News is two strikers signed Aaron Jarvis from Scunthorpe and Jordan Ponticelli from Wrexham; time will tell if correct. Aaron Jarvis announced as fifth signing! Well done Nick - good scoop 🫡 Another incoming - Ponticelli?

In addition to these 5 two ofthe under 18s have made the professional grade, Jack Winsor, local lad who was initially at Plymouth Academy so has had a good grounding before joining the gulls. A good winger and someone to look out for. Lewis Brooks also got the second berth and will be looking to progress.
Johnson had this to say:
With a total of seven new additions to his first team squad today, Gulls boss Gary Johnson gave his reaction to a busy day at Plainmoor.
“I’m very, very happy with our business to date. There’s still a bit more business to do, but myself, Downesy and Pete have worked very hard in the summer.
“There’s still two or three to come, that we’ve almost agreed with to come and join us, but the first day showed these boys what we’re about, and they showed us immediately what they’re about.
“Hopefully they will have a good pre-season, and they will show our super fans their ability, but I’m excited, and I can’t wait for us to start the games, so we can showpiece these new lads that we’ve brought in, along with those that already know our game.”
Regarding his two new first-year pros, Johnson had this to say:
“I’m always delighted to take on a couple of young lads. Jack and Lewis were part of a very, very good Under-18s season.
“We’ll still keep an eye on the other boys in that group that are still at South Devon College, but Lewis and Jack have got that opportunity to develop and to enjoy being full-time professionals, and hopefully it’s a successful start to their careers.”

Some interesting young talent signed on the dotted and an interesting season in prospect. With the exceptions of Asa and Deano its going to a very young squad with enough talent for an entertaining season to look forward to. You can understand why GJ is pleased one or two look to be exceptional prospects. How they handle the rigours of the NL is the big question and we will all need to be patient from the off until get them gelling as a team. Still more to come. No sign yet of a center back or keeper and another target man is a must though i wouldn't be surprised if Halstead is given the no1 spot after an impressive last few games at the end of last season. I think he deserves another crack.

Squad is growing. Looks very youthful with only 5 out of the 17 above 22. Just Lapslie in the peak 25 to 30 age bracket. Shows we are being seen as a stepping stone club. Transition from youth to mens football can be difficult but at least most coming in have had that experience now.
GK - Halstead- 31 Defenders - Central: Omar - 22, Moxey - 36 LB: Martin.22 RB: Crowe 21 Midfielders - Central : Lapslie-26 Moyse -19 Hall - 35 Hanson - 21 McGavin -22Wingers: O’Connell -22 Evans -20, Winsor -18 Rogers -21 Strikers- Koszela - 20 Jarvis -24 Brooks -18
I wonder if Hall may be moved more to central defence?

So no shouting from the rafters, but equally no moans and groans from the cheap seats.
Some glowing reports from an Ipswich fan on the moaning site (formerly the kiddies site) so we shall see.

Yes, a very youthful squad and you have to reserve judgement until they start performing on the pitch. Some will be ready and up to the rigours and cut and thrust of this league, for others it might take longer and we will have to be patient and give them a chance,to adapt. Hopefully, the one's still to come in will be more experienced , so the balance of the squad experience and age wise is a bit more even.

i wouldn't be surprised if Halstead is given the no1 spot after an impressive last few games at the end of last season. I think he deserves another crack. I'm afraid this is the position that worries me most. Those last few games aside, Halstead wasn't a rookie when he came to us, he had 12 years experience as a professional goalkeeper whilst never securing the first choice keeper spot at any of his former clubs. Those early season games before MacDonald returned were the worst goalkeeping performances I can remember from any of our keepers. That said it wouldn't shock me entirely if MacDonald came back. I assume he left because he wants League football and as good as he was for us last season I'm not sure he is good enough for a step up. If Halstead had another mare and MacDonald was still without a club it might happen. I'm reasonably upbeat about the signings, it will take time for them to gel but it might just work out over the course of two seasons, but I would hate to see any advances they make be wasted because we scrimped on the goalkeeper position.

Potentially a very good signing for us and very much in the Ben Whitfield mould. Says something when a manager of GJ' experience and track record can attract talented young players. Priceless for our club to have a manager of GJ'calibre.prety sure many clubs at our level would have him at the drop of a hat.
