Crumbs, so many to choose from. Agree with many of the ones already mentioned, a few more......
Ice Cold in Alex A Matter of Life and Death (David Niven war movie) Battle of Britain Godfather !,2(best ) and 3 To Kill a Mocking Bird The Green Mile Saving Private Ryan Snatch
Ok, i absolutely refuse to watch any film with that overated twit Ewan McGregor in. Also all films that include Renee Zelwegger cos i just want to punch her!! Hugh Grant should be put down. And i turn from a mild mannered reasonable chap into a psychopath at the very thought of that abomination piece of crap Moulin Rouge!!

Big fan of James Cameron's Terminators, as well as Total Recall.
Love most of Hitchcock's work.
Also enjoy most of the Marx Brother's output.
But my favourite film? Withneil and I. Hilarious and poignant in equal measure.

Though it might be, TKWSN! Cracking film that one. And the Life of Brian. The Meaning of Life has its moments, but isn't in the same league as the former ones, imo.

Exorcist - Brilliant Shaun of the Dead - Makes me laugh, a lot. 28 Days Later
I quite enjoyed Rocky IV, but I'm not prepared to admit to that one...

Many choices so far and all so interesting as a window into your collective psyches. As I started this, I gonna sort out some yes and NO!s from your choices so far. Oh the Power! (who said that and what film - or have I got myself confused, again!? - more on that at he end).
YES - Green Mile (Stephen King is an incredible story teller and the film did him justice even though it came from one of jis short stories). Zulu (magnificent actors and real respect to the African tribes) The Good the Bad and the Ugly (liked all three and taken from Japanese films - and a dirt cheap budget). Blazing Saddles (pant-wettingly funny) Shawshank Redemption (King again I think) Braindead (have a few or more beers to really appreciate this - what was the name of the other NZ film like this?) Midnight Express (acting you normally only get from the stage with the Shakespearean Company). Seven (very chilling) Monty Python and the Holy Grail (a British classic already from the greatest bunch of comedians Oxford have produced other than the current Tory Party). Godfather (the best of American actors and a brilliant tale - 2 was best). Ice Cold in Alex (a different take on WWII, a bit like The Hill). Snatch (a modern take on an old British genre and a fine performance by Brad Pitt - I'd have him in a fight though! {kick im in the goolies and run like hell! The character though, I bet the actor is a right puss}). Life of Brian (how could the Church get it's knickers in a twist over this?). Saving Private Ryan (one of the best war films for cinematography).
NO! - Mamma Mia (even my Deb couldn't watch it the whole way through and she likes Pretty Woman!). The Goonies (sorry couldn't take to it - 'hey you guys'!?). Barbarella (what!?) Alfie (ooh, pants). Rocky IV (have respect for Stallone for some of his stuff such as First Blood but most of his stuff is just grabbing the cash - first Rocky was good).
And 'the Power'? Was it not Apocalypse Now, which should have been on my original list?
Anyway, we'll see what more opinions come out and I may even do a Poll on the most popular and get a vote in for the top ten (if I know how on Earth to do that; and, if I don't forget I ever started this, that is!).
cheers, Scott.

Have you seen Avatar yet? I saw it on IMAX in Bangkok a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was great for the 3D effects but as a film what a load of hippy crap! A better film in the same genre would be Dances With Wolves.
I love the old war films
D Day Dambusters Reach For the Sky
I know they gloss over the real events and jazz it up a bit but what great movies.

Have to agree with that, Avatar was an awesome cinematic experience. The 3D was out of this world, however I didn't think to much of the story, a bit same old for me. They are remaking Dambusters, I believe that Stephen Fry is involved in the screenwriting?? It will be hard pressed to beat the original though.

I don't mean the Jude Law re-make. The Michael Caine original. Surely not pants?

Shawshank is an outstanding film. Zulu and Zulu Dawn were good and Saving Private Ryan. Snatch and Lock Stock are awsome. Shouldn't admit it but Rocky Horror Picture Show makes me and kids laugh. Italian Job and Great Escape are classics I watch before England matches. Escape To Victory is a who's who but also an example of why Americans should be put with football, Stallone was worse than Jones (scum keeper). Far to many too list to be honest !!
