With ten games left to go, thought it was worth comparing the top 3 with the title race now wide open. Not good reading for us on first viewing, most top 7 opponents and highest league average opposition in our run in. What we do have is a very experienced manager that has done it all before, players coming back from injury and consequently, a fresher squad than Sutton who have not had those injuries. Hartlepool are right in it as well. We will need to play like champions to have a chance of winning this league and keep grinding out those results. There will be shocks as pressure starts to build.....
TORQUAY: Average opponent league position 10.20 Number of top 7 opponents - 4 Max points 90
13th April Sutton United(2) v Torquay United 20th April Woking (19) v Torquay United 24th April Torquay United v Notts County (5) 27th April Torquay United v Aldershot Town (12) 1st May Torquay United v Eastleigh (9) 3rd May Chesterfield (6) v Torquay United 8th May Torquay United v Bromley (10) 15th May Stockport County (4) v Torquay United 22nd May Torquay United V Barnet (22) 29th May Altrincham (13) v Torquay United
SUTTON: Average opponent league position 12.73 Number of top 7 opponents - 3 Max Points 96
13th April Sutton United v Torquay United (3) 17th April Altrincham (13) v Sutton 24th April Eastleigh (9) v Sutton 27th April Sutton United v Barnet (22) 1st May Sutton United v Aldershot Town (12) 3rd May Notts County (5) v Sutton United 8th May Sutton United v Weymouth (20) 11th May Sutton United v Woking (19) 15th May Maidenhead United (14) v Sutton United 22nd May Sutton United V Hartlepool (1) 29th May Barnet (22) v Sutton United

It is the best possible run in Rob. It means that we can deprive our promotion challengers of points without having to rely on others to do it! 😉⚽️

If Sutton ‘win’ the league but choose not to replace their plastic pitch and therefore cannot get promoted - would this mean the runner up gets that automatic place?

If Sutton ‘win’ the league but choose not to replace their plastic pitch and therefore cannot get promoted - would this mean the runner up gets that automatic place? They will be replacing it. Don’t know what happens if they don’t, though. Probably someone in League 2 gets a reprieve. It is good to see that on 22/5 Sutton and Hartlepool meet in what is Hartlepool’s final game. Could do with that being the day we finally take back the lead in the chase after thumping Barnet. Coz Sutton have a gimme on 29/5. I think Stockport and Notts County might still mount a push, so wasn’t too upset to see Notts County lost to Hartlepool yesterday, myself. Thanks for that, Rob. I imagine I will cross refer to it a lot if we win on Tuesday.

If Sutton ‘win’ the league but choose not to replace their plastic pitch and therefore cannot get promoted - would this mean the runner up gets that automatic place? The Sutton United club issued a statement yesterday confirming that if they got promoted (they admitted that was far from certain though it was in their hands) they would be taking all the action necessary to play in the Football League. This is not just replacing the pitch. They have planning permission for a new seated stand which will be in place in time for the new season, and they have to replace all their turnstiles as they are not compliant with Football League rules (automatic counting). The pitch itself cannot be replaced with only grass because of the terrain (it would be flooded during the winter) so they intend to lay a more expensive hybrid surface natural grass / synthetic. Most clubs in the English Premier and indeed in the Rugby Union Premiership have these surfaces and they are acceptable to the Football League.

Think you might need to add Stockport to this.

link - both fair points, in the last 6 form table Chesterfield are first and Stockport third with ourselves second and Hartlepool in fourth. Ironically, despite Sutton’s first loss in 15 games, they are down to 12th reflecting their stutter but after 2 more toughish away games have a few very winnable games, Will add those two in tomorrow and while they are still outsiders, needing 3 teams to stutter above them, only need to see how we have made up a 10 point deficit in just 2 weeks to see how teams can turn things around.

Updated run in for Stockport and Chesterfield with Stockport having by far and away the easiest set of fixtures and our match against them could be crucial. Chesterfield have a lot of tough games and their only mid week off is just before the last match! They do have 3 nice homes games before Halifax away on the last day.
Stockport: Average opponent league position 14.22 Number of top 7 opponents - 1 Current points: 58 Max points 85
17th April Stockport v Maidenhead United (15) 24th April Boreham Woods (11) v Stockport County 27th April Kings Lynn (21) v Stockport County 1st May Halifax (8) v Stockport County 3rd May Stockport County v Wealdstone (18) 11th May Stockport County v Dagenham (16) 15th May Stockport County v Torquay United (3) 22nd May Stockport County V Woking (19) 29th May Yeovil (17) v Stockport County
Chesterfield: Average opponent league position 11.1 Number of top 7 opponents - 3 Current points: 52 Max points 85
17th April Chesterfield v Bromley (9) 20th April Chesterfield v Halifax (8) 24th April Wrexham (7) v Chesterfield 27th April Bromley (9) v Chesterfield 1st May Hartlepool (1) v Chesterfield 3rd May Chesterfield v Torquay United (3) 8th May Woking (19) v Chesterfield 11th May Chesterfield v Kings Lynn (21) 15th May Chesterfield v Wealdstone (18) 22nd May Chesterfield V Dagenham (16) 29th May Halifax (8) v Chesterfield

Having carefully examined the remaining fixtures of the top group, my forecast of the final positions and points is as follows:
1. Torquay United 81 (goal difference) 2. Sutton United 81 3. Stockport County 79 4. Hartlepool United 77 5. Chesterfield 73
