Now, have we done films?
We've done (and continue to do) 'what are we listening to' and even breakfast menu issues but have we done films.
At the risk of repeating an old thread can I start a debate on the meritocracy of the cinematographic world?
Think my all time favourite film is 'Platoon'. Gritty with a message and sacrifice. With one scene that brings a tear to my eye every time.
Other likes - Bladerunner, Brazil, Lord of the Rings x3 (nowhere near the books mind), The Princess Bride (daughter #1 to blame for that), The 13th Warrior, Time Bandits (Monty Python for kids -me) and Love Actually (soppy sod) as examples. I'm sure there's more (ooh and Dark Star - yes, a real film not some dodgy Swedish composition).

The problem with me and films is that I watch them and soon forget them, so often I find myself watching a film and halfway through I say to Carol, " have I seen this film before" then answer will come back that I have, but I still have to watch it to the end just to see how it does end. ;D
It goes without saying I really only like films that have happy endings and why not? they send me to bed with a nice warm feeling inside and a smile on my face. I get angry when the guy who wrote the film lets the hero die, when all through the film I believed he would live.
I can only really remember some films I have watched and most because they would have made an impact on me. The first one to do that was The African Queen an old black and white film that was on every Christmas when I was growing up.
Zulu was another film that griped me and I still enjoy watching it from time to time, Jaws was another one that I really enjoyed when it first came out, but now it looks old and past its sale date.
The film that moved me the most in recent years was the Green Mile, great film and had me in tears.
The film I have enjoyed the most in the last five years is one I know some dislike on here. It was a really great feel good factor film and thats the sort of film I want to be watching these days. What was it?
Mamma Mia

...so you were the one The wife MADE me watch it with her..........gutwrenchingly awful, of course she loved it. I love all types of film..... Shawshank redemption....was one of the best i've ever seen Hangover was one of the best recent films i've seen.....hilarious comedy still on Sky movies i think. Love anything by Hitchcock and most by Polanski as well as of course the great musicals like Oliver, Sound of Music, Mary Poppins and the Wizard of Oz. Love most of the Chuckie fims.....god they scare me to death and if anybody gets the chance to see the NZ made spoof zombie comedy/horror film Brain dead (made in about 1990?) that was banned in most countries at the time it has some hilarious moments in it.....here's a link to the trailer. Amazingly it was directed by Peter "Lord of the rings" Jackson, It now looks a bit cheesy but is somehow still disgustingly glorious .

There's no duff ones on timbo's list, including my particular favourite, Alfie. If you like Alfie, give Saturday Night and Sunday Morning a viewing as well. I last saw that at the Riverside, Hammersmith, with a sort of "audience with" beforehand with female lead Shirley Ann Field. A different perspective on the same period.
Spartacus/Gladiator American Gangster LA Confidential The Hours Seven Fight Club Talk to Her (Almodovar) Shawshank Redemption/Papillon Mystic River Anchorman
I'm just following actors films now. Many many more. I'll get back.

Agree on Schindler's List, too. My daughter will be watching that one in a couple of years whether she likes it or not, if you get my drift. Which reminds me: Mississippi Burning/Do the Right Thing/Aristocats/Planet of the Apes.

Brain Dead was funny but not as funny as Tom Green`s ` Freddie Got Fingered `! I`ve honestly never hurt myself laughing until I watched that film, not recommended for the P.C. brigade I`m afraid! Shawshank is up there with One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest for me great films with quality actors and good story lines to match! Too be honest this thread could go on for ever as there are so many good films out there, many I have even forgotten about but that`s a good thing because you come across them again and they are enjoyable for a second time!
