link - more here on how non league steps 3 & 4 are getting ready and putting arrangements in place with a view to starting the new season and the work being put in by the FA to get those safety protocols in place.

link - looks like the National League are targeting a September start which if all goes well on the Covid front ties in nicely with the return of schools and reduced social distancing.

Glad they are looking at this. Really hope to be able to see some football at Plainmoor in the next few months. As George says it is the getting in and out that is most problematic. Leaving the Pop is a nightmare. Let’s hope they can make an exit in the Family Stand / Popside corner to ease things. Would hope we could get some kind of streaming for fans who cannot get to games - maybe for all of us in the short term. Not a fan of TV football, but much preferred the Lymington one camera coverage. Felt more like being at the game without constant angle changes, zooming in so you can’t see the bigger picture and replaying incidents over and over. Simple wide angle footage, simple commentary or no commentary at all would suit me. Struggle to see how the finances work, but fingers crossed. We managed to lose the thick end of a million quid a year without limits on crowds. |

We have already seen on here that many won’t return at least in the short term while this virus is still prevalent in the country and therefore some sort of streaming service could be the difference in viability. A club like Torquay with a high exile support and an older demographic could pick up a lot of viewers from home games and linking in with the EFL ifollow service at £10 per game may be the way to go?
Again, supermarkets put a lot of thought into exiting and entering their premises and stewards / announcers could perhaps see each block in BB go out Individually and other exits opened at either end in the pop side and again sections of crowds between steps could go out one at the time.

According to BTPIR the FA have confirmed that football at steps 1 to 7 will not return until fans are allowed into stadiums and all the leagues at this level will start together. The FA believe it will be possible to restart in September if the government give the go ahead.
I think the Major issue is going to be around testing; will clubs still have to provide and pay for testing of players and staff?
It is going to be bad enough for the larger clubs at this level to pay for it (e.g. Torquay, Notts County etc), but for clubs in the southern League et al I would have thought it is impossible. Chester FC have issued a statement with regards to competing in the NLN play offs stating they may not take part if the financial stability of the club is put at stake.out
Personally I think it may be possible that the government will ditch the testing criteria because, and I do not wish to appear to be making a political point, it seems that ever since the Cummings affair the government has lost its nerve in maintaining its covid policy and seems to be rushing to return to economic normality.

The current testing regime has been put in place for football to get around the current lockdown procedures. As lockdown is gradually eased due to a lower number of cases then the testing criteria can be dropped, hopefully in time for a September start.
I think the plan is for a South Korean type testing system where cases are reduced to a manageable number and kept low by a rigorous testing and tracing with local lockdown where necessary such as what is being considered today for example in Anglesey. Quarantine of those coming in from countries with higher infection rates is also required. Flare ups of this virus have been seen in Germany and China and will likely happen here together with disruption to the football programme. So there will be football but not as we know it as already discussed in this thread.

link - Johnson planning on a mid September start- bit of an update on what he is doing and more hints that players deals are agreed and just waiting for pre-season to start before signing. Whether there is some form of pre-contact agreement in place is not elaborated upon.

link - interesting thread with fixtures provisional calculated for a 5th, 12th and 19th September start with the league committee meeting on 14th July so May hear something in a couple of weeks. Thinking about the Leicester lockdown, any similar lockdown over the winter will impact on football which could see some fixtures played in front of an empty stadium and players being tested again, fine if that is a premiership team affected but elsewhere?

He makes a number of good points about social distancing, reduced capacities, government allowing mass gatherings and of course different rules in Wales. Also quite apparent that each part of the pyramid will need different solutions to comply with government directives that are still to be drafted, The possibility of any future lockdowns also have to be considered, whether there are local, regional or even national and the impact on the season and how relegation and promotion issues are resolved with a mechanism in place so we do not end up with the paralysis witnessed when play was stopped earlier this year. link

link - amongst other measures looks like the face mask may come into the equation. Compulsory in shops from 24 July, will it be for football grounds come September? Lots of water to flow under the bridge by then but maybe the idea is to curtail singing / shouting?
