[glow=Yellow,2,300]I have never been happy not having a keeper on the bench[/glow], lets be honest, we got away with It at F.G.Rovers, Sills never really got tested and the guy put the penalty wide. I found It strange that D.T who was doing the co commentary at our last match, had not even noticed that Bevan was not taking the goal kicks. If there are any concerns about Bevans fitness, then not to recall Rice In my view Is the wrong thing to do. You can only ride your luck so many times, with the run we are on, not to have cover for Bevan, could mean the run ending, just because we did not do the correct thing and that Is to recall Rice one week early. He looks like he will be recalled anyway for the cup games and as that will end his loan, he maybe back at least until January. Lets not gamble, but go into the next game with cover all over the pitch, the fans will rightly be unhappy, If not having cover cost us the three points. I used to be with you on that one Dave. I thought that with 5 named subs, not naming a sub goalie was ridiculous. HOWEVER, the idea of naming 5 out field players is growing on me, to the point of thinking it should continue as it is (with the exception of knowing that your current keeper is carrying a knock). My reasons for going with the 5 outfield players as Bucks is doing now is that one of our strongest points this year is the strength in depth of the squad. We really have a good 16 (+) at the moment who could all slot in and do the job whenever called upon, which has not always been the case. The other emerging feature is PB's increasing tactical nous. We have played a few different formations to start games and even changed this during a game to suit. Recently this has worked very well. My point is that this can be achieved better with more of a choice of outfield players on the bench, it gives PB more options. You could even argue that this flexibility and strength of the squad is actually contributing to more points than the potential of losing any if we lose a keeper again this season. Some might argue that this is likely, but i would hazard a guess (unless Jon can come up with a figure) that its unlikely we have substituted our goalie more than once a season in the last few years, i certainly don't remember any?? (That does not include the ridiculous decision to take off Nathan Abbey the other season, to try and prove some point). Like i said before the idea of having 5 outfield players on the bench is growing on me. The increased number of options this gives you, in my opinion, outweighs the chances of Sills (or Hodges) taking another turn in goal before the end of the season.

give him the mike and Off he goes just rabbiting on and on while you sit there not knowing what Is happening on the pitch. I couldn't agree more, when Dave Thomas first started doing it he was quite good and limited his contributions to summarising the action...............which is the whole point of the second person being there in my opinion. Now we have him banging on about emails from people he knows in Bovey Tracey and any other old tripe the "commentator" lets his mind wander to. The only point of a radio commentary is to be the "eyes" of the listener, but these self congratulating "personalities" seem intent only on indulging themselves proving only that they are incapable of concentrating on the matter in hand.................describing the action. Half of what they discuss should be confined to halftime and the other half to the bin. Who the hell wants to know that some nerd in his bedroom has emailed "come on you yellows"..............they'll be getting news of the length of his erection when we score the way things are going! Many people deride him, but give me Ken Furphy anytime. He has forgotten more about pro' football from the inside than any of the others would ever know. But at least he has an appreciation of what the players should or should not be doing and NEVER tries to take over commentating.

tufc01, I can see your point and yes being able to have five outfield players, would be an advantage than having only four to choose from, but at the end Of the day you can only ever put three on.
Enzo was making the point that Rice Is likely to come back next week for the cup game. With the news that Bevan could well be struggling, If he Is and Is played, we run an even bigger risk Of having to put Sills or another In goal, If we did not have Rice on the bench.
Therefore I think he should have been recalled Rice this week, If Bevan could not complete the 90 Min's and Sills lets In two late goals, after we were winning one nil, I think Bucks will come under much fire.

Dave, I know Bucks worked with Rice at City and the chances are he saw potential in him, however since he has joined us he clearly has not progressed as had hoped. He has had plenty of opportunities to prove his worth to the team and he hasn't taken them. at every opportunity Bucks has decided to bring another keeper from another club ahead of Rice. He is out in the cold, and he isn't the first player Buckle has signed that has found himself out there either.
I wasn't disagreeing with anybody with my earlier comment, my point was that it is no surprise to me that Bucks is sticking to his guns. He has made his decision about Martin and weather or not to have a keeper on the bench. you could argue that the worst case scenario has already happened and we still came away with 3 points!
By spinning the line "Rice, will be match fit when required" opens up the subject for discussion. and rightly fans will ponder weather or not he will be recalled this week? In my opinion he wont be recalled, if Buckle could help it. and therefore I am not ever expecting him on the bench.
I am hoping I have made my point a bit clearer this time, twas a long day yesterday ;D

Thanks Micky that was much clearer and a view point I fully agree with, there has to come a time when we really will have to have two proper keepers at the club and not just rely on loans and trusting to luck, should one get injured.

I've just had some nasty scowls from colleagues at work for laughing out loud (loudly) at Merse's message. Cheers mate!
Oh, and Rice on the bench for me.

I don't rate the main guy to much, making It all sound a bit too flat for my liking.

In fairness to DT he is doing a duel role - both the commentary for RD and his main job as HE reporter.....and I am sure he gets paud a damn site more to report for the paper then for the comm.

Scott DT Is a good man, but he does at times just go on a bit too much, sitting here like you I really just want to hear the action.
He has said so many times " sorry to interrupt, well the answer Is please don't.

All about opinions I suppose - I like him as he is very well informed about things going on - and there are times when he interupts as he is correcting something that has been said by the main commentator....I like him - but like I said, its all about opinions!!
