After a long period of Australian dominance, the tide has truely turned and it now seems to be England with a number of players that can come in and do the business. Only Collingwood has not played well during this series and maybe Morgan deserves a chance to come in at six with Bell moving up one place.
The series can still be drawn so England need to be at their best again to win if they want to realise their ambiton of being number one in the world!

By rights you should be because you invented the game but alas it`s a bit like soccer init, never happen, oh yeah rugby as well! You have to dominate for long periods not just have little blips were you play well, one off`s don`t make for global dominance. We`ll be back and when we come back, well you know what happened last time, 5-0 white wash, when has England ever white washed Australia in the cricket, never that`s when, you can`t even beat our football team in what`s meant to be your best sport. You get lucky every now and again with the boot of Jonny in rugby but that`s about it, where does team GB come in the Commonwealth games? What about the Olympics? 3 times the population to select sporting folk from and you underachieve for a past time! You`ll be right up there with the Jocks next, bragging about something as important as Elephant polo or Elvis impersonators! Right that`s better, couldn`t hold it in! It was gunna come out at some point so best to get it over with! Well done ya Pommie gits, on our soil as well!

Very good. What a great song to sing. He's a talented lad is our Mitchell, but as wayward as a blindfolded Devon Malcolm. Still he can console him himself in the bosom of his rather hot girlfriend, Jessica Bratich. Apparently she's a bit of a karate champ on the quiet. After I put the kiss of death on England during the Perth test I thought I'd keep quiet until the Melbourne test was in the bag. Lets hope we can end the series with another win. The Aussie selector's choices so far have reeked of complete panic. The England selections have been spot on. Dropping your leading wicket taker (Finn) was a very good idea. He was going for far too many runs. Bresnan gives great control and helps build pressure for other bowlers. But Finn will learn a lot from this experience. He's just got to remember not to bowl too short. 3 good seamers with variation and a good spinner is a good balance to have. The pick of the Aussie bowlers have been Siddle and Harris (who would be quite at home sitting in the back of a UTE downing Tinnies). There hasn't been a spin option at all and as Melbourne proved Mitchell Johnson can't be trusted to lead the new ball attack. But the main problem for Australia has been the batting. The English top order have comprehensively outperformed the Aussie top order. As a bit of a purist I've been most impressed with Cook and Trott. Trott is an old school test batsman who refuses to give his wicket away cheaply. For the decent Aussie batting we'd had to wait for Hussey and Haddin (coming into bat at 7 is a joke for his ability). So where do Australia go from here? Well I think Ponting has to go. He doesn't offer anything in terms of leadership or strategy especially if hiss own form is in question. The problem is with that team, where is the natural succesor? I don't honestly think Michael Clarke is up to the job. Whoever it is lets hope the home crowds show a bit more backbone than the thousands upon thousands of MCG fans who streamed out of the ground with a full session to play. Not overly impressed with Aussie cricket support at the MCG.

just caught the end of Rolf Harris programme where he was playing at Glastonbury. Great rendition of "Tie me down kangeroo, sport" to the tune of "Land of Hope and Glory" would even cheer you up aussie at the time of your need

Not overly impressed with Aussie cricket support at the MCG. Are you here Chris? I agree, on day one they deserted the ship, but they have not done too badly over the course of the test. Crowds of 64,000 and 67,000 on days 2 and 3 are pretty good really. Many seats appear to empty in the afternoon as people chase the sun / shade around the ground. Take out a massive English contingent and you would still have enough to fill most English grounds. Mind you, that may say a lot for the English test ticket pricing policy other than anything else. The Aussie press and media in general has been awful, in their initial arrogance, in their treatment of England and now in their coverage of this match. They make the UK gutter press seem readable. If you are in Sydney send me a PM and I'll buy you a beer and tell you how much I am missing the BBC!

So it is finally all over and who would have predicted a resounding 3 - 1 victory to the poms! The tide of cricket supremacy showed signs of turning in 2005 but was somewhat a false dawn with a 5-0 white wash the following winter. However, the re-capture of the Ashes in 2009 has been followed by their retention in the land of Oz itself.
With England the 20/20 world champions the next summits to climb are the one day cricket world cup and a test series against test world number 1 India. Have England peaked or are they going to go on to achieve world domination as the Windies in the 80s and the Aussies in the 90,s and the greater part of the last decade?
