I'm sure there'll be a tear in my eye when I see St.Piran's cross proudly fluttering over Plainmoor next season.
For football loving Cornish Association members in the Bay, yesterday's news was like an early Christmas present. This evening I'm hoping to jointly celebrate the groundshare announcement and an F.A Trophy win (hopefully) with a proper cream tea that sees the jam applied first !
This season's problems had caused me some unpleasant thoughts. Pleased as I am to see Nico in charge, I can't help reflecting that the Board sacked Hargreaves as soon as they came in the door, diverted funds to a 'Director Of Football' and 'unanimously' approved the appointment of Paul Cox as Manager. That's why I still can't bring myself to trust them to let Nico get on with the job. Almost from the word go it's reminded me of Exeter City's appointment of Gerry Francis as Player Manager back in the 1980's. A talented boss with some great ideas who needed the Board's backing, while all the while you felt they were never sure of their appointment and were unlikely to stick by him and gain the benefits.
Should Nico be treated in a similarly shabby way, I know what my form of protest would have to be, although I would have missed no longer attending Plainmoor.
This groundshare arrangement is ideal. My protest against the Board, should they ever turn on Legendary Nico, can still go ahead, but I'll be able to attend Plainmoor and watch football.

Sold our soul to the devil, highly embarrassing but also sad, particularly the fans, who have had to stomach some rubbish on and off the pitch in recent years.well just to rub salt in the wounds I am pretty sure they will be above us soon anyway.maybe we can ground share with buckland athletic next season be plenty of room there for the tiny crowds we will be getting anyway

If this is true (and not an early April Fool's joke) then it is a mind numingly stupid move - surely there are grounds closer to Truro and their supporters so as to avoid demeaning TUFC - how will the club accommodate the likely numerous fixtures that will be cancelled due poor weather etc. let alone nurture our somewhat dodgy pitch so as to fulfill twice as many games as normal? We are descending into farce.

One positive we might see a team that can win at home that will be a novelty

So when we are relegated, we will be playing an away fixture at our own ground (Assuming Truro don't get promoted).

I don't think we will be a club anymore hector we aren't now so god knows next season, extracts the urine when a pissy. Arsed Cornish club ground share with us so we can make ends meet. This is truly a bad dream? The previous crew running the show really sucked up and destroyed us then dropped the baby as quick as hell.Thats not the present boards fault but kn129 is.in someways it is better too shut up shop now and move on cos it's only going too get worse

If they are going to pay the club rent then its a welcome source of revenue. If we will be relying on gate receipts it makes no sense.
However after Peter Masters turned out to be an asset stripper when he was interested in the club I can't understand why the board would want to do business with him.

Won't be long until Truro will be the bigger team. Nothing official from the club on the matter, pretty poor

Personally speaking, the only issue I have is will the pitch stand up to it? I have no other issue with the concept of groundsharing, which may well provide extra income.

I would like to know what Aussie thinks of this as he is one of the team that work on the pitch. Would the Plainmoor pitch be capable of hosting a couple of games a week in its current state ?

I'd agree with gullone, and once Aussie gets his nose out of that Cornish phrase book, it will be interesting to hear his opinion. When we got relegated from the Football League last time, the pitch was in an atrocious state by the last couple of months of the season.
To the untrained eye it does look as though it's currently in much better shape, although we've probably not churned it up by playing too many games on it in very bad weather so far.

If the drainage is fixed properly and covers purchased then it wouldn't be a problem but then you need to take some of the rent revenue from Truro to do this, it's doable but I think it's sort of a self defeating proposal! It all depends on how much rent comes in against how much it costs to achieve, does this allow enough left over for it to be worthwhile!

Aussie
Aussie hits the nail firmly on the head, and I wonder whether anyone was listening more carefully to Steve, oops I mean Stephen, Breed's words during his half time interview on the radio last night than I was ? Stephen seemed to tell us that effective drainage work will be undertaken, and that it guarantees us a well drained pitch for the next 19 or 20 years.
Now if letting Truro share our ground for what might not even be a whole season (it depends on the speed of progress with the construction of their new stadium), yet we gain enough cash from the deal to 'fix' our pitch for at least 20 years, it would appear to be worth putting up with the inconveniences of taking in lodgers for a season.
I don't suppose we know what percentage of the cost of the drainage work is covered by the money from Truro, but it's clearly enough to allow this much needed work to go ahead. Fingers crossed that everyone is a winner from the deal, even Aussie's much appreciated work will hopefully be made a little easier.
