Well I, for one, am prepared to give Steve Woods the benefit of the doubt, if his version of the sequence of events is correct.
If he wanted to stay until the end of the season and even "train with the kids", but was told that this was not necessary and he should leave immediately, then I believe that he had every right to feel bitter, if not to say some of the things he said in that interview.
He may have contacted the chairman after hearing the news that he would no longer be required, but after the service he has given to the club and then being treated like an outcast, my reaction is, so what ?
Paul Buckle has worked wonders this season to get the club back into the Football League, there can be no doubt about that. The manner in which some players have reacted to his decisions and the way in which he has announced them, however, makes him appear to be a would-be disciplinarian who is so sensitive to criticism that he cannot tolerate the slightest resistance to what he has decreed.
There are two other aspects of this matter which frankly do not make sense.
Firstly, Steve Woods was, purportedly, not offered a contract extension because Chris Robertson and Mark Ellis were seen to be the future of the club. Why, then, are there now reports that Ellis will shortly be on his way ? Is this another player whose disappointment at not being given a fair shot the manager is not too concerned about ?
Secondly, Woods is 32 and Lee Hodges will soon be 36. Hodges, admittedly, has one more year on his contract, but surely anyone with even the most basic understanding of defending (which, incidentally, I DO have) could see that Woods is far superior and more experienced as a centre-back. This comparison, in my opinion, makes the decision to release him all the more remarkable.

I felt for Steve Woods until I heard that he tried to undermine the manager. He asked the question of PB about his contract and was honestly told that it would not be renewed. He was not happy with this and went over the manager's head.
he could have continued with the club but having gone over the manager's head, there was no way he could continue in the squad.
I was disappointed with Steve's version of events in the Indy this morning.
Why did people vote for him?? I thought all the sheep were in Wales!

Woods' little account doesn’t ring true for me.
He says "we were fine before..we were sound"; then says the team did it "despite him rather than because of him".
So when did he feel that the players were achieving what they were in spite of the manager? Was it when he was told he wouldn’t be kept on, or before?
If it was before, then clearly things weren’t "sound" between him and the manager. If it was after then clearly his view is based on personal rancour, and, in my view, worth very little indeed.

Hmmm, i think this shows up what many of us have felt for sometime. Buckle is a poor manager. The players covered his tactical mistakes and made him look better than he is.
But of course this won't be the spin put on it from the deluded like Issie.

One is a manager who has the full support of the club's board, the other is an released and as yet unsigned football player.

Does the FACT that Mr Woods now washes his dirty linen in public mean that he is no longer sponsored by the Lady Down the Launderette?

Well, although Woods' implication was that we won promotion back to the Football League despite Paul Buckle rather than because of him, Chris Hargreaves says on his overnight blog that he expects to be announcing very soon that he's staying at OUR "Brilliant Club" ! More a case of the manager leading us out of the woods into the promised land I'd say!

This comparison, in my opinion, makes the decision to release him all the more remarkable. On the first question: what do you expect the manager to do....................pick more than eleven players to start a match? On the second: the very FACT that Lee Hodges is under contract for one more year (as you indeed point out) makes your point irrelevant and in addition, Hodges offers other strings to his bow than Woods and is thus a more useful member of the squad. Don't be distracted by age, skill and adaptability are far more pertinent, and attitude is everything....................look at Greavsie. Should Ellis prove to be "on his way" it would most likely be at the player's behest rather than the manager's.

What a bitter and twisted little shit, he won`t get a contract anywhere if he keeps that kind of behaviour up, any decent manager will look at this and question whether or not he wants a player with that kind of attitude, Steve you should appologise to Paul, the club and the fans for those remarks, even if it`s just to save your career. Admit the FACT your passionate about TUFC and it hurt so much that this bitterness rose to the surface and your really sorry and it won`t happen again! Don`t let it boil up inside it`s not healthy!

It's a bit difficult for me to attend games Issie. But having been a fan for 40 years i think i've attended enough not to have my loyalty called into question. Are you really going to do the Who's a better supporter crap? Issie weren't you a character on some australian soap? You know the one......blond bimbo, big boobs with the IQ of an exeter fan? You sure remind me of one.

It's not your loyalty I question btw, it's your ability to form an informed view on how the team performs that I question. Only a fool would criticise as you do without even seeing a game. Only a total fool would expect anyone to take that person's criticisms seriously.

The Australian soap opera was created purely to send over here in retaliation for Upstairs Downstairs and When the boot cumes in type drivel that we had to endure on our Aussie screens, well thats the way I like to look at it anyway! Oh the little fishy on the little dishy oh the little fishy when the boot cumes in, dance to your daddy sing to your mummy dance to your daddy when the boot cumes in, is the fog on the Tyne poisoness or something?

Aussie its only been 2 weeks since no football, are you feeling ok!! ;D Re: Steve Woods - was really peed off when I read the independent, I was told at the beginning at the season that he (Steve Woods) had a bad attitude and he was disappointed to see him still at the club. (TBH this surprised me at the time) but it seems to me that he was right. He being a member of the board. Anyway I hope that is the last we will hear from him, subject closed as far as I am concerned. Thank you Woodsie for your service to the club over the past 8 years but now p**s off and find yourself a new club and stop whinging!
