Here we go again then and really are due a win and three very nice points that will go some way to helping us move away from the relegation zone. In the days when I used to be a regular away traveller, Hereford games so often ended in boring old draws, but I feel confident we are going to win this game.
Robertson sounded to have had a much better second half up at Crewe playing back in his more central position as he is not really a right back, so will we see Rowe-Turner start in this game with Smith playing at right back?
Thompson seems to have given his better away than at home performance on Tuesday night so I expect Bucks may well stick with him and Wroe in midfield. Mansell could find himself on the bench again.
I really hope Carlisle will be fit for this game as we have badly missed him, he has in my view been our best player this season.
Its been proved Zebs plays best up front for us and will Bucks go with two up front? I would hope he does and should we be winning with 20 minutes to go, we need to keep on the front foot and not make the mistake again of dropping so deep.
Poke will start for sure, I talked with Scott last week and his making good progress toward being fully fit, but I don’t think he is 100% yet.

I must say I am looking forward to this game. It appears, from reading posts on the Crewe thread, that Wroe had a quiet game again last night and I still maintain that this is largely due to nobody nearby doing the donkey work that Greavsie used to do. I don't doubt Thompson has been playing well of late but I would really like to see a midfield pairing of Mansell and Wroe for this game, if onyl because I think Manse would get stuck in a bit more.
For me I would like to see a line up something like this:
GK Poke (even if Bevs was fully fit, in my opinion Poke is the better of the two) R/B Smith (sounded like he was better at r/b then l/b) C/B Charnock (Harsh on Robbo, but I feel, again just from reading peoples reports that Charnock is the better player) C/B Branston L/B Rowe-Turner R/m Carlisle (if not injured), if injured then Thomson C/m Wroe C/m Mansell (c) - Would make Mansell my captain, is vocal and can gee the troops up L/m Thomson (if Carlisle is fit), if not then O Kane ST Benyon ST Zebs - shown us just what he can do if he is played up front. Lets hope he keeps it up
Subs: Bevs, Thompson, Stevens, Cox, Ellis, O Kane, Nicholson

I would agree - Mansell to a central midfield holding role together with captains arm band He is hard working, and much more likely to lift the team than Wroe - may have to be a bit careful with some of the tackles though In my opinion he was never a natural right back anyway and was only there because Hargreaves took the midfield role and we didn't have a right back But what do I know - he didn't even start on Tuesday!

This is definitely a MUST NOT LOSE game. If we had held on at Crewe then a draw may have been ok but with Hereford just above us we cannot let them move to far away. As for the team I hope he doesnt start with the same defence that started on tuesday. Robertson was no good at full back in the conference and if Hereford have any pace coming down the left wing he will be no good. The call for Mansell in the middle next to Wroe is fair enough but I cannot see Bucks dropping Thompson in there so I reckon it will be: POKE COX (LB) BRANSTON CHARNOCK SMITH (RB) THOMPSON (LM) WROE THOMPSON MANSELL (RM) ZEBROSKI BENYON I, like Dave, have been to Hereford on more than one occasion ....ten to be exact and SEVEN of those have been draws Cannot be there on saturday and although its a nice day out with a trip up the Wye Valley the away end is terrible and now on the condemned list! So any of you going on saturday sit in the seats above the small terracing as its very restricted down there. Good luck to all those who are travelling there...

i have no doubt we will pose a goal threat to hereford on saturday, and will pop at least one in,its as discussed the other end that needs addressing,so no defending too deep lads, keep it simple but effective and we should get something out of the game,3 points please!!

I quite like the look of dazgull's line up. If Carlisle is still out, of course. I would like to see the wingers switch during the game (as per Crewe 1st half), which is not always possible for sustained periods if Stevens is the covering midfielder, but would be with Carlisle.
I am not convinced that Mansell would just slot back into the middle, having seen his brief cameo in front of the back 4 on Tuesday and, in any event, Thompson had another good game on the road and is deserving of his place.
I suspect Cox will probably make way for the new signing, though I am more than happy with Cox in there. In fact, I wish we'd have been successful in making him permanent as he will surely be the makeweight if we sign Ademeno on loan. There does seem to be a mixed message from the Club on this one. Was he only for temporary cover as per the Forum, or did we try everything to make it permanent.
Nicky Wroe needs to step up his performances and hopefully this will be the match. Give the armband to Wayno or Pickler, I say.
Up front - Well, there's no choice as to personnel, is there? Though Zebroski being the further forward of the 2, as per Crewe cf Barnet, looks the way forward for me.
I have a good feeling that we'll just manage to hold on to our narrow lead in this one. 2-1 to TUFC. A decent away following to boot.

In the days when I used to be a regular away traveller, Hereford games so often ended in boring old draws Nothing wrong with Dave's memory. I hope Zebs can turn it on again - he was sensational at Crewe, the best I've seen from him and he earned every penny of his fee. Am I the only one not sure about Branston ? Sure, he's a leader but Robbo wins more in the air. Despite his bulk- or maybe because of it - Guy doesn't win that many, instead he often takes man and ball or just gets in the way. I thought Tyrone was ok too- he nicked a lot of balls and broke up their play, although there were spells when they seemed to be coming at us in space in midfield. Smith is a gem - enjoy him while he's here ! I thought Jake Thomson often looked tired on Tuesday, even fed up at times, couldn't understand that, although the break during his return to Saints might have robbed him of a little match fitness. Even so he kept coming to life and was always a threat, as in the great run that set up Benyon for his volley which would have won us the match. Some tremendous battles to come - come on Gulls !

Right I inadvertantly made my prediction in the wrong room so I'll try again
I recon the Gulls can win 2-1.

wrangers thank god for that, "the team is strting to gel", phew. Forgive me, how far into this season are we? how many games left? But that's ok cos we're starting to gel! you can't make this crap up!! But as long as the sheep are happy.
22/28 winless games. 18 games to go. It's not looking good. I couldn't give a toss that we "nearly" won the last few games, we didn't and ended up with bugger all. We can nearly win our way back to the BSP but the buckle brigade will be happy in their fluffy world.
I'm not confident about this one, it's a 6 pointer and we all know buckles bottle goes in important games. Having said that, when i'm not looking forward to a game that's the one we win.

Was beginning to worry you had been lost DTG.....nice to see you back with your normal inane rant. As mentioned so many times previously the game is so much about finances and keeping within costs currently so the guy continues to work miracles. I know you still think thst when he goes Sir Alex or Jose are coming in to replace him--but I think your opinion is due to how many happy hours you attend out in the sun ;D For thse that attend the games we all know how "nearly" a lot of the games have been---its been a frustrating period for all but all you can do is continue support not give up!!! Anyway this fluffy fan will be getting in his fluffy car shortly and joining more fluffy fans for a fluffy pint before the game before supporting the Team---win/lose or draw up the Gulls!!!!

Alan, I don't know what the o.g. at Hereford was like but it sounds like you're describing the one that John Crabbe (who later went on to play for us) scored at Plainmoor in the same season (27/12/82). The funny thing is that I don't remember Crabbe hitting the ball as far as that in all his time at Plainmoor - Crabbe by name, crab by nature. Mind you, I can only remember Andy McFarlane scoring four goals in a game just the once.
