As you can see, becasue I'm posting from home, I have failoed to get to the south West tonight. I drove to work this morning with 6 to 8 inches of snow on the ground. Throughout the morning, the weather varied between bright blue sky and blizzard conditions. Work closed the factory at 12.30 and kindly told us that we would not be paid for the afternoon Going home was interesting. The untreated industrial estate was a nightmare but once on the main road wasn't too bad. Worse than Dave's pictures but not bad for here I turned into my street which immediately drops away sharply. I steadly crawled in first gear down the hill to be confronted by an escort across the road. I just squeezed behind him but headed towards at least one foot of snow drift. I creapt through that and just got to my house. I had to dig a space to park and i doubt I'll be out anytime soon. I will try again tomorrow to get to Devon but I don't hold out much hope. If I fail then i will try again sunday as I have Monday off and have loads to do. Here are couple of pics from this afternoon

Whats going on with the weather in Devon today? Left Paignton at 5.15am in mental driving rain and sleet. Ring road very dangerous and slippery.
Loaded up van and set off but A380 closed at Penn Inn Roundabout, Haldon Hill major problems closed due to very deep snow. A38 closed. Thunder and lighting going on as well. If you are planning to go from the Bay to Exeter or beyond, don't bother and stay at home until you hear things have improved. Radio Devon have very good coverage.
I'm back at Toolfix and may try to go and do some work later.

Dave I got woken up by a massive thunder clap right on 6:00 a.m, tried to drive up the road to work and went sideways twice, stopped at the shop to get my paper and was told that Telegraph is closed, the A38 is closed, then had a text message from a work mate saying that Penn Inn is lethal. I turned around and went home, not going to risk trying to get to Heathfield, it`s not worth the risk for a days pay!

That's the best thing to do Aussie, I'm here all alone as the others don't start work until 8.30am. I have turned on the central heating here and just about to make myself a cup of coffee. I won't be going anywhere for a while that's for sure.

When and if you do, take it easy, the pedal on the right is a dangerous pedal today, so is the one in the middle!

O.k just thought you might be going mad that`s all, last time I drove through Totnes I wound the window down and yelled " SOAP " at the top of my voice and half the population ducked, I larfed my bits off!

It's just crossed my mind that the hill between Ipplepen & Litlehempston- where the road crosses the railway line- will be lethal. Kettle's on. .... and here! A38, A30, and A380, and A388 have sections closed at the moment and police advice not to travel is stronger than normal, where they normally say only travel if essential they are today saying only if critical, so basically a life or death situation. The good news is that long range forecast for Boxing Day is for temperatures to be 9C so should be no problem getting a game on. I'm pulling up the drawbridge and staying in!!
