Without wishing to give the impression of sour grapes, but Australia are not much more than a one-man team IMO. Without Smith, their first innings score was 140, and their second innings was 342, giving a total of 482. England scored a total of 520 over the 2 innings. So had Smith played like the majority of his compatriots, it would have been way closer. None of which matters one jot. If we don't work out how to stop Smith, we can kiss The Ashes goodbye now.[ Agree with u Florida they are average at best,onto Anderson he was desperate to play,he knew he wasn't fit even though root saying he went through lots of tests to prove his fitness,now onto omen Ali he has to b dropped for rest of series,our batting though looks so frail at mo, the top order should have bn sorted a long time ago,as much I like Jadson Roy he should bat at 4, there's a good lad at Warwickshire called sibley who could b the answer, see the old school are blaming the after effect of the World Cup as the reason which is a load of crap,take stock and we will come back into the series I have no doubt in that, Plz England no excuses look at the weak links such as Ali mayb the lad at Somerset Dom bess who I think is on loan at Yorkshire is another option so come England lets kick some pommie ARSE lol |

Leach and Archer replacing Ali and Anderson will be the only changes. Maybe Denly, but unsure who comes in for him from the small squad.
Edit: Leach isn’t even in that small squad. I take it we add to it as and when?? Hope so. Think it was just a ‘1st Test squad’, albeit Aus named 18 in theirs.

The game is in the name and easy for the ascendancy to swing dramatically from one side to the other. Couple of early wickets and we are toast. Bat to lunch for say the loss of one wicket and it really is game on against a tiring attack and with the worst of the new ball over. |

I can't believe it, but I'm over the moon about it. What a fillip for England for the last 2 games, and what a pisser for Australia (lol). From dead and buried to flaunting it down the high street in yer best bib and tucker. Fan-bloody-tastic. Today I absolutely love being an England fan! I think that beats the 81 game at Headingley by some way. What a series this is turning out to be, If Torquay win tomorrow what a bank holiday weekend! |

Interestingly, the priority booking window for next summer's Test matches at Lord's has been open this week. Edrich Upper tickets are £140 for the front 10 rows, £130 further back; Compton Upper £130 front 16 rows, £110 further back. These are for sections fairly close to the Media Centre and behind the bowler's arm. So the side score 7 more runs than the number of pounds it will cost to watch them next summer for good seats. Glad to see the second inning going much better, but I'm still not going to fork out over £200 for a pair of tickets at the Media Centre end. And these are the unrestricted view seats. Amazingly for a stand that was designed and built in the past three years, there are seats that are restricted view in both Compton and Edrich Stands Upper section.. How can you possibly build a stand at a cricket ground where you don't have a full view of the action? |

I see James Anderson is back at number one in the test bowler rankings at the grand old age of 40! Also has a chance of getting five wickets in an innings when play resumes this evening as well. Amazingly, now looking to overtake Shane Warne’s test wicket haul, possibly during the ashes this summer.
Has test cricket ever been as exciting?
