link - well it is below National League level to the detriment of Truro for example but with a desire to finish the National League (including north and south) and above. However, this is a massive can of worms with contracts to bear in mind, notice on when these games will be played, out of season pitch replenishment works and the impact on the following season all to be taken into consideration. No easy decision and we have no idea what the impact of the Coronavirus will continue to be further down the line......

link -Following the meeting of the national league, the season has been suspended indefinitely and they are taking legal advice as to how the season can be concluded. It was very much on the cards although not too clear as to how the promotion and relegation stand but very likely that the leagues will eventually restart as they were. As an aside, does anyone know if the Torquay woman’s football team remain in their league for next year? Would be a big result for them if so.....

link - in the midst of this Premier League article is the news that this league will advance their £125 million payment to the English football league and the national league. Although it is not new money, at least it will help with cash flow at this very difficult time. Both the short term and medium impact of this virus is still to be played out though. The main thrust of the article however is that the football players are still collecting their full salaries while the back room staff are being furloughed. With a salary cap there was absolutely no point in doing the same for footballers in the upper echelons of the league but there are growing calls for them to accept a haircut in their wages of 30% and share the “pain.” Even top level clubs are not immune to this crisis, as to the lower level one......  ?

link - looks like a national league are looking to wrap up the season putting forward a resolution to member clubs asking for the season to be ended with immediate effect. If this is passed then they will be sending options to the clubs and putting these to the vote on how the season is resolved. Nicely side steps possible legislation from individual members if they are undertaking the democratic will of their members when making these decisions that will have financial ramifications for some. Pretty clear though that the season cannot continue at a later date now. Also, not sure whether you can only be furloughed until the end of your contract which for many is the end of April or if in effect your employment is frozen to the end of the scheme presently set for the end of May. Even so, there is doubt about next season starting in good time and many other issues to work through,

Although it is not new money, at least it will help with cash flow at this very difficult time. - just to give an indication in the discrepancy between our level and the league, just 53k goes to each National League club which equates to just 1% of this total that goes to our division. Also confirmation this April money would have been received in August anyway. |

Notts County and Yeovil town are very critical of this motion in that clubs have been asked to vote on ending the season without knowing first what the ramifications of that will be. Of course for these two clubs it could well mean they lose the opportunity of promotion back into the league and possibly the loss of their parachute payments? - link |

link - BBC reporting that the vote is split in the National League on ending the season but of the known responses quite a significant split in favour of ending the season now.

Well, from a Torquay perspective, we are in the National League next year whatever happens. Torquay Statement Very thorny issue with regard to promotion and relegation and difficult to see anything other than the status quo being obtained. How many times have we escaped relegation but would have been relegated on a points per game average with the last 10 games of the season to go. If there is one slot in the football league available then do not think Barrow should be promoted on a PPG basis and perhaps a play off similar to the rugby premiership should be introduced? |

link - Boreham Wood chairman is of the view that we cannot have promotion and relegation and makes the valid point that he cannot pay the players if nobody is paying to watch the games. This may well have an impact on the 20/21 season of course.

link - looks like our manager was not happy with the decision to end the season but this is ultimately the consensus of the individual clubs and is surely the only viable option going forward? He makes the point about promotion and relegation between the EFL and the National League but whether the EFL finish the season or not, clubs at our level cannot wait due to the difference in funding streams and contracts etc and the situation needs to be managed now. Things are going to be very difficult for most clubs regardless and with funding streams cut off the bigger picture is just survival.
