In between waiting for signings our national side are in the World Cup starting in less than a month's time with a young squad that has low expectations and therefore less pressure. Hopefully we can get out of the group stages but then I suspect we will flounder but at least this should provide some entertainment and a few beverages and curries along the way! Any thoughts on your interest in this competition and how you think your team will do? World Cup Squad and BBC take on things

The squad seems unbalanced to me. Six full backs? I know Young and Delph have been midfielders in the past but both have played at left back all season so must have been selected on their form in this position.

Definitely looks light in the midfield department to me. I do like Dier, though, and he is another centre-back option. I would have binned Hart as well, but would have added Wilshere. Agree, too many full backs. Kyle Walker will be centre-back, I expect. Delph, Danny Rose AND Ashley Young confuses me. Delph can be seen as a utility player, I suppose. Young would be my first choice left back, but expect he will go for Danny Rose. Alexander-Arnold will be back-up to Trippier. No arguments on the striker front for me.

The squad lacks genuine world standard players IMHO. Those who thought we have a chance of glory in Russia and watched yesterdays cup final would have had an awful shock. Phil Jones would have trouble getting in our squad if you ask me, never rated him and he ends in the squad. Rashford hasn't improved or seriously upped his game since he arrived on the scene with the usual over the top accolades being bandied about at the time. Ashley Young another who will be exposed against the best in the world, had a good season but past his best . Not a huge fan of Dier but the best we've got I guess and can convert to a few positions. The way I see it is how many England players would compete for a place in the German or Spanish sides? I only see Kane, Sterling, Walker possibly Ali as potential World class players who would knock on the door of the best teams. Two players I would have liked to see in the squad would have been Shelvey and Wilfred Zaha both have enough quality and experience. On the whole the choices are what was expected with no real surprises - predictable just as we will be in the finals.

Zaha has played in World Cup and Cup of Nations games for the Ivory Coast so is no longer eligible for England, even though he has a couple of caps.
You can still switch if you have only played in friendlies but not once you have played in a competitive game.

I'm sure that in past squads we have only taken 1 right back and 2 left backs with a utility player as cover. There's a desperate lack of creativity further forward, Shelvey in for Delph or Trippier for me. Real shame that Lallana isn't fit.

One guy that has improved and grown the past season or two. I reckon Harry Kane would have liked the service from him or Shelvey. Should have taken a punt on Shelvey. Those glorious defense splitting balls (Something we have missed for seasons after season) I cant see being offered by anyone else. Forwards need service at all levels of the game - a big part of our problem and why we struggled to hit the net last season. Owers has to try and solve that one and then perhaps Brett wWillaims will start to look the player many of us believe he is.

I would agree with Zaha but the question is 'At whose expense?'. Same with Shelvey. Could Sessegnon have done a job? I know he plays at Championship level, but too many big name clubs are sniffing around him for him not to have something going for him. And he's already proved his worth at U19 level so maybe stepping up to the senior team would work. Being called up at 16 in 2006, by SGE, worked for Theo Walcott. Oh wait... Too early for Sessignon Flo. I have watched him in the Playoffs where he was effective in patches and showed flashes of why he is so highly rated. He will get an opportunity soon I'm sure of that very talented with a mature head on his 18 year old shoulders. Four years time he will be there for certain I don't see him as a Rashford type who flatters to deceive and who would have been ignored if he had been playing for Watford! Like to think Rashford and one or two other over hyped players will prove me wrong ....

So here we go again...another pointless foray into the world of international football! Same old same old for me! Struggle through the first round and get knocked out in the next! Did I say same old? Of course it isn't is it, after what seems like seven centuries we have got rid of the serial bottler 'Wayne...The Zimmer-Frame...Rooney!' Who is now plying his trade with the Septic's...which is where he should have been all the time!

Germany play tomorrow, my (German) wife is humming the German National Anthem while doing her ironing and all the neighbours etc are annoyingly confident!

Who is now plying his trade with the Septic's...which is where he should have been all the time! Are you sure you understand football, Reg? Or are you talking about another Rooney, who isn't the record goal scorer for England and Manchester United? Do I understand football...is the Pope a Catholic ~ does a Bear shit in the woods...do I understand football! Well OK, I'm a bit iffy on the off-side rule, and I'm still trying to spot one of the channels that players seem to be running into most of the time, but other than that...NO! My only gripe with Rooney (which of course wasn't his fault) was that even if he had been walking with a Zimmer Frame...he would still have been picked to play! What he should have said was: 'Sorry England manager of this month, I'm playing crap so please don't pick me, and give someone else a chance!' Or is that just me!

Must confess to not having watched one match yet, may be if England get to the quarters. You do like to punish yourself with this football watching lark, chelston. Treat yourself to Tunisia and Panama first, coz if we get to the quarters, we’ll get beat in them, I’d’ve thought. Aren’t Germany or Brazil likely opponents by then? That said - you never know. Osborne’s promotion budget will have kicked in off-field at TQ1 and the feelgoid factor may have returned for all as we contemplate our move into a multi-million pound complex in 2020 as a Football League side once more...

Must confess to being a tad worried on the stadium front, can't seem to see any planning applications, architects drawings, vision statments with plans etc. If someone could send me the link, I'd be grateful....
