Verma on board now as well - good player. Was impressed the few times I saw him last season. A committed guy.

Great signing. Hopefully more good news around the corner. Moore and Blissett to follow? Great news regarding Angus. The types of performance throughout the season that he produced when under the threat of suspension toward the end of this one would be of real benefit. Those two you mention are the ones I'd really like to now see be tempted to sign up for what could be a decent squad. Especially with them, Angus and Youngy forming the spine of the first team. Am still thinking Damon Lathrope might be tempted away from Aldershot's 'non deal' by former teammate, Nico. Lathrope on his way back. Brilliant news. www.torquayunited.com/news/article/lathrope-returns-3134470.aspx

Team starting to take shape, hopefully income can keep coming in to maintain the reasonably quality players that have signed so far.

It's good that many of last season's squad have accepted the club's contract offers, but for me very surprising that three of them are still holding back. During the final 17 matches last season, we saw team spirit at its very best: passion, enthusiasm, togetherness and celebrations by all of the outfield players when goals were scored. Things seem very different for some of them now. Ajala has already turned his back on the club, and Butler, Harrad and Richards are obviously digging in their heels until the last possible minute.
What on earth do these players want ? To remain committed to a happy and progressive club which has every chance of significant progress and success next season, or bugger off to some other outpost where they will start as new boys and strangers, just for the sake of a few extra quid in their pockets ?
The mentality of footballers in the modern era never ceases to amaze me, especially at the level at which our own club currently finds itself.

I think it is very clear that everybody who has signed really wants to play for the club and manager for the reasons you have outlined above. However, our budget only has been marginally increased from what was a relegation budget last year and it is likely that some of the offers on the table are going to be relatively paltry. Personally I wouldn't blame anyone for looking elsewhere as it may be due to circumstances that are less greed motivated and more out of necessity....

I read that Joe Oastler was asked to prove his fitness alongside Damon by the Shots too.

Great to see Nico voting 'Brett's It' when deciding what was best for Torquay so close to the Referendum. Shaun Harrad is well respected, a good pro, and has benefited a number of the younger players in passing on his knowledge and know-how. But we couldn't expect him to play 90 minutes week in week out, and although I'm hopeful that there will still be a place for Harrad within the squad, the signing of Brett Williams should hopefully strengthen our attacking options considerably.
Let's hope the new lad can dovetail with Blissett and between them score the goals that will make those season tickets seem even better value.

So, if Nico is a man of his word (if not, he can always become a politician) that is the end for the players for whom he set a deadline! It's a shame about Moore. Of course he is now getting offers from American teams (see what happens when you play for TUFC) which if he's home sick is the way to go. That won't put his face in the minds of managers in the higher English leagues, but good luck to him anyway, because he might just have been the difference between national league south (I would have liked being there for a while ) and having a tilt at promotion back to the real league this season.

So now we are:-
Keeper - ? Defence - Gerring, MacDonald, Berry (until fit - Verna cover?) Nico Midfield - Young, Chaney, Hancox, Verma, Lathrope. Strikers - Blissett, Williams
Retained awaiting contract offer response - Butler, Richards, Harrad. (Nico seems hopeful of signing Harrad)
Actually, there is a very good side in there.....

I don't think it's necessarily a case of having to sign by the deadline, more that the players had until then before Nicho started offering deals to alternatives. So they could still be at Plainmoor next season if they can agree a deal before Nicho finds a replacement.

I can remember us offering contracts to other players that were given dead line after dead line and still didn't sign for us in the end. Howe being one of them. Williams is not a replacement for any of those offered new contracts, because he came down to look at the club a while ago. Sounds like a good addition to boot!

Come off it; Like you wouldn't change jobs if you were offered a higher wage? Football is a short career and at this level not particularly well paid. You can't compare players trying to make a living at this level with premiership players (which is what you meant by "footballers in the modern era").

Another cracking signing. Will be keen to get back to the kind of form he showed at Aldershot that got him a League 1 move not so long ago.
