It is good news that the game is now a sell out and you do wonder who has bought all the tickets. Maybe sleepy old Torbay has woke up and if they have then that should keep Merse quite for a few days ;D The question that has to be asked was how phone sales were handled, have all calls to the club resulted in tickets being sold? [glow=,2,300]I ask only because they will have to be posted out you would expect and therefore the club should know if the have been sold to Coventry fans. [/glow] If tickets sold via the phone have had no controls put on them, then we could end up with a worse situation than before. Maybe merse was right about giving up one end of the popside and having a temporary fence put up etc. If it is the case that we may have home stand tickets sold to Coventry fans over the phone, then they will be free to wander or stand where they like on the popside.Having them all in one place would have to be better than having them mixed in and not knowing who they were as such. I really do not see there being any problems at the game, but the away stand and how many away fans the ground can hold, does need looking into and finding away to offer bigger clubs more tickets in cup games etc. The space behind the away end is large and really the stand should have been built bigger, I seem to remember Bateson saying that the problem making it bigger, was the height of the roof. While its better for away fans to have a roof over the stand, they must still get wet when the wind and rain blows into the stand, I would rather see the away end like it once was. No it did not have a roof, but the steps went much further back and it could hold so many more away fans, I wonder if anyone knows what it was able to hold, before it became a car lot for Dave Webb. Not sure that makes any difference. 2 of my mates that are still in the Navy text me and emailed me today to say that now have tickets, having not been able to get them from Coventry. Both are coming with their families, so 6 altogther, all in the pop side. The address for the tickets will be Helston in Cornwall, so why would they not be sent tickets?? How are the staff at Plainmoor to know they are Coventry fans?? They also asked if they can stand next to me at the game so we can 'catch up' . One of them emailed me to say "was gonna where my Cov shirt, i wont get battered will I?" I am going to say they can, ONLY if I can stand with them for the replay. ;D Personally i don't mind, mainly because i know them and know they are OK. However, i found it hard at the home play off leg last year when an Exeter fan was sat behind me in the family stand. Note to anyone who is thinking of battering any Cov fans, make sure you only do it to those wearing Coventry shirts because those talking to them might actually have their Yellow shirt on, but under a jumper/coat, like a southern softie does. Also talking of the play offs, for the play off semi last year, if i didn't get an away ticket from Plainmoor, i was going to try the North Bank. On the postcode basis i would have been alright Ex16 (Ottery St Mary). And what a battering Myself and chips would have got when Zebs slotted that late winner. Because no matter what you say about keeping quiet if we score, in the context of that game, i would defy any Torquay fan not to have gone nuts when we scored. What would have happened then?? What will happen if the Cov guys in the pop side cheer when they score?? You would rather hope nothing. As I have said to them, in the context of this game. FA Cup with Big(ish) team vs non league minnows, i would expect our fans to treat them the way we would expect to be treated by them if it were reversed. Sadly i feel that might be pie in the sky thinking.

In reply to the "issue" concerning the capacity and format of the Away end - I have to agree with Merse on this one. When! the new Grandstand is built, it should be possible to add on at least 200 hundred extra seats for away fans. As a next stage, an addition to the "Pop" side to make it deeper and higher with some extra capacity cordoned off for away fans towards the Babbacombe end. Remember, Coventry is only the second "sell out" game in how many years? Also, in the interim, put the application in to "Health and Safety"and make the necessary arrangements to get an increase in the existing capacity.

Very interesting post and comments tufc01! It helps to highlight the "problems" of watching football in this era - even at our level! I don't recall such "arrangements" or concerns for the FA Cup game against the then mighty Spurs in the 60's!

Times are different now,I'm older and don't want to be in a position, where trouble could happen. We have gone so long without any problems at the ground, its the way I like it As i said I would expect the game to be trouble free, but the facts are that having fans mixed on the same terrace has to increase the risks.

