Bit of a novelty still for us down here. Torbay has now had its first dusting!
Funny how enough, it is 40 years ago this month since the Famous Westcountry Blizzard with snow on high ground around 60cm and drifts up to 6 metres. One of my first memories was walking along the hedge tops in East Devon after this deluge and disappearing into a drift - never seen more than a few inches since....

I was living in Germany then, where snow in winter is the norm, so I don't remember it. I can remember the winter of '63. That was pretty savage, although I was only 6, so my memory may not be entirely reliable. I vividly remember the winter of 62/63, when we played six home matches in a row because of a multitude of snow-covered or frozen pitches throughout the rest of the country. There were mounds of snow all around the ground, and it was so cold, but that didn't worry me at the age of 16. Despite the weather, I believe that every attendance at those matches exceeded 4,000. We missed promotion to Division 3 that season by a mere two points, thanks to a series of poor results the following March. Nevertheless, it was a season to be stored in the memory, because I doubt whether any other club has ever played six home matches in a row, for whatever reason. Another vivid memory of that winter is that there was one morning when the driver of the no. 30 bus (whatever happened to that?) decided that he could go no further than Torquay railway station, and so I walked to the grammar school through a heavy blizzard, looking like the abominable snowman when I arrived. Within half an hour, we were all told to go home again because the caterers could not get through. Walking back to Paignton was quite an experience. Happy days!!

Haven't seen snow like we have here at the moment since the aforementioned 63 winter. Having enough problems getting down the garden path, let alone Scotland! Dogs quite like it though!

I can just about remember 63 I would have been seven - deep snow, poor or non existent house insulation, metal single glazed windows that froze inside and just the kitchen Rayburn to keep you warm. The Rayburn was good for drying out my sodden lace up football though. And I still had to got to school wearing short trousers! You were lucky!

Complete chaos in Torquay yesterday and had a very eventful walk home from work in Torquay town centre yesterday. I see that there is going to be a pitch inspection at Plainmoor at 8:30 this morning and in my opinion it is very likely that the match will be cancelled.....

Regardless of pitch condition, it is not safe for Fylde to travel.
