After yet another nail biting end to the season I am interested to hear what fans think the club should do / will do next. Is there any possibility we can challenge for promotion next season? When do we know which players will be retained? Will Nicho stay or go?

Our form appeared to improve due to the input of Dave Hedges regarding his reports on our opponents. So it might be fair to Nico to give him the chance of working with Hedges over the close season. However if that happened I think Nico should have to prove himself over ten matches. If he fails that test then he should go. On the other hand if we could secure the services of a proven manager at this level before planning for the new season begins then I would say go for it and release Nico. Nothing that has happened this season suggests Nico can take the club forward.

I would have thought that GI being the forward thinking company they are would have planned ahead well.
Briefcase A - We stay in the National League
Briefcase B - We get relegated to the Conference South
Out pops Briefcase A with the budget, retained list, season ticket prices etc.

Big moments for TUFC approaching as the decisions to be made regarding the Retained List, Budget and Manager to take us into the 2017/2018 season. Will CO/GI deliver anything of significance or will we be expected go forward on a diet of slimy platitudes and bullshit?

This is first decision that needs sorting. My gut feeling is he will stay because: 1) He is popular and sacking him would be more bad publicity for GI. 2) He is cheap and whom would you replace him with? - would a decent manager touch this club? 3) Still under contract and there is a cost to terminating his contract.

He might well be here because of cost but will he be running the show rumours abound that his nose was being put out of joint because of interfence

Bad move if Nicholson is replaced. The one manager in recent history who has actually got the majority of the fan base on his side despite two seasons of pretty desperate struggle. We can all take a guess at whats gone on behind the scenes but I would guarantee that its been an exceptionally difficult ride with little support from Osborne and co. Listen to Osborne's interviews - not one word of support or encouragement for the manager and players other than a rather weak generalisation and that it wouldn't be a catastrophe if we went down. Shows how much he understands the mindset of football fans and where his priorities lie. Kevin Nicholson has kept focus when others would have walked and that is the only reason we are still in this league and not the one below. Everyone seems to think a change of manager is the answer to all problems well you only have to look at Leyton Orient's recent history with SIX managers in just over a year. A club with many underlying problems where any manager would struggle and not too dissimilar to us only we kept faith with a man who genuinely cares about the club and its supporters. For me those qualities far outweigh the mercenary qualities of most well traveled and experienced managers. Yes he's made errors but he's learned an awful lot and is bright enough to take on board his mistakes and do everything he can to correct them. I have only once thought that KN should be on his bike and that was after the Sutton game when we lost 2-3 and they had an outfield player in goal that wasn't tested for most of the match. The lowest point for me in a dreadful season. But what happened after? He dug in despite massive criticism and kept focus and eventually found enough to keep us in this division. No for me replacing KN would be throwing the baby out with the bath water and do we really want or need to take a gamble with more upheaval and another new face to build relationships/squads again? More than at any other time this club needs continuity and a plan to move the football club forward and I truly hope KN, the only one within the football club that is genuinely fighting our cause is a part of that

You never know what might happen during the close season, but as things stand I'd expect Kev to be Manager again next season. If he was suspecting that he'd soon have to be applying for other jobs around the country, then Saturday's public declaration of 'I have made a huge amount of mistakes this season', is surely the last thing you'd do ?
At forthcoming interviews you'd be intimating that the fault lay with working conditions, other members of staff, insufficient budget etc, for a disappointing season, whereas a willingness to accept your portion of the blame when there are so many observers who want to hear that every ill should be laid at the feet of the club owners, to me indicates that Kev's priority is eyeing a future for himself at the club next season, rather than aiding the militants agenda.
The further initiatives to be announced this week, underline G.I's desire to work in partnership with the fans, and if we do our part in backing the project, buying the tickets, and help the money flow in, then G.I will be all the more generous as regards topping up with even more funds should a play-off place be looking a distinct possibility next season.
However, if the 'supporters' decide to make life more difficult for everyone, continue being obstructive, and encourage the media to bad mouth the club......then will it be any surprise if, in response, G.I feel far less inclined to reach into their pockets and reward such ingratitude.
As Clarke says: 'The objective next season is the top-half of the table, with a chance to make the play-offs – that's reasonable. Then, if we get to Christmas, say, and we're in a position to top the budget up – fine, we will look at that too'.
It looks like a two way street to me, with the supporters having to do their part, and 'support' in the way they've been so willing to do over the final games of this season just ended. But what won't work is if we keep giving the militants free rein to cause havoc, and make everything twice as difficult, while simultaneously demanding G.I shove a load more money in to finance a promotion push !. I think we'd learn life doesn't work like that, and so some of the daft antics need to be put to bed before next season, if we really do want to be nearer the top of the table rather than the bottom at this time next year.

The onus is now on GI to fulfil promises and deliver something more substantive than has been the case so far (not on the supporters to just passively submit to the never ending trail of platitudes).

Indeed. Good words as ever by Osborne. As has been mentioned elsewhere, I like that it is perceived things will be busy over the next few weeks. That is how it needs to be. I am surprised there has been nothing about season tickets yet. Most clubs have had an early bird offer out for nearly a month. As we have in previous years.

A much needed statement of intent though actions will speak louder than words - we will have to wait and see. GI and Clarke Osbourne will be under an immense amount of scrutiny over the coming weeks and months. Last seasons season ticket offer fiasco was a contributor to our financial plight, to what degree I'm uncertain. At the time of the offer I thought it was generous but somewhat foolish. Reckon there will be a lot more thought going into season ticket pricing this time around and doubt we will see the discount we saw last season ever again.

As this is GI's first close season in charge of the club, it will be interesting to see how they go about things. Torquay are traditionally slow in acting and often miss out on the best player bargains available. I like to think that GI will act in a more decisive manner and in a more business like way. I expect Nicholson will stay for starters and hopefully our best players from this season will follow suit.
As regards the freehold I expect that issue will rumble on and on in the background for ages with no firm decisions made. Is there any deadline regarding the freehold or could it go on for months / years?
By the way, nice to bump into Jon today at Cockington.

I agree with rjd, that with the freehold decision being due in July, we may hear of many positives between now and then. I hope so and that also they are combined with positive 'deeds' to excuse a pun. This could go in any number of threads, but Norman Smurthwaite has stepped down as Port Vale chairman. www.port-vale.co.uk/news/article/2016-17/chairmans-statement-3701389.aspx
