link - so premiership have agreed to allowing up to 5 substitutions in a match with 9 on the bench as they seek to mitigate the intensity of the schedule. Should also give managers greater tactical freedom to mix things up during a game.

link - fixtures are now out for the championship games which recommence on 20th June, Meanwhile big day tomorrow for leagues 1 & 2 as they vote on the regulations to end the season. This is likely to go with the EFL framework which is basically to decide the leagues on an unweighted points per game basis. To keep the principle of promotion and relegation and to have play offs but with no more than four teams. There are 2 significant other proposals with Barnsley’s no relegation approach and Tranmere’s margin for error proposal. Relegation to the national league will only take place if they can give a guarantee that they will restart next season. We have already of course speculated on the “starting the season” thread as to how that could occur and what it would look like. 36 EFL clubs and 13 Championship clubs will need to vote in support of these proposals for this to pass. Once undertaken then I would expect the National League to follow very quickly.

link- I see third case of Covid - 19 has been picked up by Exeter City with a continuing undercurrent of asymptomatic cases making an early return to football difficult. It is likely that some players will not be available for selection and clubs really need to put their staff in bubbles.

Votes shortly in leagues 1 & 2 on whether to implement this in their respective divisions, Very likely that the National League will look to emulate this as well.

link - as expected both leagues one and two have voted to end the season. Of local interest is that Plymouth are promoted to league one next season and Exeter are in the play offs. The first leg for Exeter is on Thursday, the 18th of June and the second on Monday the 22nd of June with the final at Wembley Stadium to be played on Monday, the 29th of June. A very quick turn around but means the season is completed before players contracts end on 30th June.

Relegation from League 2 is dependent on whether or not the National League starts next season. However does it also depend on the actual date the National League restarts. E.g. If League 2 restarts in September but National League decides to stall until January, will promotion and relegation between the two leagues still go ahead?

Would think EFL would insist it starts at same time or no relegation for its member clubs.

Would think EFL would insist it starts at same time or no relegation for its member clubs. Yes that what I would have expected, but I can see a massive problem. To maintain the integrity of the pyramid all leagues and divisions would have to start together. For the National League clubs and possibly the lower division EFL clubs as well, it would be almost financially and economically impossible to restart without paying spectators. But the Premier League would no doubt want to restart as early as August and of course they are able to do this paying crowds of no paying crowds. Something is going to have to give and I think there are going to be a lot of tears shed before this has resolved itself.

Agree about needing paying spectators but I think different leagues and grounds have different dynamics and challenges to face up to and there are a lot of unknowns which will become clearer in time. I think there may be some scope for variance in starting the season up and down the pyramid if necessary but until FA protocols come out we are all whistling in the dark somewhat.
