Bury v. Torquay United Venue: Gigg Lane Date: Saturday 1st May 2010 Kick-Off: 3:00pm
Torquay are on a fantastic run at the moment with 6 wins in their last 7 games (drawing 1) and long may it continue. The question is, why we didn't do this at the start of the season?
Mustapha Carayol went off in the 77 minute with a leg injury and I hope he recovers. If i was Buckle then maybe I would risk him until the Notts game. Bury are currently in the play-off paces but are only in there by 1 point and so they`ll be really up for this to try and secure their play off place.
Paul Buckle has got it right and does deserve a lot of praise after the criticism he received from a lot of fans. He ignored it, focused on the team and when the supporters got behind the team he praised them and thanked them for our support.
Next Saturday we`ll be brimming with confidence and be definitely be up for it.
Heres a little bit of history from Bury FC:
The club was formed in 1885 following a meeting at the Swan and Cemetery Hotel, between the Bury Wesleyans and Bury Unitarians Football Clubs. Gigg Lane's first ever game took place on 12 September 1885 when Bury played a friendly match against Wigan, and won 4-3.
Bury joined the Football League Second Division in 1894, which they won at the first attempt, being undefeated at home all year, and beating Liverpool in a play-off at Stoke, to go up to the First Division. They beat Liverpool in a play-off to clinch promotion to Football League Division One. They stayed there until 1912. Bury's membership of the Football League from 1894 is now the 3rd longest ongoing run (after founders Preston North End and Notts County).
In May 2005, Bury became the first football club to score a thousand goals in each of the top four tiers of the English football league. Bury won the FA Cup in 1900 & 1903, over 100 years ago but it is quite something to have in your football clubs history.
For me this wil be a really tough game but if we take it seriously then I see a 2-1 win, if we don't take it seriously then a 2-1 win for them.

I have no doubt that this team will take it extremely seriously, but it will come down to more than that. The team will not be "on their holidays" - Bucks will make sure of that. I thought Bury showed some quality when we drew with them earlier in the season - they looked so dejected when they didn't beat us as we were holding-on. I think we'll show them that we have vastly improved and have a little bit more know-how and a whole lot more confidence.
It was interesting that Bucks said that any of the youngsters have to "earn the right to get on the bench" when asked why we didn't fill the bench (in addition to confirming that Camera has moved-on!). I absolutely agree, it sets a challenge for those players in training this week and I hope that they step-up to meet it.
We certainly have got a few wins at Gigg Lane in recent years - they've been in shakey form and will be desperate to win. It will take a disciplined performance from us - possibly without one of our recent star performers in but I'm sure that O'Kane (who I understand is one of the two unnamed players that have agreed extended deals) will provide something positive if he is called upon.

My first awaytrip of the season, really looking forward to 90 minutes of watching the Gulls in a relaxed manner. As long as we don't loose it's fine with me!
The food offer sounds great, might just pop in?

Nice one mate...sat nav postcode for the pub is M246TE. For those that are going Bury, there are 2 JDW's. Both within 200 metres of each other. They are 1 min walk from the main bus station and 5 mins from gigg lane. Dont want to Jinx anyone, but my 2 matches I have gone to this season are Rochdale and Morecambe(after the morecambe game I was gravely worried about our league status, who could have predicted the last 6 matches)...

I've already been to Gigg Lane this season and can vouch for the friendliness of the locals, albeit FC of Manchester fans. Although we did meet an FCOM official in the local pub who, when mentioned we were from Torquay, stated that one of his best mates was a Torquay fan called Dave Shaw! If anyone gets there very early and drops down into East Manchester itself try visiting the sites of two old league grounds. To start with, Hyde Road, originally home to Manchester City from 1887 until departing to Maine Road in 1923. This boundary wall may well show the original entrances, now blocked up, but I have a little more research to do after my visit a couple of months ago to be sure. And shown below is Bank Street, originally home to Manchester United from 1893 until 1910, and within sight of Manchester City's current residence. The 'footprint' of the ground is fairly visible as the boundaries are as when United played there and it is possible to work out where the stands where situated. This shows the position of the stand on the far side, still with a degree of the original banking of the stand?, looking from behind the goal at near enough the position of the corner flag. The back of this stand would’ve been up against the far fence which sits atop the banking. Note the corner of the velodrome used in the Commonwealth Games which sits just behind where the corner of the end terracing and stand are shown in the 1907 photo below. The group of players, shown in 1907 and including Charlie Roberts and Billy Meredith, would’ve been positioned just at the edge of the 'now' photo where the fence that bisects the pitch finishes and well in front of where the red & white traffic cone is just visible. The velodrome was built behind the terrace which is shown behind two top-hatted gentlemen on the left in the group. Below is a view further to the left showing the position of the near side grandstand, the lorry would've been near enough in the changing rooms under the stand. Note The City of Manchester Stadium behind. I may well enlarge this post and add it to the grounds room...

Will be making the trip up, have also cajolled my brother into coming. He has been to quite a few of our games over the years and has seen me laugh and cry at both results and performances.
Really looking forward to the game (another new ground for me and bro), and even though we're wonderfully safe for this season, i'm sure my usual nerves will be in play. Not sure if this the norm (or even sane!) for other fans but watching my team just puts me on edge and I always find myself wanting the best.
Think it will be a tough game, mainly due to two factors. 1; They are pushing to secure a playoff spot and will want to win at practically any cost. 2; We have the luxury of being able to relax and play football under relatively no pressure. The cause of many coupon busters at the bookies over the years i'm sure you'll agree. Other than that I think whatever our eleven is they will want to show they can continue to perform against these so-called "better" teams, and set themselves up for next season.
I hope we will have a good following there, but will not be too surprised/dismayed if not, as it's been a long, weary season. And the travellers have covered a lot of distance, both in miles and mentally!

The most interesting thing about this match is with Smith gone back to Spurs,Carlisle and Beavon crocked up, Muzzy with a knee injury,Thomson still in Southampton,Tyrone given his marching orders, Camara apparently never here (but he was really) how many subs will we actually have on view?

I don't tip football so the "Grand National's Best Tipper" (three winners in four years) goes for an each way oops, it's a stakes race! punt on no 3 Awzaan in the 3.05 (Two Thousand Guineas) at Newmarket ~ get on now at 10/1 Finished nowhere behind a 33/1 outsider!
