I understand that Alex Russell will be joining our friends up the A380! Don’t blame him really -probably a very good move for him if this goes through..

I do hate if onlys, but if we had done the job we should have done last season and not lost to City, then he may well have come back to us.
But then if he had would he fit in with the players we have and our style of play? good luck to him and its a football club where he will earn a wage and it should matter to us that it happens to be Exeter City, lets be honest, they are doing well and its not down to luck or doggy linesmen ;D

It's a sad story from a Torquay fans point of view because with him in the team the'll probably get promoted again. Still Can't blame him though. He wants to play at as high a level as he can. He should be playing every week for Cheltenham but he's got a crap manager, at least Tisdale will give him the role in the team he deserves.

I've read countless posts on these boards (and others) in the past, calling for Russell to return to Plainmoor for a second spell - and "romantically" lead us to promotion in the process.
I personally have always been a believer of "never go back" when it comes to players returning to former clubs ( prime example,David Graham) - as you always tend to be disappointed in their contrasting form.
With this in mind, and allowing for the "fickle" nature of the average football fan, it will be interesting to see how many of those who once prayed for Aggy's return - and termed him a "Legend" at Plainmoor will now be referring to him as "Scum" or an "Arsehole", etc for having the "gall" to join our arch rivals up the road.
Any views on this?

Wot Chris Hayes said...... I personally never wanted to see him return, even though I know that Leroy attempted to gt him to return on loan when he was at Bristol City. I don't mean that in a negative way - I'm grateful that he was with us for those 4 season, but times move-on.
There are several former loan signings (eg Kerry or Hollands) that I would love to see return, but players coming back on the downward tragectory of their career and not having the legs or the brain they did in their first spell isn't great to watch. He would be streets ahead of anyone who can partner Hargreaves in the current squad, but I believe that we had the peak years of his career (even if he achieved more with other clubs).
I would like to wish him all the best at Exeter (but I can't bring myself to!) but wouldn't call him a "Judas" etc - just as I never deem him a "legend".
He's just someone earning a living - he certainly doesn't owe us anything and I wouldn't blame him for wanting to work with Tisdale rather than that horrible turd that manages Cheltenham at the moment.

The more intellectually-challenged will revile him as "Scum" or an "Arsehole" but most fans understand that a professional footballer will take the best offer on the table without needing to worry whether that offer comes from a rival of a former club. Aggy was the best player I have ever seen in a Torquay shirt - a true legend. He always impressed me with the professional way in which he conducted himself and lost no brownie points in moving on in a dignified manner - unlike say Marriot or Akinfenwa. I would imagine he may now be a little past his best but could still walk into any League 2 side. I have often thought that Tisdale is similar in style to Rosenior (both in good points and in bad points), so I would have thought that a move to Exeter would be ideal for Aggy.

Alex Russell is a professional footballer NOT a fan of any particular club. He gave us particularly good, indeed exemplary service; and we should all have enough grace to wish him all the best with his new club!

Russell to excreta eh? That's a good signing for them and shows they're going for it. Flirting around the playoff positions and doing something that should help their promotion push and give them every chance.
Now why didn't we think of that? Answers on a postcard.

Have I missed something Dave, you're only a "Guest" now! The forum security log shows that Dave Shaw deleted is account at 15:45 today, as to the reasons why, I do not know. He has not sent me a pm or email and I feel disappointed as he has been allowed to have his say on the forum and I also stood up to the person who had sent him Pm's he did not like. Maybe he know feels we will be going up after all Dave R