I ask only because they will have to be posted out you would expect and therefore the club should know if the have been sold to Coventry fans. . I will try and answer that one as I ordered and paid for my ticket by phone yesterday. Took me a good 20 minutes to get through and was asked for my address, phone No and post code as well as my card details and when I was collecting. Tickets must also be collected by 12 noon on Friday so as you say will have to be posted if they are accepting sales from the midlands. I have no idea though doubt very much whether they would refuse requests for tickets over the phone from CC supporters. We all know that there are ways around it if there is a problem. Whatever, the club should know roughly how many Coventry supporters will be in the Pop side and I would guess quite a few as I cannot imagine the locals arriving in there droves for this one.

Thanks Pete, having never ordered over the phone before I was not sure what was asked. I'm happy that he game has sold out and just hope all TUFC fans who want to go, have managed to get tickets. I would expect that we may well have a few hundred Coventry fans on the popside, unless the tickets have been bought by our own fans.
Lets hope for a good game and one that does not have to many issues on the pitch and then maybe all will be fine,as a home fan I do believe the club has to do its best to ensure home stands only contain home fans,

I cannot see a problem with Cov fans being in the Pop side if they are families, it`s the bloody chav`s that cause trouble. If a genuine fan is euphoric about a goal then fair play they scored celabrate, just don`t turn around and get in someones face about it, thats what causes trouble. You`ll find that most decent supporters of FOOTBALL will even applaud a good piece of play even when it`s the opposition! It could work o.k. having shared stands but you`ll probably find that it doesn`t work because someones always going to upset the apple cart, so to say!

According to this forum coventrycity.rivals.net/forum/pgePosts.aspx?threadId=361685&boardId=104&clubId=27there will be plenty of CC supporters in the popside tomorrow and I am just a little concerned that the club have obviously knowingly sold popside tickets to there fans. Don't get me wrong I am overjoyed that the club have a sell out but there are potential problems especially if they are of the wrong type. I would be very interested to hear what the clubs view of this situation is and what the hell will the stewards do if things does kick off.. Surely it would have been better to have a segregated area on the Popside so that both sets of supporters can support there team amongst there own. I really hope that the club have a contingency plan.

Pete having away fans on the popside has been my main concern since Coventry sold all their tickets. I changed my view on what Merse felt should happen and that was to sell them more and fence of the end of the popside and have them all there in one place, I now think that would have been better.
I would think those on the popside will be in many different places in the stand and not as one large group, therefore there really should be no problems. If there were and if it became a fact that the club sold tickets knowing to away fans for home stands, then I would consider not going to any more games this season.
As I have said before, the club has a duty to me and all other TUFC fans, to make sure as much as they can, that the ground will be a safe place for me the paying customer to watch a football match.

In two minds about this one. I know of two people who are cov fans and live locally, they both have tickets for pop side and personally I don't blame them (I watched brum v tufc a few years ago from home end thanks to bateson!)
There will be a fair few local cov fans who cannot get away tickets and I would do the same if I was in their shoes. My friends were both asked addresses when they ordered ,both self collected tickets.
That said I hope this is the same for all fans and that the club wasn't silly enough to sell tickets to people in the cov area (which I think may have happened) I recognise that tufc fans live all over but it would be very noticable if suddenly there were lots of midlands adresses (and the club will know if this has happened)
Certainly the cc web site has lots of cov fans talking about having tickets in the pop. I have concerns, and like others I hope the club has a contingency plan.

I really hope that the club have a contingency plan. It will be a difficult day for security - but I'm sure they have a range of contingency plans to cover various scenarios. I must say that I think it would be virtually impossible to stop Coventry fans buying tickets. Could a London club stop Torquay fans buying tickets just by addresses? I don't think so. Maybe a few Coventry fans living this way will enjoy being at a live game and adopt us us a second team.

I'm sure the Stewards on hearing the Coventry fans cheering in the Popside will throw them out - no worries.

"Not too many issues on the pitch? " Stuff that ..........I want four goals, sending offs, yellow cards, fouls flying in, good decisions, bad decisions and penalty saves and a game so full of issues I am out of breath at the end of it! game on

If you see a 6ft6 guy stood at the back of the stand (hopefully) with grey hair and a blue coat, come and say hi.... it'll be me!
