They are clear favourites to win the league at 5-1. We are joint fifth to win the league along with Bath and Hampton & Richmond. The other teams above us are Dartford, Chelmsford and Woking and worth keeping an eye on.

So, here we go again...eyes down look in! Across the three forums, there seems to be a bit of optimism about this season. Of course that isn't quite true, for as usual, on The Divine One's site the hatred and abuse for our ex manager and indeed all things TUFC related, goes on unabated! Why indeed shouldn't there be an air of optimism: we seem to be the only professional team ~ on paper [ ] we seem to have signed some fairly decent players. All these 'Great Expectations' come from our benevolent benefactor Clark Osborne of course! Ozzy, is not some Dickensian character rolling around in the marsh mud...he actually dragged us out of the mud! According to some reports, he has chucked in over a million quid this season to hasten our return to the league above...and who knows...even the league above that! Yes, some people have painted him as the 'Anti-Christ' when he is possibly no more than a 'Scallywag!' So I would like three cheers for Clark Osborne: Hip Hip...

I'd be worried if I wasn't feeling even a little excitement on the cusp of a new season, although Plainmoor providing us with two teams to support this season does give the new campaign an unusual feel. Seeing the old place draped in Cornish Tartan tomorrow, and with three sides of the ground closed, will be a strange start to a football season in Torquay.
Let's also remember to thank our friend and ally Pete Masters for the generous offer of providing a free NLS match for TUFC season ticket holders to attend on this opening day.
I'm sure Reg has in mind certain sensible comments made in the media over recent days, made by people not slavishly wedded to a Militant agenda. Reg no doubt has in mind the wise observation of Jim Parker in this weeks Herald Express:
"Let me emphasise that I am not for one minute suggesting that Clarke Osborne doesn't have the best interests of United at heart. To keep the club afloat in the past couple of years has been down to him and he is owed a huge debt of gratitude for that alone"
Jim providing a salutary reminder to every TUST Militant, that they're only able to engage in a ceaseless campaign of criticism of Osborne's Torquay United, because he's provided the cash to allow the football club to remain in existence.
Reg could well also be thinking of the poorly written piece from the Non League paper mentioned elsewhere. How this Robertson fella can claim to have spent and hour with Clarke Osborne, and then puts out an article where he misspells his interviewees name is staggering. But in fairness to Robertson, he does allow the point to be made that Clarke, being a staunch Bristol Rovers fan himself in his youth, helped the financially troubled Rovers get the pay off that they both needed and wanted, enabling them to vacate Eastville and instead find a venue more suited to their straitened financial circumstances.
Furthermore, Robertson doesn't shy away from pouring scorn on a certain Militant myth that we're only too used to being force fed on a daily basis across the Forums: "I don’t think, as some on message boards and social media would have you believe, that this is an attempted land-grab or a conspiracy". Good of you to throw in a modicum of common sense, Gregor, but I can't see it doing anything to prevent the avalanche of Fake News on the same subject continuing to bombard us throughout the coming season, just as it did through the whole of last season. Message boards and social media resemble Militant HQ. Your revealing that their message is actually garbage will change nothing, least of all their fanaticism.
And so we should all join Reg in looking forward to the new season. In recognising the air of optimism, mainly brought about through the new talent recruited by spending Mr.Osborne's money. A promotion chasing season, exciting fixtures at Plainmoor both on Boxing Day and New Years Day, and the plans for our future really beginning to take shape. Let's hope for a thrilling and enjoyable season, while recognising the hard work being done in the background by our Chairman and Owner, with the aim of creating a spanking new stadium to allow us to enjoy many more seasons supporting a sustainable Torquay United long into the future.
Hip hip...

Bookies have Billericay clear favourites with Woking and Dartford most likely challengers.
We are definitely in the "should be in the play-offs" group with Chelmsford and Hemel.
Concord, Welling, St Albans and Bath firmly in the "might make the play-offs" group.
I have always thought it likely we will be in the play-offs - and what I have seen so far very much confirms this.
We do not look good enough to be title winners (would love to be proved wrong), but we look solid enough that we won't balls up finishing in the top seven (hope I haven't tempted fate!).
That seems to make the whole season a bit of a phony war with it all coming down to a few end of season cup ties. The current play-off system benefits those who finish higher up. Second place need to win two home games, sixth or seventh three away games - so it is worth finishing as high as possible.
But last season Dartford had a great season racking up 86 points, missed the automatic place on goal difference but did not go up. Braintree had a far less impressive campaign, scraped into the play-offs with 69 and then "won" their three away ties 0-0 on pens, 1-0 and 1-1 on pens.
I'd rather do a Braintree than a Dartford.

I don't know whether I'm in the majority or minority by detesting the play-offs. Makes a mockery of finishing third, as you illustrate above, and as has happened so many times over the years in all the divisions. I'm well aware they'll not go away, unless they stop generating extra money for the clubs, but that doesn't alter my opinion that your season should be defined by the 46 games against all your peers, not just 3 additional games after what should be the end of the season. I agree with this but accept that the play-offs will remain. However, I detest the EFL version where a team can be 20pts clear of a team and then only have the same chance of promotion. At least the National League version offers reward for finishing higher.

Heard last night that a bloke up the Dumpling has put £60 on Torquay winning the league.
The laughter could be heard as far away as Brixham...
