Hi all ive just joined the forum tonight, good work Dave R.
Ive just come back from the Newton game and i thought that Benyon was a different class tonight. I know the opposition were not the best but his pace, touch and runs were outstanding. i think Buckle should give him another run out on Saturday against Rovers, what did anyone else think who was at the game? .....

I was also very impressed with him, he looks to have come on so much from last season. He was near the half way line, with two players at his back, his control and turn with the ball at his feet, was brilliant. Not sure how many goals he scored, think it was at least two.
Paul will have some tough decisions to make who he plays up front. But what is clear, is that who ever he puts on the bench, will be able to come on and the team would lose none of its strength.
A warm welcome to you Al, thanks for joining.

Benyon's willingness to drop deep and pick up the ball was making things happen all over the pitch. Was by far the best player on the pitch tonight. His finishing was first class also. Tired towards the end but hey he had scored 4 by then. Did anyone else feel Brough was as poor in defence as he was in midfield. Green looks the dogs danglies and will get a shed load of goals for us. Not at all worryed about Phillips going after seeing Green in action. And a special mention for the new flag. Very impressive lads.

Agree. Benyon and Green's movement in the first half was fantastic to see.
Benyon's finishing in the 2nd half was top drawer. He certainly knows where the goal is!!

Brough, yes he is the one I meant, well if he was the one to let the ball go through his legs, I missed one of the goals as I need to get a drink, but what about the new winger from Mk Dons, surly he must have impressed those at the game.

Benyon has now looked sharp and up for it in both the pre-seasons so far. I was also impressed with the amount of headers he won, another improvement on last year. I hope PB uses him more than last year, even if it is from the bench. Like at least 30 mins

Benyon was definitely MOM for me tonight. Has anyone else noticed how he seems to not only be fast and sharp but very passionate about it as well? Whilst I was worrying about Phillips' disappearance and the passionate/great attitude he brought to every game, I now feel slightly eased. Benyon seems well up for it and worked flat out tonight to show everyone what he's made of. Been a fav. of mine since he joined and would love to see him get a starting position week in, week out. I hope he does get to start against Bristol on Saturday, especially as he worked his way through their youth set up there. He's come a long way, and in my opinion is a promising player.
Oh and tufc01, I saw one of your earlier posts about Benyon 'lacking a killer finish', I think perhaps hasty words after tonight’s performance.

Not to sure about winning the headers, yes he did win most of them, but to be fair, I could have one a few of them ;D ;D well someone may have had to lift me up. I really hope that he can continue making the progress that he has shown.
He is probably the best finisher we have at the club and with the service that our forwards are going to get this season, he should score plenty.

Sorry I didn't manage to meet anyone from the site tonight, but it's probably because I am such a loner Stood by the halfway line, between the two dugouts for the first-half, and sat in the very comfortable stand for the second, both of which were highly impressive....although tempered by the standard of the opposition, whose effort I would not fault but were lacking in technique. (Was near .net 'leg end' Joe Barlow and the fan known as Pondlife!!!!) The game was over as a contest after eight minutes, but I have to say that I was also hugely impressed with Benyon. I know the quality of the opposition has to be considered, but his intelligent running, superb finishing and overall improvement in strength over the summer has to be commended. The service from Carlisle and Hodges was excellent, and had Green also weighed in with the hat-trick he should really have scored, we'd have been looking at double figures. Wroe was convincing in midfield, although I thought he was outshone by the imposing (for his size) Tyrone Thompson in the first half and then by Michael Brough in the second. Brough was awful at the back for the first 45 minutes, his mistakes giving Newton their only two real chances of the half, but Martin Rice saved him on both occasions. Best of the four centre-halves on the night, by some way, was Mark Ellis whose distribution looked much better than last season - the number of diagonal balls to Carlisle from him and Nicholson that hit the mark perfectly was very encouraging. Second half Carayol gave us all something to look forward to, and he could have assisted on a couple more goals had team-mates not fluffed their lines, and went close to a goal himself that would have been good reward for his pacey and tricky performance. Oh, and Steve Adams was sat on the bench with the rest of the subs, but was unavailable to play because of a 'niggle'. Don't know where Greavsy was, but Roscoe was sat a couple of seats down from me in the second half and seemed to be happy and smiling with no outward evidence of any ongoing problems with his shoulder. After that, it's tough to see what sort of team will face Histon on August 9 - there is certainly plenty of competition for places all over the team now....just please don't play Brough at CB anymore - he is a midfielder and the evidence tonight made that obvious. Kudos also to Newton's No 11 (says Mark Titchard in the programme), who never stopped running all night, and could have scored in the second half when Woodsie did his usual back off, back off, back off style of defending. Looks like TUFC and NAFC are getting involved in some sort of partnership too - they met before the game in the clubhouse and the youth team are playing Bristol Rovers Youth at Coach Road tomorrow afternoon. I'm done typing now!! (And thanks Merse for the directions...once I got past Forde Park, I knew exactly where I was going!!!!)

Fair point, they were some quality finishes tonight, especially the side foot volley, his 3rd or 4th??

Think Wroe and Thomson whilst both playing well have a long way to go to get and understanding going. Benyon was dropping so deep alot of the time as neither of the midfield pair seemed willing to push on. Carlisle was the pick of the wingers and Nico played some excellent through balls for him. Ellis looked solid in the first half. PB will have a headache picking the starting 11 for Histon, especially if Benyon keeps up his present progress.

Talking of Nico, did you think he looked so fresh tonight, I said to one person that I felt he was looking so youthful as well.
He played some great balls around the park. Yes Newton offered nothing really, but it was great to see the ball being played around so well. Some long balls, but so much on the floor.
