about, but you and I both know there will always be people who are never happy no matter what. But as far as I’m concerned they should still have the opportunity to have a voice and post their views, as I have said many times its those views that should be attacked and not the person themselves. Big well done to the team yesterday, wins over such sides really are sweet and should be savoured for a long time.

No more comments or observations from me then. LOL! It's OK Phil, you have been right all these years, the TFF does what it says on the tin - a forum for fans of TUFC. Maybe, CG, but the fans who have (and I quote) "concerns about formations, playing style, signings, lack of signings etc etc" are not trained in professional football. I think everything has been said about ML and his small squad these last few months and it has been an admirable effort. Through thick and thin................COYY What is all this about the TFF being a negative forum? I read every post on here and the positives outweigh the negatives by a long long way. The recent debate about getting in loan signings has really been a storm in a tea cup. To argue for this to replace the two players we lost from a small squad, something the manager publically stated he would do and once he had got them in, has now played them is not exactly being negative! I think of myself as a "rose tinter" and was one of the few who predicted a top three finish this season. However, although I agree with Longy to an extent that the current point tally represents a superb job done by the manager that has met all expectations, now that we are here, it is in the nature of sport to try and hammer that advantage home - at our current rate, we would end up on 82 points, not something we normally achieve at the end of a season and I'm sure everyone at the club would like to see us there or thereabouts. Of course, everyone has an opinion as to how to get there and there is not necessarily a right or wrong answer but at the end of the day, only one opinion counts and ultimately it is in Ling we trust. decided to go yesterday at the last moment, why?because its so typical of us to have a blip against sides we expect to beat then turn over a bigger gun,and yesterday we proved that point.A brilliant result, earned by hardwork, resillience and taking a chance offered. It wasnt pretty,it wasnt exactly high in entertainment, but as we reach the run in,it is now results that count,1-0 to us,thats all that matters now.The look on evans face as he shook lingys hand at the end and stomped off down the tunnel, priceless and worth the admission money alone

According to Sky Sport News: "TORQUAY winger Danny Stevens has been sent to Hospital for scan after suffering leg injuries at Crawley which could keep him out for the rest of the season" Lingy: www.torquayunited.com/page/InjuryNews/0,,10445~2632763,00.html <<EDIT>> Wonder who he'll get in on loan?

Gutted for Danny who most definitely has proved his doubters wrong. He just need someone to have faith in him and play him consistently. He must be as pleased as any in the squad that we have a manager who fully understands his playing position and ability. Unfortunately we have now lost what little pace and trickery we have going forward unless the inexperienced Craig can fill the role which maybe asking to much so we may well have to dip into the loan market once again.

Yep I'm sure we will enter the loan market once again now it looks like Danny may be out long term.
I was hoping we would anyway, before this current injury, we're desperately short of pace - i think Craig is more of an old fashioned left midfield than a winger who will run at people and Macklin seems well out of favour again.

I agree that it would be a dull forum without difference of opinion, but it is the plethora of forum members who seem to know so much more than Martin Ling and his team, and no coincidence that the same culprits knew so much more than Paul Buckle and his team, that are the reason I'm no longer a regular on here. I haven't really seen any of that on here. Someone (well, he is a miserable old git by nature) was getting a little impatient over signing a new striker, but Ling had said that he would replace Bodin once we got within three months of the play-off final. He then brought in Jarvis as expected. The reaction to Jarvis has been good with people accepting that taking on a player yet to realise his potential is a sensible strategy for a club in our financial position. There has been no "If he isn't good enough for Walsall, he isn't good enough for us", no "Look at his record - he couldn't score in a brothel", no "Why don't we spend the money we got for Robertson / Zebroski / Benyon / David Graham / Ralph Birkett?", no "If we spend £100k on a striker that will guarantee promotion, which will guarantee an extra 2,000 on the gates which will more than pay the fee". There has been a bit of discussion on formations, but nobody claiming to know more than the boss - just people expressing personal preferences. Stewart grew up watching Eric Webber's teams winning games 8-3 and enjoyed that more than he does the current team. I grew up getting excited if a Malcolm Musgrove team so much as won a corner, so find Ling's team quite attractive to watch in comparison. Chelston grew up in the days when every team played 2-3-5 and gets confused by anything else. Jamesb grew up not really knowing where computer simulations end and the real world begins and thinks of football like a game of chess. I am pretty much half way between the two - both in age and in my view on the importance of tactics. Players performing win games, players not performing lose games. I don't believe there is a "magic formula" that will beat all others. But I am fascinated by shape and have the right to discuss it on a forum - even if I don't know as much as an expert. I believe that a team that knows its shape, keeps its shape and is comfortable with its shape (whatever shape that may be) has a big advantage over a team that doesn't know its shape, doesn't keep its shape or isn't comfortable with its shape. But what the hell do I know? My view is that Ling and his management team have done a great job this season. But again, what do I know about football?
