Mr.W
Very much a last resort for our politicians I would have thought Mr.W. Unlike the more mature protester pictured in Germany, a huge proportion of our young rioters & looters are aged 14-16.
Don't forget women make up more than 50% of the electorate these days. Whoever wins Mumsnet wins the election. Just imagine if a few of these kids had their eyes taken out by water cannon...the country's women would be in uproar, demanding the practice was stopped immediately and an army of social workers sent in instead.
Just leave things to Theresa...she's already told these naughty boys & girls that their behaviour won't be tolerated...I'm sure that once they've gathered together as many iphones, trainers & plasma TVs as they require they'll eventually listen to her.
Personally I reckon it's just a trial run for mugging all those rich foreign tourists over here for the Olympics next Summer.

Some would argue that "if their good enough then their old enough" , good enough probably being the wrong way of putting it but it`s a term often heard in the football world, the principal still holds in my view with these criminals if their up for it and responsible for it then they bloody well should be treated accordingly, not given a pat on the head and told to go home like good little boys and girls!

As the media hold their collective breathe for tonight's activities to commence, some good points raised by Mr W there, possibly several essays worth!
A lot of analysis is going on and listening to radio 5, people are looking at who is doing this and why? The police seem to think that the demographics are changing with the 14-17 age group on Sunday night being replaced by older scumbags that are interested in the looting element and loading up their cars! Of the 500 or so people arrested they age from 11 through to 46. Maybe proving that a cartoon in one of today's paper was not that accurate with a couple of old ladies clutching their handbags outside a large store and one of them indignantly saying (possibly in a Monty python sort of voice) Coffee!!!! When you texted me, I thought we were going to be looting! ;D
Lots of people have different theories about the various motives, with poverty and deprivation, lack of role models, boredom and looking for kicks, racial discord and sheer thuggery and robbery opportunity listed but it being made quite clear, that this is not an excuse to indulge in this disgusting behaviour.

Oh yeah I didn`t mention that Teresa May is a complete idiot and totally out of touch with this whole situation due to the U.K having to pander to Brussels and their stupid human rights act, instead of trying to blag the entire country with wafer (said or read in a dodgy French accent) thin rhetoric she needs to be addressing the real issue and disconnect us from Europe and European laws!

In my opinion over the last three or four decades there has been a slow and steady decline in morals, respect and a fundamental disregard of our fellow human beings. It has now culminated in what we are now witnessing on the streets of our major cities. This evil "man made" virus is about to engulf and suffocate our society and we all seem powerless to stop it. It has the makings of a real life horror story and needs decisive action from government and the authorities to try and quell this fever of hatred and destruction. Not living in a big city its far to easy to throw ideas and opinions at the problem and I must admit I find it difficult to comprehend what is going through these peoples minds. To willingly destroy their own communities just doesn't make sense. No prospects whatsoever equals no values - for anything - including human life. Drug and drink culture and the ability to organise crime and violence in an instant. Inner city armed gangs were a thing you used to think you only ever thought existed in the deprived ares of the US. Well its now spread like a virulent epidemic and unless somebody conjures up a wonder antidote we are all in big trouble. I do wonder how other countries would react to such things happening in their cities. I have a daughter who lives and works in Japan and she has said that rioting in that country has never happened. The crime rate is very low, one of the lowest in the world. No litter on the streets - they all respect each other and each others property. They are courteous and respectful. Where have we as a country and culture gone wrong? There is an underclass in this country that have no future have no respect for anything and no values, we must address this. Conversely we could be living in an Arab state such as Libya or Syria were there is no democracy and the people are suppressed and put down . Now these people really do have something to protest about and are giving their lives in the thousands to try and achieve what we regard as our ideals, democracy and freedom of speech. I suppose what is happening now is the prices we pay for having such rights of freedom, free to destroy and ruin lives at will with little opposition. Its a real dilemma but given the a hypothetical choice would you go in hard as Gaddafi or Assad of Syria and get really tough. Maybe that is the answer. Would we really like to see the rivers of blood flowing through our capital? Its a very fine balancing act the authorities are playing and so tough for the front line police. The rioters are doing there utmost to provoke and would welcome an escalation in hostilities. No I think the waiting game is the right one for the time being but then I'm judging from a far and not a victim so its easy for me. That's enough waffling for now back to the footy.....

As I understood it the riots in London started when Harry Redknapp showed an interest in signing Emile Heskey, then a couple of days later it all kicked off in Birmingham because Harry changed his mind

...............Sikh lads standing guard over their temple now in Southall, and 50-70 locals marching through Enfield a la vigilante force guarding their properties and prepared to "citizens' arrest" any of the scumbag feckers they find looting or vandalising - these are interesting developments........
...........to the credit of the West Midlands Police (and as a footy fan I NEVER thought I'd be saying that!!), I am seeing a FAR more robust approach being applied by them tonight in their dealings than was displayed last night by Smokes' Plodsters - they even look the part more, well tooled up in proper-job Robocop outfits - could this be that the worm is turning at last? - whatever, it would appear that rather as the USA's was after Hurricane Katrina, the UK's dirty little urban secret of a vast, disruptive, disenchanted, disenfranchised and rancid underclass is now loud and proud across the worlds' networks for all to see.................

............not a lot to smile about these days pete mate - when I was getting me morning butty at the stall at the Tuesday Market in Gosport, Hants this AM afore my bedtime after night shift, one of the stall holders there came up with the simple solution (to him anyway), just machine gun the front row of the rioters and looters as they feckin' stand - that was it, as simple as that - they breed 'em bleddy tough in Gossy, Pompey Mush Land ya know........
........seriously, my personal opinion on this harks, I am afraid to say RIGHT back to the education system - as the teaching professions' hands are tied in so many ways nowadays with regards to disciplining classroom miscreants and the like, so the behaviour of the countries' youth has deteriorated dramatically over the last three decades.........
.......back in my day, (50 later this month btw), at Abbey Road RC Primary AND TBGS, the cane was used not recklessly, but it was certainly effective in quelling nonsense from the more w*nky element of the school brethren, and they didn't do it again, by and large - this is I feel something that should be addressed again - it is if you like nipping a potential problem in the bud, afore it blooms too much in some ways...............
......just seen an extraordinary interview with one of the feral (white) rats in Mank tonight, face covered whose every second word was "innit" it would appear and seemed to be of the opinion all he had been doing all day was robbing for money (innit), getting pissed (innit) and giving the Filth some payback (innit)............
........fuuck me, is this the sort of democracy that my 2nd cousin and other mates of mine are fighting for in the Army out in Afghanistan? - as you said before pete, God help and protect us from this breed of predatory, vicious, culturally chronic and illiterate, fecking filthy scumbag turd-brain dingalings that walk our streets now and prey on the vulnerable.................
PS:
.........love reading yours petef, Aussies' and rjds' stuff on this thread, keep it up chaps..........
PPS:
..........just seen ya man Liam Gallaghers' boutique in Mank has been looted - oh dear, how very oh dear, that IS gonna end in tears if he gets hold of 'em - I can just hear it (in broad Mank accent) - "Ehhh mate, see these eyes of yours, well mate I'm gonna make 'em shiiiiiiiiiiine".................
