It works out that you should beat us at home 4 times every one hundred years, so the next time should be around 2034-2036. Good luck!

Walking into Budleigh from Exmouth this afternoon, I saw stumps in the ground and a couple of small kids playing cricket. Still only January 9th - is this a record?

Its just the sport on TV effect in action, its like when the snooker world cup is on TV, everyone wants to book a table at their local snooker hall. Its the same when Wimbledon is on the TV, every bugger wants to play tennis. I stopped watching the world mud wrestling championships for that very reason.

Yes, of course, but the sight of cricket stumps in January is still most unusual (and a good enough excuse for me to keep this thread active). The Australian Open tennis will be starting soon in Good Old Melbourne (Home of the Brave, Fearless and Outspoken) - not sure if that will lead to a rush at Oldway or Torre Abbey!

Bump!
With it so quiet on the football front my thoughts are on the summer sport and what a good few months we have to look forward to.
It was a good win at the weekend with our superior bowling swinging the result in our favour. I must admit, after we were bowled out in the second innings I went to get the lunchtime score hopeful that we had made a breakthrough of sorts only to see that they were six down and it was game over. A few talking points:
Under pressure Broad came up with one heck of a spell and at his best approaches the level of Botham, my childhood hero with the 81 Ashes making me a fan of this game for life. However, his consistency is a bit Rene like and needs to come up with the goods a bit more often.
Does anyone think that Joe Root is the real deal? Should be around the England set up for a long time and hopefully will make an impact against the old enemy!!!
Finally, many congratulations to Jimmy Anderson with over three hundred wickets - how many would he had got if the coaches hadn't mucked around with his technique?

Could be real deal, just hope we don't burn him out.....so we move on to headingley tomorrow ......should be a great atmosphere there as always....England have to much firepower for the kiwis to bother us....mind you though our top order could do with some big runs.....just over a month away to them Aussies here .........can't wait guns be a great 6 months for English cricket.......going to be at headingley on sept 6 for odi ....so if any of you fellow gulls going give a holla ....few beers and sum Aussie slating in western terrace. Pretty good warm up for the Ashes with the bowling attack looking like one of if not the best in the world.
Maybe a bit of conservative captaincy but when you are one up in a series of two then you can't let the other side have a sniff although batting on past lunch on the fourth day was maybe overkill and I think Cooky needs to trust his bowlers a bit more...
So, any thoughts on the Ashes batting line up_ Root to open if Pieterson is back or drop Bairtow or even Bell who is showing worrying signs of lack of concentration and getting out when in......

I listened to Radio 5 Voices of Summer programme last Thursday about cricket commentators for TMS over the years and still available for the following week. Worth listening just for the Brian Johnston couldn't quite get his leg over clip!

Wouldn't move root to open YET.......maybe a couple of seasons to get him settled.....kp will be ready to come in at 4......as for belly get him playing a couple county games to get his confidence back......as a surprise new opener with cook could be CHOPRA from the bears.....do like the look of him when have seen him play......would.like to see TREMLETT back in the fold to.......still have my doubts about FINN...leaks to many runs......anyway 33 days and counting to the AUSSIE DEMOLITION COMMENCES..si

Si I think we had the better bowling attack today with first blood to us. On paper it looks like a weaker Aussie team but it is not played on paper and the old enemy can never be underestimated as they don't bring bad teams.

Yeah your right rjd gull....but we have sent a warning shot over there bows....how many weak England teams have gone over there in years gone by....and the convicts have ripped us to pieces....so pay back time now.....our bowling attack does look strong like you said.....and our batsmen will come to the party to...gr anted needs a bit of tinkering in the top order...our middle order is as strong as I have ever seen it....off to Scarborough today for a day out with the boys.....roumours are rid that a 15 year old bowler playing for the Yorkes....si
