Smurthwaite may have stood down as chairman, but he remains owner of port vale.

Hopefully our new owners will prove their worth over the summer break and start putting things in place which will produce a successful and viable set up. If not perhaps we should all send Mr Smurthwaite postcards of beautiful Torquay letting him know how welcome he would be if he bought the club. A sort of coup by postcard. Just a thought........

What happens next, is that you announce the glorious news that...... KING KEV'S REIGN CONTINUES !While at the same time reminding everyone that "Kevin is under contract, we have supported him from day one ", as the general Manager emphasised. A timely reminder to TFF members to beware Fake News that might have been spread in order to make you think otherwise. This gladdening news, indicating that King Kev is now more fully integrated into the G.I family than ever, is just what the fans wanted to hear....and now we await word that the Mayor has pulled his finger out, and cleared the way for our magnificent new stadium to get off the drawing board and instead tower over the Torbay skyline, proclaiming the home of a beacon of sporting excellence and ambition to the whole of the South West. Forward we go, working together to implement the carefully thought through 5 year plan.

This is first decision that needs sorting. My gut feeling is he will stay because: 1) He is popular and sacking him would be more bad publicity for GI. 2) He is cheap and whom would you replace him with? - would a decent manager touch this club? 3) Still under contract and there is a cost to terminating his contract. link

That's the Swindon Robins manager with Osborne, AJ. There have been houses but no stadium.
I agree Nico is a cheaper manager than alternatives, rjd. I'm happy to see him given another go. He might get better players in before the freehold decision. Fingers crossed more than one 'keeper is a feature of the 5 year plan.

Rob Stop with the Fake News, Rob . There is a stadium. Isn't it currently lying in sections in a field in Wales or somewhere ?. It just hasn't been brought on site and bolted together yet.

It says Nico has more than 2 years left on his contract, is that right? I assume it's down to when he signed his contract rather than when he took over as Manager?

I assume it's down to when he signed his contract rather than when he took over as Manager? If it is a relatively measure we are stuffed next year! We don't actually know if it would make any difference to the playing budget though. The Herald seem to take it for granted that any windfall or benefit from moving will automatically be reinvested back into the club... I thought Nico only had a year left - 3 years from 2015, unless he had his contract extended?

I believe he was rewarded with a 3 year contract for last seasons great escape, hence he has two years left. Anyway I would expect GI could afford to pay him off, he is only entitled to 6 months severance pay under the terms of the contract. I don't think there are many clubs who would continue to employ a manager who has had two close shaves with relegation which leads me to think GI believe he will failure to produce a competitive side.

Well done KN for showing he has the metal to battle through against the odds (again). However suggest a degree of delusion if anyone really believes GI will support even a reasonable budget next season - expect more of the same (big words, little action). Another relegation battling campaign beckons perhaps?

How the club progresses will depend greatly on the playing budget. There already rumors of players being told they will have to find extra work if they want a contract after meetings with KN.
I would like to believe that it was the more peripheral members of the current squad that KN feels could still do a job here but I fear this could be the trend now to keep costs to the bare minimum. I doubt very much we will see Luke young again in a Torquay Utd shirt unless he is more concerned in being settled here with his family and doesn't want to uproot. Money and lengths of contract are bound to influence his decision if he has any sense and the same goes for a number of others that most of us would consider retaining. I've got feeling we will be rebuilding most of the squad once again and that doesn't bode well unless of course the manager can persuade better players to sign for less money on short contracts. I doubt we will ever really know what restrictions will be applied to the player budget - just more fuel for the anti GI brigade.

Apparently, we had a top table budget last year. Now we apparently have a budget with an outside chance of the play offs which suggests a modest increase. (Maybe £15000?) Now do GI follow this scenario to keep fans on board (while freehold is pursued) or cut to induce a relegation for next year?
Time will tell with the proof being in the pudding.

There is NOT A LOT OF EVIDENCE AVAILABLE that suggests much more than the promises that have been made so far are anything more than BULLSHIT! The ball is in the GI court and of course if the Mayor does not support their curious plan they will be off to wreck the dreams of some other unsuspecting football club! As others have said, time will tell (and that could be a comparitively short time)!
